I think the stage manager and tech crew are the real stars of big production numbers like this. All of this would fall flat if the lighting cues, music cues, props or any other bit was missed. Imagine if the wrong people showed up on stage or at the wrong time? Putting something like this on requires extreme split second timing from a huge number of people. NASA has nothing on this!

Julie Biddle I’m the stage manager for the theater group at the school I work at (no not broadway but either way). It is definitely a tough job making sure the kids enter and exit correctly, get the right props and scene sets out and shutting the kids up backstage lol

I'm convinced that NPH has a magical aura around him that causes people to break out into song and dance at his slightest whim, all starting with a pizzicato violin. This wasn't rehearsed, it just happened and they caught it on film by coincidence. Then again I have never met the man but I believe it to be true.

If life were more like the theater I would lose a nice amount of weight with all the dance numbers and I'd probably have some great songs in there since my life is continually full of drama. It would be interesting

This is just perfect. I really like the idea that life could be just like theater. Neil is great. No matter if there is a mistake or not. Even in theater mistakes happen and the most important thing is to go on. I entirely enjoyed his performance and would be happy to have him hosting the next Tonys again.
