Negative Painting Technique: Full Painting Process

Hi everyone, hope you all had a fantastic Easter! In this video I am diving in deep into negative painting and showing you step by step, layer by layer, how to build up a pile of leaves using this technique. It is definitely a long video but was necessary so that everyone could understand the process that goes into negative painting. I love this technique ..Thank you so much for sharing this ..I have never been much on back grounds and when i did they were usually the last thing i did ..But never did i associate it with negative painting and the technique you have showed me in this video is sooo cool ..I have been very busy making hand cut stencils for the last few months. I just use heavy weight poster board and a straight up Exacto blade .This poster board is a step up for me because a lot of my stencils last year were made with cereal boxes lolol .And it occurred to me to make stencils to help me draw the underneath layers starting with the top layers ...

Thank you!! I agree with others here: yours is the only video which explains not just what you're doing but why you're doing it. You stay with keeping it simple, and beginner at each step, and don't go on tangents like shading of leaves etc, which can come later (and which really are for the sake of making the experts painting look fantastic, and which also defeats the purpose of the teaching video 😂) Thanks so much! Thank you. So glad you enjoyed it. Yes! It was so hard for me when I was learning as well because there wasn’t anything super easy and clear which is why I made this video. You can always shade your leaves and add details later. The point is to understand the neg painting process. I’m so happy you enjoyed it!

So glad you enjoyed it. I did another negative painting with fall leaves and left a lot more open space and love that one. Take your time as well, it doesn’t have to be done in a day. It does take a lot of time, and a lot of watercolor paintings like that do. I tend to enjoy just watching the colors play in a loose style but every now and then I’ll do something like this. No matter what you do just have fun 😎

Loved the video, and thank you for sharing. I wish the music was varied. It was hard to listen to over and over. Could mute it, but then couldn't hear your instructions.
