Artist: Neil Sedaka / Song: Solitaire
Neil Sedaka performs the song "Solitaire" in Canada in 1981.
LYRICS
There was a man
A lonely man
Who lost his love
Through his indifference
A heart that cared
That went unshared
Until it died
Within his silence
And solitaire is the only game in town
And every road that takes him
Takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire
And keeping to himself
Begins to deal
And still the king of hearts
Is well concealed
Another losing game comes to an end
And he deals them out again
A little hope
Goes up in smoke
Just how it goes
Goes without saying
There was a man
A lonely man
Who would command
The hand he's playing
And solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him
Takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire
And keeping to himself
Begins to deal
And still the king of hearts
Is well concealed
Another losing game comes to an end
And he deals them out again
And solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him
Takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire

Well I just checked and Neil is still with us today in June '24 and only 12 years older than I am . Since it seems like he was part of my youth from the time I got my first transistor radio I am so glad to be able to say thank you Mr Sedaka for a lifetime of wonderful music. Much pleasure would have been missing from my life had you not been there .

I saw him in Niagara Falls at the casino in roughly 2012. He had his son on with him for a couple of songs. And coincidentally, one of the musicians playing was from the Blood, Sweat & Tears band, and David Clayton Thomas (also from BS&T) was in the audience. Great show, even though he's getting up in years. Still he has loads of energy.

I was there at the beginning of his career, but didn't get to see him live until the last 80s or early 90s. If he had followed the route of Dick Clark's tours in the late 50s and early 60s, I think he would have become more popular much sooner. He had a tough road doing it on his own, until he met Elton John, which shot him into the universe. Well deserved. Neil certainly earned his place in music history.
