One of the best guitar players to ever walk the planet : Neal Schon... and the band was just never the same after Steve Perry was gone; his voice was just the perfect match for the bands sound. It was a moment in history when they were together.

Stop the press. This is the first piece on Neal Schon that pays him the tribute he deserves. He is the benchmark of all music melodic, tone, passion, love, heart with a blazing fire to go with it. Who has that? Not many. He can melt your heart and rip your hair out at the same time. I fucking love that. He can make your spirit soar like no one else. Kudos to the Professor for seeing him and Perry in the light they deserve.

Great video! I wish that Journey hadn’t endured the interpersonal difficulties along the way because Neal and Steve together were nothing short of magical. But glad to have what we do from this amazing band. Steve Perry’s vocals are perfection and I am sure he can still sing amazingly well!

There are no words to describe how amazing this band was/is. Every single player is amazing, virtuoso's all of them. When I was younger it wasn't cool to admit you liked Journey (in the early 80's), but now I freely admit they were a one in a billion kind of band. Timeless songs, unreal musicianship, and really, just... no more words. Many congratulations for this, WELL deserved induction!

I fell in love with Sam Cooke the first time I listened to "Bring It on Home to Me", and I already loved Journey because "Don't Stop" was my childhood. When I learned, years later, that Steve Perry had modeled his voice off of Sam Cooke's, everything made sense. I cannot listen to either artist without being emotionally moved.

Journey's popularity is more enduring and widespread than most people imagine. And yes, I don't think it's too much of an aberration or exaggeration to say that everyone loves Journey in America. If you really look at the band's most productive years, it's just about 5 to 6 years with Steve Perry. Can you imagine what kind of unbelievable force in rock had they stayed together another 5 to 6 years with just a few more albums without any stoppage involving their personal affairs? I bet the band would be bigger than any, probably belonging to the rarefied league of the juggernauts today, like The Stones or Zeppelin.

This is so true. He is not only an amazing guitarist and song writer but he has what I call the golden touch. Similar to singers they say that have the golden voice ! Well the ability to translate emotions into vibrational positive energy is in his hands. A gift that I can hear a mile away and a gift that makes me and billions of others happier people. Thank you for doing this video because it is right on the money !

Neal Shon is the genuine article, a pro of rock and roll life thru&thru. Tested & proven by time. Steve Perry admits he was inspired by Neal's guitar playing, altho, he's more inclined to ballads, while N.Shon is a real rocker soul. These are two great music men but Perry's personal issues got in the way of Journey as a band and as proven by time, he couldn't cope with the demands of a famous rocker's life. Knowing their history and looking at this picture, Neal's expression conveys he is glad but not so forgetful of the havoc Perry inflicted upon the band's life, almost derailed his (Shon's/Journey's) career if not for Shon's spirit of tenacity. Perry on the other hand is his usual sweetness, a softsoul artist who is more inclined to retreat within himself, as I guess he must as part of his personal integrity. Perhaps, being Perry an only child served up to keep him from being a lot more insightful as to how his decisions could affect the lives of the other band members. Case in point, being too passionate about his creativity during his time with Journey consumed him to the point of getting his band mates, R.Valory & S.Smith, fired for the reason that he was trying to capture a new sound and that these two guys were not a good fit for it. I'm glad Perry later on admits he realized it was a mistake. I love Journey's music and I appreciate ALL of the members past&present because people across the globe are still enjoying their music.

Grace Antonio Steve inflicted? No sir they kicked him out because they couldn’t wait for the resolution of hip surgery. It was their stupid mistake. They were lucky to find the impersonator in Arnel. I say that because have you heard his own album? Ugh. The band is only together because Arnel can impersonate Steve. THE VOICE. Without that “sound “ they were headed to rock oblivion. Don’t rat on Steve. The artist and the voice.

I have to chime in. I agree with your comparisons of Steve with Sam, Rodger, Freddy, and Robert. But, I have always maintained that the 2 most POWERFUL voices in R&R are Steve Perry and, ready for the old school? ........ GARY PUCKETT!!! These guy's voices could knock down stone walls .... with deliberation. Lets see how many agrees I get for Gary Puckett. Neil Schone ....? Remarkable career. An example to be followed by all up and coming rock guitarist. Thank you for this video clip. Give a thumbs up if you agree with the GARY PUCKETT comparison.

I know it's not about money with them but i would pay a small fortune for seats if they all ever played together live again 🎉🎉🎉😊😊 with Gregg Rolie also hopefully. He might be inclined to since he did a few years ago. Look for videos of Gregg Rolie with Neil Schon's Journey Through Time with Deen Castronovo sharing incredible lead vocals, while drumming, with Rolie from about 5 years ago. It's unbelievebly magically AWESOME!!🙏🙂💚🧡🤟

I have a very true story for you. I was working as a very young union steward for the stagehands union in wheeling West Virginia in a the largest theatre in West Virginia some time in the late 70's an Journey was booked there. It was a great day and every thing went perfect. At the end of the show Neil and Steve left abruptly. they didn't ride in the bus. the flew in to Pittsburgh airport and drove them selves to the venue in a rental car. there is an alley that goes to the backstage door of this theatre. It's a private alley. they parked literally 20 feet from the stage door by a stair way that goes goes down about 6 steps to a fire exit of the theatre. When they were pulling out Neil was driving. He cut the wheels hard to pull away from the curb and ran the driver side wheel of the car over the curb and bottomed the car out of the frame. lol. I actually had seen this happen. We had already started load out. They were stuck on the fire escape curb. So I went into the theatre and grabbed about 10 large stagehands and we went out and lifted the car up and put it back on the asphalt. We did look under it to make sure there was no obvious front end damage underneath and advised them that if the steering didn't feel right to pull over and wait for help. This was before the cell phone. They made it back to the airport which wasn't that far away. about 55 minutes. They were so happy. they didn't want to ride in the bus with the band.

Wow ! Great Interview Clip thanks a lot for getting it along to the community it's very much appreciated. Can you please tell me whats the track called playing in the background at 07:31min. ? To be fair here, i think both sides Steve Perry and Neal Schon can thank each other for achieving such success with Journey. They fitted like a perfect pair of new shoes or just call it dream team. Neal Schon is a gifted Guitar Hero playing at the age of 15 years whit Carlos Santana that says it all. Listen to Neal Schon Instrumenal on the Santana album called "Caravanserai" the track is called: "Song of the Wind" Carlos and Neal trade licks on this masterpiece. At the same time Neal Schon is one of the most underrated Guitar Heroes of our time.

First, Carlos was wrong, Steve did not leave, he was fired. Second, I have not and will not ever listen to them again. Besides, I have a strong feeling that they are on their last leg. Schon and Cain are supposedly not getting along now. I think it's only a matter of time.
