Just so you know, the gaskets being PCB mounted means you can go plateless! Hearing Keybored's plateless build, it sounds really isolated and is basically the sound of the switch and keycap instead of the board. Of course there's the problem about too much flex, but it should be solved with case foam

I built my qk65 2 days ago and its exactly how i wanted it. I had aluminium plate, poron and plate foam with ktt haluhalos. And i really dont think it needs pe foam as there is no hollowness. It also came with a set of owl lab stabs. My total build with shipping was 216£

@@IronCan88 It used to be named Iris, but was changed: "Because the DBA Keebio holds the trademark of IRIS, we don't want to risk infringement and respect the property rights of others. This way, we can keep the logo, and no change is needed." - MyKeyClub reddit It's actually very nice that they considered and respected this, since I think many other designers with a completed board design would rather choose to ignore it if they found out too late.

I have a group buy spot at ashkeebs that I'm willing to give up. It has a black top, gold bottom, and a polycarb plate. I'd imagine it'll arrive hopefully sometime in November. It costs 260 CAD or 200 USD.

I have been following the updates on this board for while since I missed out on the QK65 groupbuy. At first, I seriously doubted it would be able to get close to QK65 level, but after seeing reviews of it, I am happy that I'm wrong. Also nice review as always!

i think a big problem with the qk65, as much as i love the board, is the exclusion of a daughterboard. the jris is really a insane value for what it is

would be interesting to hear a foamless sound test, budget boards rely way too much on foam fixing their shortcomings when it comes to sound signature and case ping

and? like why does it matter if it uses foam its not like you can see it or affects it negatively. Elitists ong. Also keybored has a video with alot of configs. But this keyboard still sounds decent imo without foam

@@anuraggandi4311 three reasons 1) foamed boards (especially with pcb foam) typically have a distinct sound profile. if that sound is what you're going for, go for it. but theres plenty who don't want that 2) its indicative of poor effort from the designer if you can only get a 'good' sound by suffocating your board with foam and 3) foam (like case or plate foam) takes a way a lot of flex from a keyboard which affects the typing experience

@@ardent8403 In the case of this board #3 doesnt really apply because this board is really flexible and you can run it plateless but the qk65 does suffer from this if you like to fully foam it up. #1 is a fair point, but if you don't like it don't buy it. It irks me a lot that people are so elitist about something thats preference. #2 idk if theres alot of design choices you can make while still keeping the cost down imo. Also alot more expensive keyboards use foam or need force breaks.

@@anuraggandi4311 definitely agree there is a lot of elitism but it mostly stems from the fact that foams were mods initially done to lower end keyboards to make them sound "better" whereas higher end boards didnt need it. but to each their own ofc. OP probably just doesnt like the sound of a foamed board

On the other hand, i feel the Jris65 is juuuust a tiny bit to expansive, if u think about what modfs and other stuff might go in there ;)

it's not, and QK shipping to the EU (at least) was tax free, for the Iris it's not. and the cheapest option for the Iris is out of the picture as it has no weight

Another good point to mention in the qk65 comparison is the case angle. Qk65 is a bit high for me, but jris is manageable.

I will only comment this, while priced similarly here is where they differ: Jris65 w/ Alu Weight = $155 QK65 w/ Steel Weight = $150.... but you also get FREE Owl Stabs which are an $18 purchase if you were to purchase them separate. The stock/minimum Jris65 configuration is just not worth it IMO and you are better off getting the PVD weight version. So for stock vs stock, the QK65 still wins, hands down.

@@johnyjoe2k the sound is better, more customizability, its flexier, and it looks better (IMO) so i think the jris for a bit more wins. the place where the daughterboard is centered doesn't really matter, and i don't think that was the point of his comment. a daughterboard allows for more flex, less stress on the PCB, etc

@@jadenngl Nah bro, you're dumb. Sound is subjective and can vary wildly based on switches, plate materials, mounting style, foams, and other things. You cannot just say the Jris sounds better when we've only heard a small selection from it, and also that is just your opinion! Objectively, as it stands right now, from my original comment, the QK65 is still a much better deal when comparing base to base configuration.

In this context, QK65 has a heavy reliance on the foams to at least make it sound “livelier” if that makes sense. JRIS65 (based on what I can gather from other content creators, TofuTypes and Alexotos to name a few) has a better sound signature without too much reliance on foams. *nothing wrong with using PE foam but it takes out the characteristics of the board along with the switches for that marbly sound
