I always thought the Nebula was probably one of those underappreciated designs. Middle child syndrome. Too big to be "plucky" like Defiants or Intrepids. Not massive enough to be majestic like Galaxies or Sovereigns, except they really were majestic in their own way.

There are like the 2nd-WW navy P.T.boats that wore sent in rescue & hit& run missions. Starfleet should a squadron of Nebula-Class just WW-2 to escort Excalibur the bigger class in case of attack ambush Nebula class ship to rescue. I like the Nebula-class not that unattractive like Enterprise-class, not a pretty ship.

Decent design, it has a rather severe case of the 'kitbash' syndrome imo. The sensor pod on top is nice, but they should've adjusted the secondary hull, maybe even remove it and make it look like a miranda class type of design.

I love this design so much more over its bigger brother, the Galaxy Glass. It looks better, feels more maneuverable, and looks very intimidating. I wish we got to see this more often

I would assume that this is only possible if the stardrive section of the Nebula is without a mission pod, given that the Galaxy saucer section is longer, wider, and most importantly, taller (dorsal-to-ventral) than the Nebula saucer, in canon. With a pod in place, there's simply not enough room. And even if there were room due to the aft taper of the Galaxy saucer, how would you get in the shuttle bay with the pod sitting right at the entrance?

The CGI rendering... Wow! This is absolutely top quality Production Studio level work! Extraordinary talent! What I wouldn't give to have you go through and upgrade the Next Generation seasons with lots of CGI ships and variants that they weren't able to do at the time. As far as the ship itself my only problem with the Nebula is how many of the windows have to look out at the glaring red bussard collectors; you'd have to have your window blinds eternally shut LOL!

Interesting bit about the ability to recover Galaxy-class saucer sections. I've long understood that the Nebula saucer section was significantly smaller than the Galaxy in all three dimensions, including the important dorsal-to-ventral height. That would suggest that fitting the taller Galaxy saucer in the same space as the Nebula saucer would be problematic - if not impossible - with a mission pod attached.

Pictures like that wont exist for likley half of the ships we are looking at. We are also going to show all of the one off's and ship varients...and odd federation ships so adding them into a set formula..where the next week there would then be a hole in the episode wont work. We have the model and can always gaurantee HD high quality renders...we cant get interior shots for many ships...and anything from DS9/Voyager would be limite to SD and look bad in this 1080HD show.

Markus Weißner I've never really liked their versions of the nebula bridge. I understand why it is shown like that on TV ( umpteenth redress of the battle bridge) but I always felt that the nebula and a few other ships from that era that are kitbashes of galaxy class models should instead be variants of the galaxy class bridge, much the same way later secondary vessels bridges should be variations of the Defiant, Voyager, and Enterprise E bridge depending on their presumed design date and relative size

I think you're right. They kept it like this when they wanted it to be a fill-in ship or a non--specific ship. You can tell there's markings on the top, but on SD usually can't tell what they are. When it was featured on DS9 "Waltz" as the USS Honshu with a closeup, they added Voyager style pennants with NCC-60205 on the side of the nacelle pylons

I always thought when watching DS9 that during and after the Dominion War, the Nebula class vessels should have received two additional phaser arrays i.e. 'blisters' mounted on the ventral side of the warp nacelles similar to the same dorsal mounted phaser array blisters we see on the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Venture. In addition some ablative armor coating on the most vulnerable parts of the ship such as the bridge, nacelle struts and the support pylon for the mission configurable pod.

Since it's only 22 decks, the saucer on this would be smaller than on the Galaxy class. I didn't realise it could allow a much larger saucer section to attach in the same place without issues.

treguard1982 It should be the same, identical saucer section. Identical in size, not necessarily configuration, such as main bridge. The Nebula Class doesn't have the Galaxy Class' cobra type neck. That's where the main difference in the number of decks is noticed.

The pylon for the "mission pod" is in the approach path for the shuttle bay on the saucer. If this ship uses a saucer that is interchangeable with the Galaxy class then how is it smaller, lighter or faster? it's just a shorter and stubbier version of that class with a slightly smaller secondary hull and the awkward pod on top.

@JanetStarChild

Agreed. And they're basically swapping the neck for a mission pod, so it's virtually the same amount of parts. And everyone keeps calling the Nebula class ship the "smaller one" and "little sister" to the Galaxy class ship, but in reality, they're about the same size; just configured differently.

how would it have been designed concurrently with galaxy class starships yet be designed to pick up their saucer sections at warp speed (you said under warp power which falls to warp speed in my mind) when the enterprise d when first separating its saucer section at warp speed wasn't sure if it could do it. something is messy.
@brianwesley28

kght222 I think the implication may have been that the Saucer Section would be operating at below C. The Nebula (or another Galaxy Class) is warp capable and could be used to retrieve it much faster than it would be able to make its own way on impulse.

Stuart - The Galaxy and Nebula internal volume is virtually the same -It makes no sense to dedicate a class upgrade to retrieve another starship's Saucer. You'd use another Galaxy class leaving the saucer at Starbase. That just didn't make any sense. I don't know where that came from guys. -Nebula would have the same width as Galaxy. 463.73 Meters. (Don't base it off the CGI model) Samuel -Much Better pace and pronunciations. (Thank You) -Evacuation limits on Nebula and Galaxy is 15,000

Stuart said *another use* of the Nebula was to retrieve stranded saucer sections. He never claimed that the Nebula class was "dedicated" to that purpose.

Indeed. My mistake. I thought Stuart was following Samuel's description of the refit abilities. Regardless...The Nebula has no separation plane and thus no separation abilities... It doesn't even have visible impulse engines on the Saucer. This is a data file. Be accurate with the facts guys. You've reviewed the this ship before. It's understandable that somethings you'll need to be creative about but don't make up warp speeds like warp 9.9 with out some research and reasoning behind it. -Only two ships travel at warp 9.9. Intrepid and Prometheus. -The Galaxy's BEST SPEED was established in Encounter at Far Point Warp 9.8 (at EXTREME RISK) That's alot of room to play with. A better number would have been warp 9.65 or 9.7.

Enterprise-E maximum speed is Warp 9.95/9.99/9.995 depending on the source. Voyager is rated at 9.975 and Enterprise-D at 9.6

Enterprise E had no canon warp speed. Canon: -Sovereign has a 7 stream warp core. -According to TNG "Booby Trap" additional streams increase power by 20% =Therefore Sovereign is operating a minimum of 1.8 times Galaxy Power Output (nearly 2x) My best guess and Data: Using the Warp Speed Calculators If Sovereign is generating 80% more power than at Galaxy then at warp and red alert Sovereign's power is divided in about a third. Assuming no other variables: -Warp 9.419 Max Sustained (At Full Shields and Weapons Power) Warp 9.727 Max 12 hrs Dash Speed. With no physical limits and all 80% additional power to engines: Warp 9.8938 Note: -We know the Sovereign has better structural integrity but there is no way to quantify that number. -While Voyager has better speed tech it is not shown on Sovereign at all. (articulation frame, Field enhancers on the hull) -Nemesis was able to catch Enterprise E in the Bassen Rift, thus Sovereign isn't much faster than Galaxy.

Please explain the 318m of width. The ship has a length of 442m and the width is actually bigger than the length. The saucer is the same as the Galaxy class. 318m is not longer than 442m...Doesn't anyone notice this?

I wonder how so many people talk about the Nebula Class and don't notice they have the witdh all wrong. The saucer is the same as the Galaxy class so the overall width of the Nebula has to be around 463 m. It is staggering and somewhat annoying.

More compact than the Galaxy Class but with the same mass?. I do like the Nebula Class.

Basically the Nebula was the cheaper warrior sister of the Galaxy. If I was going into battle Id rather be on a Nebula than a Galaxy.

Daehawk Agreed. The warp field geometry of the Nebula is more efficient, because she's more compact. She has better shields. Then, depending upon the specific pod selection, the Nebula can run circles around the Galaxy, in combat.

takes a good pilot to fly a shuttle craft out to avoid a collision with pylon lol

Philip Gater agreed rather than have the shuttlebay be part of the neck I would have made it part of the hard point structure the attaches the mission specific pod to the engineering section
@saquist
@saquist 7 жыл бұрын
That's why Nebula was originally designed with the senor pod dual pylon support. The designers that replaced it were thinking about fight operation out of the main shuttlebay. That's what you get when you go with what looks cool instead of functionality.

So trekyards, why don't you know exactly how many ships are in a class. the research I have done, the numbers don't match up. example is then DS9 they say a fleet has 400 or so ships. If you look at all the numbers mentioned on the star trek websites, the numbers don't add up.
