I usually agree with Jxmy but the Nets really had no choice but to trade KD. they weren't winning a ring with that squad, only other option was to keep him unhappy on a team for no reason in return they got 4 solid players with great vibes, all with ECF/finals experience + a ton of picks they can use to trade this summer. they didn't "win" the trade by any means, but not as bad as you'd think

As a lifelong Suns fan that's, 50ish years without a title. There is no way in hell you pass on the option of getting KD, especially when he asked to come to Phoenix. We lost 2 fan favorites and some of the hardest working youngsters in the league in the trade which does hurt, but its Kevin "FREAKIN" Durant!

Most NBA teams when they say they are going into a rebuild, they don’t explicitly say they’re going to tank (intentionally lose games) but the less games they win the better the draft picks the get. Tanking has been a real issue in the NBA and in most American sports

For you guys in Europe, the Nets are exactly like PSG, an ultra rich billionaire owner who came in, bent half the rules and paid an unbelievable amount to acquire 3 of the greatest players in the game and built literally an offensive superteam that ultimately failed to live up to the hype because all that money and talent still lost/loses to a well built, balanced team. PSG it's Mbappe, Neymar, Messi while the Nets it *was* Kyrie, KD, Harden.

Minnesota got fleeced in the Gobert trade because that’s what Danny Ainge does. That’s why he wasn’t effective in Boston anymore… he’d done it too many times and no one wanted to trade with him anymore… btw his nickname in Boston is “ Trader Danny” so we get it

One of the few times I disagree with JHR on NBA takes. Those picks are needed for successful rebuilds, meaning you can’t flush your team out and actually build a quality roster without those draft picks (rather selecting players yourself or trading them to another team for a star that fits your system). The players that were traded in exchange of the superstar players are meant to bridge the gap for the years the rebuild is needed and balance the budget for both teams (keep in mind that there is a salary cap and salary floor in pro leagues in North America). A prime example of this is the OKC Thunder and Philly 76ers. If done right, you’ll be right back into contention for a ring in 2-4 years, every year moving forward.

Wolves fan here, I was excited when we got Gobert. 2 of the best centers in the game on one team, and the minute Towns got hurt it all went downhill. The thing is trading first round picks in the NBA means next to nothing if you're in the playoffs, the only picks worth anything are from trash teams in the lottery

It was already downgilll before towns went down. That lineup was terrible because towns is a terrible defender and gobert is terribly offensive player. Plus gobert clogged the lanes for edwards who started the season bad bd ski also started the season bad.

There are only 5 men on the court, and 15 total on a team, so teams literally need on of the top 15 greatest players of all time to be able to win a championship in the NBA. The small amount of players on a team reduces the value of average players and increases the value of great players. An incredible player can't completely carry a football team, American or otherwise, but an incredible player can carry a basketball team
@matthewr7593

The video is kinda right and wrong. He’s right that you often don’t get a KD in a draft, but the nets didn’t lose here. Everyone there was disgruntled and in the same way the suns gave up a ton of draft picks for KD, then nets can do the same in the future or draft a ton of young talent and hope to get enough strong players to flip. And even though future draft picks like ‘27 and ‘29 are super in the future it comes quicker than you think. Next year the ‘27 pick will only be three years away and the further into the future the picks the more uncertainty about where they’ll end up in a good way. If KD and CP3 retire by then which could happen with age and injury, and the Suns become terrible, that 27 and 29 draft picks will be amazing. But he is right that many of these kinds of trades don’t pay off, I just think the Nets really did a good job because they demanded the farm for each player.

@ItsDefOver9000 Жыл бұрын
There is no way to interpet the loss of KD, Kyrie, & Harden w/ absolutely nothing to show for it as anything but a monumental failure. I literally cannot fathom a bigger franchise disappointment when you consider the championship expectations. They had two generational scorers (one a borderline top 10 player ever) alongside arguably the most skilled guard ever & the best they managed to accomplish was the 2nd rd of the playoffs (flaming out in the 1st rd twice).
@matthewr7593
@matthewr7593 Жыл бұрын
@@ItsDefOver9000 maybe I wasn’t clear in what I meant. You’re right in that it’s an absolute failure, I’m saying that assuming you needed to trade them, or they’d leave in free agency or be super disgruntled and ruined everything, the trades were a success. It’s the silver lining that although it’s a disaster, they have a brighter outlook for the future than they probably should have. The video was basically saying that they didn’t get shit for KD, as in “how could that be all you get for him.” And what I’m saying is that since they clearly had to trade them, it’s hard to expect more.
