Gentleman Quiz: gentl.mn/quiz-gentleman-type1
00:00 Neopolitan Style Introduction
In menswear today, Neapolitan style is famed for its effortless sprezzatura and handwork, lightweight, airy fabrics, and casualness. At places like Pitti Uomo, it’s closely associated with dandies and flamboyant gentlemen. Typically, it features bold statements and colors; and it’s just the reminiscence of fun and Southern Italy.
02:13 Why Does Neoolitan Style Matter?
It has gotten quite famous. It is cited many times in brochures, online, when people talk about things, and so, as someone interested in classic menswear, it’s really important to understand.
03:55 The History of Neopolitan Style
In 1861, Naples joined the Kingdom of Italy, which, of course, today is a republic. While the area around Naples used to be well-known for its agricultural impact, it also developed to be a hub for clothing.
The late-19th and early-20th centuries, Naples was known to produce high-quality garments. The clothes produced followed styles of other nations; had influences from Vienna, from England, and from France.
07:30 General Hallmarks of Neopolitan Style
Typically, Neapolitan style means bolder colors. The fabrics are certainly open weave. So, while a British blazer is maybe made of a surge fabric, the traditional Neapolitan will be made of a hopsack.
Neapolitan tailoring is not about accuracy - it’s more about comfort, it’s about the visible handwork, and something that is stylistically and aesthetically pleasing.
12:38 Neopolitan Clothing: Jackets
16:54 Outerwear
17:30 Trousers
19:05 Shirts
20:11 Shoes
21:24 Accessories
So, in conclusion, I hope we have shown that we’re not o’ guappo ‘e cartone - meaning “a braggart made of cardboard” - when it comes to Neapolitan style.

And, of course, it's visually pleasing and inspiring to see all these well-dressed men and how they express themselves through style.

why does neapolitan mens style matter? The Neapolitan men's style matters for several reasons. Firstly, it represents a rich cultural heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. The style is deeply rooted in the history and traditions of Naples, and it reflects the city's unique blend of sophistication and understated elegance. Secondly, Neapolitan men's style is highly respected and admired in the fashion industry for its quality and craftsmanship. The tailors and artisans of Naples are renowned for their attention to detail and their ability to create bespoke garments that fit perfectly and last a lifetime. Finally, Neapolitan men's style matters because it embodies a sense of individuality and self-expression. The style is not about following trends or conforming to a certain look, but rather about expressing one's own personal style in a way that is elegant, refined, and authentic. Overall, Neapolitan men's style matters because it represents a unique blend of tradition, quality, and individuality that is highly valued in the world of fashion and beyond.

An excellent presentation. The is my first view of a full length video of yours. Well done. This will supplement my views of the Gentleman’s Gazette channel. As an aside I own a bespoke suit. Being obese I thought of it as a necessity back then. The facility was in downtown Chicago. It’s a marino wool and llama blended shell. A year round weight of course. It is the most common outfit I have. 45 places to measure me on order to got the proper look. They guaranteed no to me free alterations should I lose it 20 lbs or gain 20 pounds. Well now I list 80 pounds. Wow, right?

As a Brit, here is my take on youth British style (London mainly, 16-mid 20s): sports wear, usually black or grey, scruffy, slobbish, stolen or knocked off North Face/Moncler/Canada Goose jackets, or a Nike jacket, Nike trainers (not that there is anything wrong with having comfortable footwear such as Nike). Older guys are better: jeans with a shirt and jumper, or chinos with shirts and a jumper. I think it is British youth who are letting our nation down (and in sooooo many ways!). However, on the whole there is still a level of British elegance (think Royal men), although we are some way from Italian men.

Almost everyone in England is dressed shabby these days. When you actually see someone who has made an effort they stand out. I am making more of an effort lately, you get all sorts of comments like have you been to court or a wedding or a job interview or are you now a lawyer? But these comments come from people who have had the same shabby style for well over 20 years, they do not have the nutts to try something different or they just think wearing wornout dirty nikes busted jeans & a hoody 24/7 is fine?

Imagine the scene, in Glasgow, an Asian sub-continent owner of an Italian suit shop who obviously favoured the Roma style and in I walk wearing a Neapolitan sprezzatura (it was hot, even in Glasgow - the icicles was melting), the discussion went downhill fairly quickly. Insults were swiftly exchanged with reference to me being dressed like a clown (Punchinello) and him being dressed as a gangster (Don Corleone). Needless to say I did not buy anything .... but it was an amusing half hour.

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of the (modern version) Neopolitan style... I DO like the "Devil may care" aspect of style, ala Gary Cooper... But this particular Italian style falls just short of sloppy to me. The lines of the clothing are too "soft" for my taste and I'd never be caught dead without wearing socks, so to me, wearing those "footie things" is only inches away from going sockless. Of course, to each their own. Cheers, Gents

ChatGPT response to "What is neapolitan mens style" Neapolitan men's style refers to the traditional way of dressing among men in Naples, a city in southern Italy. The style is characterized by its relaxed and unstructured approach to tailoring, with a focus on comfort and natural materials. Some key elements of Neapolitan men's style include: Soft, unstructured jackets: The jackets are typically made from lightweight fabrics and feature minimal padding, resulting in a more relaxed and comfortable fit. High armholes: The armholes on Neapolitan jackets are typically cut higher than on traditional suits, allowing for greater range of motion and a more natural look. Wide lapels: Neapolitan jackets often feature wide lapels, which help to balance out the relaxed silhouette of the jacket. Tapered trousers: Neapolitan trousers are typically tapered and feature a high waist, creating a streamlined silhouette that complements the jacket. Bold colors and patterns: Neapolitan men's style often incorporates bold colors and patterns, including checks, stripes, and florals. Handcrafted details: Neapolitan tailoring places a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and attention to detail, with many garments featuring hand-stitched buttonholes and other fine finishing touches. Overall, Neapolitan men's style is characterized by its relaxed, comfortable approach to tailoring, its emphasis on natural materials and handcrafted details, and its use of bold colors and patterns.

As you said - in Naples rarely you see those great looking guys. And to be honest the city is dirty, crowded and full of dogs s*it.

I stopped watching when you mentioned climate change and “many areas getting hotter”. Please leave the left wing political bunkum out.

With all due respect for Italians, but most Italian trends are too flashy and only good for Italy (not even for Greece.) With very few exceptions, those trends look a bit tacky out of there and only good for reinforcing stereotypes.

Yeah it's better to dress like you're going to your own funeral. The sky is gray, the buildings are grey, the pavement is gray, your jacket is grey. Beautiful northern life.

@@dadadadada17 You said it. Nothing more questionable than looking like a colourful Italian vegetable garden.

@@P.Paramo need to cheer up a bit. with all the bad stuff in the world going on , the least of our worries should be colourful joyful clothing ! I feel like just showing up to your place full on decked out in a Neapolitan suit by ISAIA or KITON and a Hawaiian JAMS WORLD shirt , complete with a freshly bought flower necklace and flower hat on top - just to troll you and make you laugh 😂😂😂 🦚🌺🌼🌻🌷🍀🍇🍉🍋🥭🍎🍒🥝 😂😂😂
