There’s never been a better time to become a KZfaqr, an artist, a musician, a writer, or whatever type of creative you want to be.
Let's talk about why that is, and hopefully, if you’ve ever thought to yourself “man, I’d love to be a KZfaqr (or artist, or musician or whatever it is), but I just can’t do it-I don’t have what it takes, the algorithm sucks, or nobody cares about what I want to make”--I can show you that things aren’t as bad as they seem, and I think you should do it.
You should be a KZfaqr, or a creator of whatever kind, if that’s what you want to do, even if it’s really hard and it sucks for a while. And I’m gonna back that up by telling you a little bit about me, and my story when it comes to KZfaq and all that, and all the things I’ve learned from people smarter than me.

The follow-up video is here!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oqyAqMSSns2sj58.htmlsi=k84Fm3juwan973ai To clarify, it's not that I believe we should all be starving artists and walk around being pretentious about our creations. I'll still be making compromises with what I make in order to monetize (for example, a few of you will notice ads even in this video--I tried to set them so they would have rather cheeky timing, see if you can catch what I did😉) My message here is really about striking the balance, so that both our hunger to create and our hunger for food can be satisfied

This was incredibly refreshing. I'm a small creator, and have noticed alot of the 'Pyramid scheme' stuff you describe towards the beginning of the video. I've noticed on alot of 'Small creator' communities, alot of this stuff seeps in. Alot of people are looking for community, and when the community is built on rubbing your small success in other people's faces. You're cool man. Would LOVE to talk to you about this kind of stuff :)

That’s not necessarily a good thing. They will probably flood the platform with tik tok type of stuff. It’s not all bad though. Not long ago, I was just noticing how many new sonic content creators were rising on KZfaq and how refreshing it was to watch videos where it wasn’t the same tired old arguments and takes from jaded gamers. And it’s not like these young guys were praising the bad aspects of games that everyone hates, they were still as passionate about older games, same as the old guard. Only this time, I didn’t have to listen to idiotic claims like “Sonic Adventure is only half good cause Big the Cat” or “Sonic 06, am I right?” or any of that other idiotic stuff. In fact, often times, these younger people who just took these games at face value, instead of growing up with them and inevitably getting disappointed by their own unrealistic expectations, were less biased and less likely to criticise something stupid, like the voice actors or the green eyes. That’s not to say that I didn’t see younger folk with idiotic takes. Lots of them think Sonic Boom was a good idea. And lots of them are the politically correct, terminally online types. But overall I think I have enjoyed a lot of content that newer creators put out. Sometimes so much that I go to their channel, looking for reviews or retrospectives on other games in a series I like and being somewhat disappointed that they just started with the series and they didn’t get to a specific game I was looking to see their opinions on.

This man saved more people's dreams than finding a job ever could nowadays
@late.student
@late.student Ай бұрын
My opinion may differ from many or this creator. It's rough economically/prosperity wise but even more rough if you are only dead-set on a job in media/content. To add on to the "money as a motivator" aspect..people will come off as a lot more authentic if they aren't as stressed with youtube/whatever being their only source of income to pay the bills. If that's all you want to eventually do, realistically get there by supplementing with a normie job..and then break away when you can in a risk-calculated way (get more financially savvy). If you get to that point, see how far you can ride it out and try to keep your expenses in control. I feel like you'll have more success with a stable base underneath you. Of course there are people who can take off immediately but I would say there's tons of skills from different jobs you can port over to content creation. Ultimately, whatever avenue you take, be okay with knowing it will still be a "job" and takes work. Keep striving for a balanced life that affords you time to make your dreams a reality while accepting the realities of life and honoring your mental and physical health. Get good a managing your projects and keep them feeling fun and liberating with enough "small wins" to keep you going. Often times there's a lot of workflow and organizational tedium that will roadblock you but try to visualize your progress and keep framing your progress as a reward and you'll surprise yourself. Progress not perfection, keep outdoing yourself and have fun with the process and journey more than anything else.

I was a software developer for 15 years before moving into management and I am excited to be able to work with her and lend my programming experience towards her game. Life has been extra busy as we recently moved, but this past weekend I finally had a chance to start the game with her and I am so excited to do more for it.

I’m 21 now and since I finished that project I’ve felt like it was not worth releasing since the industry is saturated, the algorithm won’t favor me, or nobody cares about the type of music I’m making (even though I truly believe this project is the best I’ve ever done and is representative of myself). But this video kinda lined up with my own thoughts on the subject (recently, at least). I think I just needed someone else to say it for me to truly believe it. Thanks for the video and your message man, I’m gonna release it this month.

I needed this. Im an artist. And have been going for years. But over those years Ive struggled to find my space. I have been streaming for about 8 years as well. Drawing live fir people to see, but mostly on smaller sites as my content is often too spicy for Twitch. It can hurt sometimes to just be making art to an audiance of no one sometimes, especially when you have hopes of slowly replacing a bad job with the job you are passionate about. But whenever I feel like giving up, one of my friends pops into stream, or now that Im doing SFW art streams on twitch I keep meeting new people who just are just excited to see art, to talk about their art, and my heart is... Its hard to describe. Its this fullness, this completeness... Passion meeting other passion. Excited creativity meeting creativity. I think this vid is my new push... I have things I wish to expand into. To take my art to. Animation, game design. Here's to a year of tripping and falling as gracefully as I can.

As someone who grew up with KZfaq in the early 2010's, this feels different. Back then, there were little to not rules and no one knew what the fuck they were doing. Then things changed slowly after Google bought it. After a while, things became more corporate and kinda screwed everyone over. Now, people are starting to break free of that and are starting to make new content they enjoy while still under threat of that system. With all the resources we have now, a lot of the good videos can really stand out in quality as well! We're trying to grow a garden in a wasteland, and hopefully this will lead to a Renaissance.

I keep getting this same cycle that has been repeating in my life. I’ll listen to my “soul’s call to adventure” or however you want to say it, strive toward it, I take risks, I create videos that- I don’t care how anyone feels about it, I’m proud of my work. I have kept creating, and then getting discouraged. Creating, getting discouraged. I’ve been in a lot of abusive relationships, and those make you feel like: all the things you thought you were good at are just you having been a naive fool and arrogantly thinking you are talented and unique enough to make anything worthwhile. Nasty stuff. Point is, I keep arriving here over and over. It’s circling back to the same placement in destiny, because I didn’t ever get past this part. Thank you for reminding me that I have so so much to say. So many things I want to share, so many ways I’d love to help people who need a reason to hope again and all that cheesy shit :)) The video I was most afraid to make, is also the one I’m most proud of. It is a 3 hr or longer stream, where I watch a really funny flat earth debate and get very very passionate and excited while nerding out about science and physics:)) But yeah seriously. This video helped me a lot, and this is one of those videos that I’m definitely gonna revisit at least a million times

I hardly comment on KZfaq anymore, but I couldn't leave this video without. I went into this video thinking it'd be another inspirational piece on romaticising your life, building a business and audience, making money selling attention to advertisers - which is fine, but often ends up feeling like an ad for content platforms. There is so much in this video that resonates: the critical engagement with media, the questioning of purpose, intention, and authenticity, the spiritual elements, all of it. And on top of that you express things so eloquently and succinctly - WHILE PLAYING?? I thought this was a voiceover until I saw you mess up. You have a great talent for laying out ideas in a way that makes sense without diluting it. Long story short - thank you, this video was much needed.

Extremely motivational man, it’s so easy to feel rly bad and demotivated when you see the fast moving trends, the 5second popularity moments, the landscape of the algorithm on almost any social media platform, and think you’re work is hopeless, won’t work, you might get bullied, no one will like it, you’ll feel like you wasted your time, because I’ve felt like that throughout my life towards my creative works which stunts me for long periods of time. 22:27 the part where you said "art is society" touched something within me. it was a belief i resonated strongly with in the past but i lost touch with it as i grew. i stopped believing in art, started convincing myself that i was supposed to do other things that were more "important". i started seeing and critiquing the things i've created by looking at them on the surface level, just as products, started to dismiss my old art as something small i used to do to "pass time". but after watching this, it made me remember how art made me feel. not just creating, but also witnessing and experiencing others' works, and how it had the power to shake me to my core. that strength and connection that i felt which came with the experience of art. thank you for rekindling something within me again.

"Engaging with the game through the lens of making character choices instead of mindlessly seeking in-game rewards." You put into words exactly why I was so into Skyrim, and still like it for that matter. When I made a character I had a personality type or assigned an alignment to them (neutral good / chaotic good etc.) and would play the game with that in mind. So instead of making choices that I would personally do, instead I would base my choices on the question, "What would my character do?" Which made it a *lot* more fun for me.

Yooo thanks so much for the shout out! It really warms my hear to my video being called inspirational. Someone recently commented on that Emergent Narrative video by saying that it helped them feel more confident about the style of content they want to make. It's enough to make a guy tear up. I only expected a handful of views when I started recording my thoughts about Daggerfall, but I had the feeling of needing to "get this off my chest" and share my thoughts with whoever would listen. Seems like being passionate is half the battle. Incidentally, my real passion is writing, but my faith in myself on this front has diminished as my time gets swallowed up by my day job and now content creation. So in a way this video was inspirational for me as well, as I've come to realize just how many people are out there waiting for your passion project to make its way to them. Also, it was really cool to watch someone else simply play a video game while talking about something on their mind. There's something very calming and conversational about it. Thanks again for the mention, best wishes to you.

Yeah the best advice I can give you is just start dont wait till you can make the perfect video, as you go with youtube youll get better at making content and at some point youll look at your old videos in digust but that just means youve made a lot of progress and sometimes maybe videos just dont get views, dont go on and on staring at analytics, just try to make the best video you can and want to make

Yup yup I have to constantly tell myself that the things I make don't have to be perfect! I know from experience that you have to grit your teeth and clench your fists and keep pounding it into your brain "It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be done." That fear of others not liking your work or you looking back at your own work someday and cringing is debilitating! The only way you can convince yourself that it's better to be done than perfect is by taking a breath and just posting the thing you've made. And letting the world and the feeling of finishing something once and for all prove it to you.

I had the idea years ago to do a podcast where I record gaming B-roll simultaneously while recording the audio but don't really talk about what's happening in the game. I never did it because I never knew what to talk about. My theoretical idea was to talk to friends for it, that way a conversation could be more natural, but I never got in a call with someone just to talk. I'd still like to make that, but the biggest issue is with having someone in that call because they only time I really have that chance is when I'm playing games with them, which necessitates talking about the game a lot, and at that point it just becomes the average Let's Play. I have started streaming again, though, and I've been enjoying it, it's just not quite the same idea - but maybe that idea doesn't have to happen. Or at least it doesn't have to be me. This kicks ass and is almost exactly what I was thinking.

23:27 this. I always felt that I could never make it as a musician, because the more popular you get the stronger the pull to make stuff that people want to hear from you, the more you conform and the more you stray away from the music that’s uniquely you. The music that’s in your heart. I know it sounds cheesy but it’s true, I always feel like there’s a tune or composition that echoes throughout my being, but every time I get down to writing it, feelings of worthlessness and how nobody would want to listen to your music just seep out into the forefront. Soon enough your pen just stops before it hits the paper, and you forget why you’re even there in the first place. You look around you, social media or KZfaq music, desperately trying to find a melody that fills that void, but each time you’re just reminded of the true self that you abandoned that you can’t even hope to remember. Sorry for this being so long, I’d just thought I’d leave a genuine opinion for once, since you left me with a yours. This’s pretty much where I am at in my life right now, so sorry if it didn’t have a happy ending or had any loose ends tied up. But I just wanna say that this video had an impact on me as great as any Dr.K video. Thanks a lot

Dude…your video had an impact on me! Maybe more than anything I ever saw from Dr. K! This video made me cry, I have been wanting to become a KZfaqr ever since I was a kid but never had the opportunity or equipment to make the things I wanted to make, now that I am an adult with a computer and a brain I let my mind run wild, thank you so much for this video, it really has encouraged me to keep trying! Also, I wanted to add something about the "become successful fast" topic that a lot of people think about when it comes to making content: I do like that you mention culture being an important and impactful part of our recent world, but I feel like there's a lot of people who see content creation as a way out of living the "hard life." I have met countless amount of people that have told me that they want to "work in marketing to get easy money and live the luxurious life" that we see in media nowadays, and frankly -- although I ultimately respect their decision and perspective on why they would want to do that-- I think its a pathetic way to view life. The world has become such a huge oyster for the "rich man controls the world" mentality that we have forgotten what it means to enjoy our existence. I loved the example of the Runescape Infinite Money Glitch bullshit, because its true! People want all the luxuries and all the accolades that money brings, but would rather find the easiest way to get rich instead of enjoying the process and how good it feels to EARN what you work hard for, the money becomes their sole purpose in life and they forget to enjoy everything else. People forget the hardships and the process of success. It takes YEARS before you can reach an audience, my favorite example is Videogamedunkey, he started as a kid on Newgrounds making animations because he wanted to make art just like those people that he looked up to, he made voice overs, gameplay videos, edits, songs, things that he just finds silly and fun to him, and people loved that about him. It took him north of a decade to get to the position he is at, but the one thing that never changed for him was his passion for the things he made, and thats why his viewers still stick around, because not only do they enjoy the personality of videogamedunkey, but the effort and love he has for his craft. Your first video will most likely not get a million views, and if it does then you are a rare case! but for the rest of us who are climbing our way to the top, we will get there eventually. Rome wasn't built in a day, y'know...! With that being said, I'll take that advice for myself as well, and thank you Neat for this extra push that your video has given me personally, and I hope it gives others that push as well.

I keep a select few videos in a playlist, in the event I ever start to lose motivation. They've helped me get myself into that mindset of "I should just do it because I want to." I think this video is going to go into that playlist. Sure, I monetize my videos, but I've also made drastic changes because the money wasn't enough to keep making those videos. It was the incentive that I can express what I want, when I want, however I want, that kept me going. I'm going to come back to this video once in a while because it's always nice to have that reminder. Since your title also mentions artist, there is something I've wanted to try my hand at. I wont say, but what I will say is that it's for the silliest reason that I want to commit to. Great video, Neat.

Thanks Frank 😄 this means so much. I've been thinking almost nonstop about monetization, because I don't want to be completely beholden to the deeply unfair systems I ranted about in this video, but I also want this to be my career, so it's about finding that balance, wherever it is

Thank you for making this! I’ve gotta back to making content on YT. I feel it’s my calling just to create. I love my current job, but I know in my soul that it’s not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I find joy in people appreciating my art (content). This video lit that fire in me again. I’m promising myself to at the very least create something every week and not just to satisfy the algorithm, but to make something that I am proud of. Thank you so much for your words and o accept your challenge! You are definitely someone that is worthy to be looked up to.

Honestly that was the most inspiring video i have ever watched in YEARS, so many famous creators talking about motivation on yt, but instead of actually helping, all they do is making me feel even more stressed and depressed, cuz it is all about how to get money and be selfish nowdays.The only thing that can actually make us happy is feeling useful by creating art,make poeple laugh, culture or making ur dreams come true, without caring how huge is ur comunity, but caring only about what comunity you draw to ur creations.Even if its only one person. My favourite phrase from the bible is " The present has enough problems on its own, u dont need to put up with the problems that MIGHT come in the future". I really needed to be reminded that by someone.

When you spoke about dharma and one’s calling in life, it really struck a chord with me. Ever since I was about 10 years old, I wanted to be like the creators of KZfaq’s golden years and be able to make other people laugh & smile, just like they did for me. I wanted to be able to share my love for my favorite games and art with others. For one reason or another, -either lack of time, money or knowledge, -I shelved that passion and desire to create to focus on other “more important”but less fulfilling things in my adolescence through my early 20’s. In the past two years, I’ve been streaming as a VTuber, building a small community. I’ve even tried learning how to edit recently in my small amount of spare time, which is something I find I love. While I’m nowhere near “successful” or even in a place to be able to leave my day job to be able to able to pursue this full time, content creation something that’s genuinely changed my life for the better, and it’s something I genuinely feel called to. I can’t say this enough - thank you for making & posting this video. It’s something I really needed to hear in this period of my life, and this video is really motivating for someone just starting their journey 🩷

I really like the way you explained dharma and when you were explaining the plot of Spider-Man 2, it made me tear up a bit because you explained it so beautifully. The fact that the "call", that same "call" that your brain knows requires a lot of work, comes up all of a sudden while you're doing anything that gives you instant gratification, like scrolling reels, playing games, watching movies, laying in bed, etc just means it is so powerful and important and purposeful to you. When your mind is reminding you to do the tasks that requires a lot of efforts while you're pleasuring yourself the quickest way, that really is important to you and you should do it! ohh and btw i'm making videos that really interests me for my channel, thanks for the challenge! And to think, i was about to skip this video lol

I don't usually comment but I wish I could like a video more than once. The amount of genuine laughs I had and the way I felt so refreshed afterwards was actually mindboggling. I sat in bed, staring at the ceiling as I was listening. It felt like I was listening to a friend rant late at night about a topic their passionate about while I'm half asleep yet still taking in every word. I gained a new perspective on purpose and passion while simultaneously agreeing as if I already knew all of this. Your ability to articulate your thoughts is impressive, especially while playing a video game! This is actually the best piece of media I have seen all day. Seriously thank you for posting this.

I never leave comments on videos but this was just genuinely inspiring. I think it's so important to remember that the world and system we live in and under are designed and purposed to make the average person depressed. It's the simple rebellion through authenticity that is meaningful and I think this video captured this perfectly. It's so rare to see something genuinely authentic.

I've been making music for a long time and releasing it for 3 years. I stopped posting on KZfaq basically like 8 months ago because I've been more focused on fast paced shorts. But I HATE IT so much. I used to make pretty authentic content and now I feel like when I promote my music, I don't make it authentic but something that people will stay hooked on. This video has inspired me to start making AUTHENTIC KZfaq videos again.

**Very** small time KZfaqr here. This video really resonated with me. I work a regular full time day job, and I'm surrounded by people who enjoy it. But to me, it just pays the bills. Without it I'd be screwed but that's equally the same for my KZfaq hobby. If I wasn't spending every waking moment outside of my job working on this silly little hobby, I would feel like more of a failure than if I lost my job. Being creative is what gets me up in the morning. I too struggle to get up for anything else. Literally. I have over 15 work alarms. Aside from numerous hidden videos, I've released two long-form videos. One did scarely well (to me) and one flunked. It took a lot of reflection and reassurance from my friends to not tie the value of my art to the view count. And to actually consider my work as art to begin with. I've come to the conclusion that even if I never become super successful at this KZfaq thing, I'd much rather that than one day being an old man regretting I never tried to my fullest. Making videos and sharing my voice is absolutely my calling. Excellent video, Neat.

Thank you so much for making this video, i really needed to hear everything you said here. I've been wanting amd getting ready to start making videos fro some time now (ON ANOTHER ACCOUNT, THIS IS NOT SELF PROMOTION) but i just haven't started because i keep thinking that it has to be perfect and i put it off, convincing myself that its just gonna be until i get a good microphone or a better computer but i just have all these ideas and this motivation that im not allowing myself to do because i fear that im gonna ruin it if it isnt perfect. But just like you said near the end of the video, ill start today, ready or not. I dont know how long itll be untill i get somethingnwatchable ready but ill just shut up and do it.

I'm gonna be honest, seeing my favorite video game character of all time In the video makes this even more inspirational, I always looked up to sonic, even when he went downhill, I still looked up to him and appreciated how much joy he brought me. And I don't care which sonic it is, classic, boom, modern. Sonic is sonic to me. And sonic is the reason I got into art, which of course I started pretty rough, but I kept going and I found a style I was comfortable with. People may have different views on my art, but if I like it, I think that's all that matters.
