I’m Indian Origin Thamizh in Sri Lanka. The dialect we speak mostly of Madurai with some Trichy elements. When we converse with Jaffna Tamils they make fun out of our dialect. Even when the Batticaloa Tamils talk Jaffna Tamils make fun of them as well. When you come to Colombo, the Colombo Tamils speak a dialect mixed with words used by Muslims just like in Chennai.

@kashsoldier - Encyclopedia Britannica says both Tamil & Sanskrit have no known origin. Both are oldest languages. So, Mr. Kashsoldier, Do not write anything without proof. Pure Tamil do not have words either from Sanscrit or any other language. But spoken Tamil have picked up words from Malayalam, Telugu & Kannada which are having nearly 50% sanskrit words. As for Veera selvi, It was so sweet to listen to her vattara(Pattukottai) thamizh. People should know that Vattara Thamizh also has got some sweetness. Encouraging everyone to speak only pothu thamizh is not justified. I live in Vizag (A.P) for last 35 yrs and have learnt Telugu. But when I go to Hyderabad, it is difficult to understand the local Telugu. Pure Telugu is spoken only in Vijayawada and beyond. But when we go to Hyderabad and speak pothu (general) Telugu, the local people immediately change their dialect and speak pothu Telugu. Because of the invasion of people from other places, Hyderabad Telugus have not changed their dialect ie., the slang Telugu. They maintain their slang.

Tamil is an old beautiful highly advanced rich language. There are astonishingly beautiful, subtle, intellectually orgasmic things hidden in Tamil texts. Do read and experience those. Language influences our thinking ability and evolution. Old Tamil literature is filled with such things which may change your perception of everything and may prompt your psyche towards a positive evolution. So try Tamil literature and try to speak pure Tamil.

ஒவ்வொரு வட்டாரத்துக்கும் ஒரு பேச்சுத்தொனி உண்டு. பொதுவாக நான் சிறுவயதில் பேசியது, வஞ்சாங்க - திட்டினார்கள்,சத்தம் போட்டார்கள். பேனா கொப்பி - பேனா மூடி அம்மா சொல்லுச்சி - அம்மா சொன்னாங்க ஜோப்பு - பாக்கெட் ஆனம் - குழம்பு,கிரேவி செத்த நில்லு - கொஞ்சம் நில்லு இந்தாண்ட, அந்தாண்ட - இங்க, அங்க. தண்ணி மொண்டு கொடு - தண்ணி பிடித்து கொடு. இன்னும் சொல்ல போனால் நான் சின்ன வயதில் எப்படி பேசினேன் என்பது எனக்கு நிறைய மறந்துவிட்டது. நானும் எவ்வளவோ (இல்லாத) மூளையை பிசைந்து பார்த்துட்டேன், ஆனால் நினைவுக்கு வந்தது இவ்வளவுதான்.. சிலர் நினைவு படுத்தும்போது வேண்டுமானால் இதை விட்டு விட்டோமே என்று தோன்றலாம். இதையே நான் வெளியூர் சென்று படிக்கும்போது நண்பர்களிடம் பேசியபோது, அவர்கள் என்னை பார்த்து கிண்டலடித்ததும், இப்படி பேசக்கூடாதோ என்று என்னை மாற்றிக்கொண்டேன். சில நேரங்களில் என்னையும் மீறி அது எட்டிப்பார்க்கும். ஆனால் ஒன்று மட்டும் உண்மை. நீங்கள் உங்கள் வட்டார மொழியை விட்டு, பொது தமிழில் பேசிப்பாருங்கள் அது ரொம்ப அழகாகவே இருக்கும்.
