Rush was my first concert 30 years later I'm helping setup the r 40 kit what a ride a stagehand for 20years I met Taylor I was a loader he's walking pass the dock to the smoking area I said I know you he greeted me with his grace his coolness lots of memories from my rock n roll family goodbye and will see ya down the road across the river my brother 🤛🤘👊🦋🙏🦋🌹😎🖤

I still find myself sitting in my car with a knot in my throat listening to some FF music playing on the radio. Neil's death hit me like a ton of bricks, but I had read about his battle, so I was kind of aware. But as you and Copeland say, that gut punch of a sudden death, the disbelief, the vain hope that it's all a lie, that's just too much to take in.

"I'm a Rush fan, and like every other Rush fan, had no idea Neil was ill" Not a very big fan, I suppose.

@@Frontdesk99 I remember reading about it in Rolling Stone mag, that he was wheelchair bound. So even when he tried to keep it on the low, the news were out there for some time .

Frontdesk99 was aware that Neil had a Gioblastoma tumor that was slowly killing him starting about 18 months after Rush's last tour ended. Only BIG Rush fans, such as Frontdesk99, were intimately aware of his condition.

I wasn't so surprised by Jeff Porcaro's passing; he indulged pretty enthusiastically and not only played in Steely Dan and Toto but was a fabulous session player who contributed to many pop hits(I thought he was TOO perfect, kind of) and burned his candle at both ends AND the middle. Taylor Hawkins was more of a shock, but not after I heard about the Coroner's report. He was "Young at Heart," but he was 50 and had abused the party favors in the past, and he did NOT have a young heart. The wife of his friend Roger Taylor(of Queen) called him "Sunshine in human form," which is how I like to think of him. I'm shocked but I really feel for his family and Dave Grohl, who was an especially close buddy. Stuart is right, it does seem like it's open season on the "Great Ones." And there's more of them, these of the classic generation of Rockers, who are doubtless being looked at by Father Time every day, these days. Those entertainers, who have been described as "Seat-of-your-pants Shamans," and replacing Religion in Modern Life, have a place in our lives because their music is(and has been) SO important to us. I wish them all Good Fortune and Good Health - and ALL of you reading this, too. Fortune passes everywhere.

Yes! I loved how he paid homage to classic songs and didn't let his stardom determine the shows he played.

You can tell he really liked sharing his love of rock with others. I've seen videos of him doing little drum sessions with schoolkids, and apparently he did some charity work with the Midnight Mission to help the homeless. He was an unpretentious and charitable soul.

He was so grounded and humble, he called his band "The Coattail Riders", a nod at cashing in on his mentor/friend Dave Grohl's success. I loved Taylor and his playing, and still cannot believe he is gone. As a singing drummer, Dave and Taylor felt like kin that I idolized.

That is awesome u are learning drums! The most fun instrument of all time. I definitely recommend finding a great teacher, as I did not learn the fundamentals when I was young and thus had some bad habits to try to undo... orlandodrummer is an incredible teacher on YT u might check out, he crushes. rock on.

lol he really wasn't that good.. Taylor was a pretty unremarkable drummer. He was good, sure. Did he do anything that changed drumming the way the others you named did? Hell no lmao. He played in a pop band.

I would consider him a good drummer but only for Rock. Therecsre so many great drummers like for jazz thatscthe category where i will pick the best drummer. Like Dave weckl, Vinnie Collauta, Manu Katche and Jeff Porcaro these are the ones that are great drummers.

How in the hell can you compare John Bonham's death with Neil Peart ? John Bonham was basically still a kid - barely 30 yrs old - bad analogy

@@davidrice3337 Well it's really about the impact that John and Neil had on my life as someone that learned a great deal from both. The key word here is "impact" in terms of their level of play and respect for their style and knowledge.

@@michaelcruz7704 I like everyone you mention and would add Steve Gadd, Danny Carey, both Portnoy and Mangini, and so many more that were a little more advanced than Taylor but with all do respect he did grow a great deal while playing with the Foos and was admired by many.

my two cents (as a drummer) would say the physical abuse / pain and stamina it takes to play the drums - especially at a professional level - can lead to some bad self medicating and or performance enhancers.. you are literally a human shock absorber if you think about it.

ha! the flintstones!! I'm 63, & i often forget people's names....that I usually know with no problem. it especially happens when I'm trying too hard to think of the person's name. same thing goes with playing an instrument; if u try too hard to play something.....that's when the mistakes come. sorry to bring up the Studio 666 movie....but it REALLY gives me the creeps, especially after what has happened to Taylor. he was the one in the trailer, that mocked their was anything strange or evil going on...& then, Grohl kills him with a cymbal of all things. I get a bad vibe from Grohl in the last few years or so....I didn't get that at all with Taylor Hawkins. He did, look really tired...or strung out in some of the recent pictures though.....but, not evil in any way. I play drums, bass & Pedal Steel Guitar. I stopped playing drums professionally because of health problems related to age....it's such a physically demanding instrument. I still play for my own pleasure....& jam with others though. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks....since the late 70's....not stage fright really, that doesn't bother me very much that people are watching me play. I have panic attacks anywhere...I could be sitting at home. I do medicate myself, via Valium Rx's from my doctor...& don't even have them.....as long as I take my 2 Valium a day, thank God. sometimes a THC gummy too. stopped drinking in 93. sorry for the long winded comment here.....but don't get involved in satanic crap...& it is that, crap. I was heavily involved in the occult in the late 70's & most of the 80's...thankfully I turned away from it...& have been a Christian since the late 80's. I had some REALLY intense "warnings"...so I rebuked any involvement in the occult, witchcraft, etc. Man, I wish Taylor was still alive & playing his butt off. Taylor's death seems the most unfair in the last few years. I'm still in shock over this. I wasn't surprised, when Ginger died. I knew SOMETHING was not right with Neil....because he just stopped playing his chosen instrument. Charlie Watts was old...so I wasn't surprised...but I'm always shocked when anyone dies. I hope & I pray that Stewart is with us for a long time to come. Stewart has been one of my favorite drummers since the 80's. Such a tasteful & awesome drummer!! Love his style of playing. Neil was my drum hero as well. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Taylor Hawkins. We all miss you so much!

I'm also a drummer, 56, I play in my bedroom, no bands since the late 90s, you're right too much responsibility, I also have anxiety and panic disorder, I take Xanax ,1 mg 4× a day. I can't sleep without it, power nap yes not real sleeping

@@m42037 a big, red/orange Devils head appeared in my bedroom & stayed around a minute. Literally...scared the hell out of me. Wasn't stoned or drunk either. Oh, what state are you in? I'm sick of AZ...& their BS about benzos being SO bad for you. I will be moving back east. The antidepressants gave me terrible side effects...so, it's BS. Valium saved me from not having a life...& it didn't give me dementia, etc. It's CONTROL from the damn government. I have a friend in SC that has NO problems getting them from his PCP...& a friend in CT. No problem getting them. Xanax in their case too. Xanax actually gives me blackouts....so I take Valium. It works the best for me. Yeah, I cant fall asleep without my Valium. What did Geezer say? Very curious. He was awesome in his day!! I played in a pickup band, & the bass player...& older guy, said his daughter is married to Geezer Butler.

Copeland is a very underrated drummer. In high school (shortly after Bonham died), the debate was Peart vs. Copeland.

@@DystopiaTonight I think this is up there - when Stuart talks about the losses of some inspirational drummers it’s really sobering - I’ve never seen quite the reaction on social media to Taylors passing - felt even more impactful than the loss of some other great musicians in recent years in terms of attention and we have lost far to many great musicians - the legacy that these people leave is just unbelievable
