Following on from last weeks video with Dr. Brendan McLaughlin of @thevaultperformance we continue to take a closer look into the importance of setting up well and what that could look like for an individual. This week we discuss the neck.
There are a number of common themes in golf videos that are covered in abundance, neck posture is not one of them. However how a player moves around this segment of the spine has a huge influence on other areas of the golf swing.
When a player moves into a set up position in the golf swing optimizing the range and ability to move well at the neck it provides the opportunity for the player to initiate backswing with that nice snake like pattern of rotation working from top down through the spine. This is then viewed on a more broader scale as a ‘nice simple clean take away’ with minimal reduced compensatory patterns, pelvis thrust and sway, ribcage shift off the ball etc. Again this goes back to the topic of, it is not how much rotation a player achieves but how they are achieving it that is of value.
As always Dr. Brendan shares his expert perspective on this topic in a very digestible way giving us all something to go away and consider for our own set up.
