Iraqis tended to be more honest, whether they were for us or against us. Afghans were famous for switching sides before we invaded, but it’s shocking to see how duplicitous they can be in person. They’re the most socially agile people I’ve ever met. And I had plenty of Afghans offer me info or even to work for us. We just couldn’t trust any of it.
