Beautiful indeed. This takes me back, that's how we grew up in southern Europe in the 80s and 90s. Go play, come back for supper when the sun goes down. No phones, no internet. More human in more ways than one, certainly more connected to other people.

Born and raised in carroll gardens. We called it South Brooklyn back then. Everything said brought me back. I'm the last generation who got to experience the neighborhood this way. It was truly an amazing time and era. This was fantastic. Thank you for doing this and for telling the story that everyo e now a days wants to forget.

So Beautiful. I grew up for nine years in Brooklyn then in Whitestone Queens. This is how it was. Playing in the streets, the families outside, walking the neighborhood. No murders in Whitestone that were big or common. Then in '72 I moved to Phoenix. A whole different world. Now you don't see the kids on the street unaccompanied. It is a sad time. I take my children and grandchildren back to the "neighborhood" to show them and tell them the stories. It excites them so. Many of my friends are in the family now as in-laws. We are tight knit. Loyalty, friendship, compadres. A lost art.

Fabulous!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I grew up in the fifties in a small town ( in Northern California ) where all the kids in the neighborhood played at each other’s homes. Our parents knew where we were at all times…playing tether ball, Barbie for the girls, GI Joe for the boys, bicycling, swimming….sitting in our room behind a computer for hours would have been considered a punishment.

I’ve lived in union now for a year, I had no idea of the rich history embedded in its cracks. I’ve come to live the neighborhood, and find it quite peaceful. The locals are friendly, and extend a level of hospitality that you just don’t get everywhere else. I agree with some of the last sentiments though. Growing up, even in my own neighborhood, there used to be kids playing outside everyday. Halloween was flooded with trick-or-treaters going door to door. Now, these kids are so sheltered. Their imagination is being dulled by social media and video games. And the sad part is, the parents allow it. Hopefully some day soon, kids will start to run around outside again, and get creative with the games they play!

Twee bit of nostalgia that lacks any critical reflection on what is being said. The narrator says he wants the neighbourhood back to how it was, despite earlier mentioning crime that sucked him in? He lost 20 years of his life to jail but wouldn’t change his decisions. Why? He is now a landlord despite his youthful misdemeanours. How?
