Great looking machine! How soon can we expect the review? :D

Within the next 2 weeks - we've started testing but you really need to use it a lot to get a true idea. I've used other Neato's quite a lot so it is quite familiar but there is a new app and the software is actually quite different.

@@user-jt5vm3mi1w Haha, we decided not to proceed with our review as we were promised upcoming updates and it got bumped off the schedule. I'll have to boot the D10 up again and see what updates have come through. It felt like it was released a bit prematurely when we first got it so hopefully it has improved.

I have been using the d5 and d7 for a long time and I've always loved the for the d-shape, lidar, intelligent cleaning patterns and superb cleaning capabilities. But it seems the d8-d10 models unfortunately don't bring a lot of really noteworthy upgrades to the table other than PR slogans (bigger battery, better filter) and are a bit behind the 2021 competition. Would you be so kind to take a really close look at the following things in your in-depth review: THE ROBOT: does it have any "really" new hardware features over the d5/d7, e.g. brushes that don't tangle as much or are sturdier, improved or new sensors/cameras, Hotspot detection (e. G. Dining area or rugs that then maybe also be displayed on the coverage map after a run). Also, how well does it actually clean the edges/corners. My d7 was always quite far off the edge - probably 1-2cm so it would not pick up dirt reliably that was close to the wall because of the rather small sidebrush, the d5 seemed to be better in that regard. Also The d7 had a lot of problems with slightly altered floorplans, if there was a larger object standing somewhere in the starting area it would fail to recognize the floorplan and refuse to start in the first place. Other times it had trouble navigating back home. THE APP: unfortunately a lot of reviews neglect this part. My grievances with the old neato app (and owners of D7 and below are locked out of the new app) were the following: no real-time indicator where the robot was in the apartment, unreliable or no positioning on the map if it got stuck somewhere (that already feels like asking too much, but a "xx% done" indicator based on the floorplan + data of previous runs would be amazing). Also big downsides: areas in the floorplan (e. G. Kitchen, bedroom, etc) could only be defined as rectangles and most importantly: you could only either clean the entire apartment or a single area, but not multiple areas in a single run, e.g. Hallway + kitchen or maybe any Hotspots that the robot might detect automatically (see above). I know that is a long list but some of these features are now available in cheaper brands and for 200€ less, so it's not unreasonable to expect it from a top-of-the-range model from one of the leading brands in 2021. Sorry for the lengthy comment and thanks for reading it! :)

Hi Christoph, my understanding is that while it is physically very similar (which isn't particular important - with a couple of exceptions), and there isn't too much new functionality, they are actually built on a new platform, hence the new app. I think that a lot of the issues people faced on D3-D7 have been addressed, but this still isn't going to be as fully featured as some of its competitors. The suction rating is definitely significantly increased too. I would say this is probably aimed at people who want a good automated vacuum that does a deep clean into corners, but not necessarily a highly sophisticated robot. You still can't schedule more than one area per "zone clean", nor is there a real-time indicator. I'm sure you can imagine there is definitely a big market for people who don't really care about the depth of app functionality and just want something to clean - at least 30% of robot vacuums are never even connected to WiFi so it seems reasonable to assume that a lot of the features are extremely under utilised on the Roborock/Ecovac etc apps. In terms of cleaning close to the edges, there seem to be a huge amount of factors, as some of the old gen Neato got closer to walls than others. Whether that's just a batch issue, or environmental, or dust on sensors, is hard to know for sure

There are definitely a lot of similarities. The app is definitely a huge improvement and the increase in suction makes it likely it will be the best at actual vacuuming, but it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that other options have. It'll likely suit certain people well (the wouldn't change the settings anyway type) but not excite people who want to automate and customise every little thing. Anyway, still testing away so that's just an early impression. Have you owned a Neato?

@@RobomateTV I own the D7 currently and a D85 prior to that. My folks have a D6. I've been on the fence with my D7, the software has been buggy and support from neato has been enthusiastic but unsuccessful.

@@Blakspire The software on the new range is fresh so it will be interesting to see how it compares. That is why there is a new app. What issues did you have with your D7?
@Blakspire
@Blakspire 2 жыл бұрын
The side brush died on both the D6 and D7. Sometimes when trying to start the D7 from the app it will just do the finished cleaning chime and not start. It doesn't leave the charging station, lidar doesn't spin up, doesn't spin up the vacuum. App will continue to say "checking my surroundings" for approximately 5 minutes until it eventually says "error loading floor plan". Force closing the app, Rebooting the app, uninstalling/reinstalling the app, and using the app on different devices all failed to fix the problem. Rebooting the robot also fails to fix the problem. After a seemingly random amount of time app functionality will return. Apologies for the rant, but I've spent hours trying to figure this out with Neato customer support. They claim its my wifi, but it's not.

Maybe time for the review already? In my experience Neatos are superior in their ability to pick up dirt compared to round shaped robots with a smaller main brush. The old XV Neato picks up more dirt than the new Ecovacs, not being as sophisticated though. Also the true HEPA filter of the D10 is a huge but overlooked benefit. I wish you reviewers would take Neato seriously as their hardware is best in business for what it's actually meant for (pick up as much dirt as possible while not polluting the air inside the house).

I’m a Neato fan from years ago. I prefer the D7 to the D10 though unfortunately, as the software seems worse on the new platform whilst the hardware is still pretty similar overall. I’m hoping for a new model soon.

Thanks for your reply. I wish I could put my Ecovacs T9 "brain" and app in a Neato, that would make a pretty perfect robot :) I bought the D10 yesterday so will soon find out how it compares to the XV-25 and T9, no experience of the D7. Multi maps still "coming soon"...

P.S. I don't think a new model is needed if they would just focus on improving the software for the current models. That is where they are behind.
