Thanks for the irrigation lesson, this is my first year using drip. A irrigation professional suggested a 1/2 gallon emitter at the end of my drip line in my veg containers, closes the tube with water at the end :)

Thank you for sharing how you set up irrigation. It's my weak spot in the garden. My fingers get so sore and take weeks to heal when I've tried putting in spaghetti line before. I don't have the fancy tools though. I like how you spare your fingers some by just folding over the end of a line with electrical tape. Inserting the little fittings gets old fast. I'll have to see how I can apply some of your techniques. Thanks for info.

I'm curious as to why you have chosen perlite and vermiculite as additional aeration amendments? I'm trying to decide if both are possible. I'm a worm Farmer and composter and have noticed that perlite isn't a problem for the worms to move around, but the VERM tends to get mold problems. Just wondering.

Is there any reason to not just use a T barb to join a 1/4” tube into 1 loop? Then just connect that to the 1/2”. No need for electrical tape that way. That was my plan… unless there’s a good reason not to!

Best way to know how much to water is to dig down 1-2inch and see how moist things are. Depends on soil structure and your soil mix like perlite or vermiculite %. Around 30min every 2 days I'd say.

Where do you source soil for so many large bags? Do you just amend after each harvest? I’m looking for inexpensive means to garden that is handicap friendly. Any suggestions?
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 5 жыл бұрын
A local soil maker. $40/cubic yard when blended with perlite. I will add fresh compost after each harvest from these bags. For handicapped people I've seen double raised beds built so they can be accessed and worked on via wheel chair. But that is not that cheap. You could do grow bag like these or plastic pots/trays on a metal rack or shelf so no bending over is required.

I have the bubblers and they water too fast to where the water comes out the bottom in under 5minutes. Even if not watered for days. Seems watering slowly is the key to fabric pots.

Hi, I wanted to see how you manage watering different crops with diffrent water needs. like carrot and lettuce? Do you you plant them in different plots in order to water them seperately or you have another method?
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 5 жыл бұрын
For the most part I plant or seed crops in separate beds and water them when they need water. Each bed has it's own valve control. I use drip irrigation and some overhead watering as well. Here are my videos on irrigation kzfaq.info/sun/PLG9acmbzWMphDPFZt4W25COaa34yw-7OB

@gogogardener 5 жыл бұрын
@@NaturesAlwaysRight Interesting... you can grow greens and lettuce using 50% shade cloth. I'll have to try that here. Gets well over a 100 degrees in Summer. May I ask what varieties of lettuce you find tolerate the heat better? I won't get upset if it fails here... but an educated guess is always useful. I found that brassicas do decent if I use micorrizae when I plant them early in the year. They get good deep roots that way and hang in there despite the heat. Have you considered making an e-book with these kinds of hints. I'd be interested.

how long do these bags last? 3,4,5 years of use? Can they be left outside year-round or is the intent that they're brought inside/not used for part of the year? I like the idea but if I have to replace them after a couple seasons it seems more expensive than alternatives.
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say 3-5 years for sure. I haven't used them long enough to know for sure and haven't heard from anyone else on the longest time they last. The handles will break first. They can be year round.

My drip irrigation system is set up so that each 10 gallon grow bags gets a spaghetti tube from the main 1” tube, and each bag gets 3 emitters total (two in-line 1” heads and one end-of-line 1” head). The grow bags are on timer for 15 minutes twice a week. I notice after a watering, only the soil mix directly under the connectors are wet while the rest of the soil mix is bone dry. Is that okay or am I doing something wrong? Also do you recommend using the big saucers under the grow bags? We are in central coast California where it almost never rains.
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 2 жыл бұрын
The water either is dripping to fast for the soil to absorb or your soil mix doesn't have enough moisture absorbing material like peat or vermiculite. Or could be a combo of both. Sometimes it helps to soak soil by hand at first then switch to 100% drip from then on, helps with osmosis.

U look and sound like Casey Affleck! Thanks for the video. Putting goof plugs in the end of the 1/4 would be easier no? I'm using the 360 emitters in my 7 gal bags and it's way too much water. Flushes the bag in about 15 seconds. Don't think u would have enough pressure with that many bags. Why not put all bags in rows and just run 1/2 emitter line (or punch in emitters) straight across the tops?
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 3 жыл бұрын
You can use goof plugs but why waste the money. Punching half inch will spray water everywhere not where I want it.

@@NaturesAlwaysRight gotcha. I thought maybe punching drip emitters in the 1/2 mainline, but then you would only get 2 emitters in each plant. Not enough i guess
