Neil Trundle talks about his life in F1

Neil Trundle is a former Chief Mechanic for the McLaren F1 team. He is best known for being the chief mechanic for F1 drivers Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost but has a wealth of experience at the cutting edge of Formula 1 over many years.
He also co‐founded Rondel racing with a certain Ron Dennis and would later rejoin him for an epic stint at McLaren after running his own Formula 3 team in the early 80s. His career at the pinnacle of F1 took him around the World with the greatest drivers and he has a resulting treasure trove of memories and motor racing stories to tell.
Neil has been a long‐term member and friend of the Brooklands Members and this evening he will be in conversation with F1 fan and talks organiser, Steve Clarke.

Steve Cropley Steve joined Wheels Magazine (Sydney) in 1973 before moving to CAR (London) in 1978 becoming Editor in 1981. Steve Launched Buying Cars in 1989 which was later sold to Haymarket Publishing in 1991. Since then Steve has been working for Haymarket motoring group as Editor-in-Chief. Steve is also Columnist and reporter for Autocar and carries out various assignments for Autosport, What Car?, and F1 Racing. Steve helped instigate a postgrad auto journalism MA course at Coventry University in 2004. Steve was appointed visiting professor, automotive journalism in 2004.

Great interview, and interesting hearing the Goodwood story. About 10 years ago I went there with my then girlfriend and some motor racing mates. She got chatting to Neil who'd promised to let her sit in one of the cars, but had to wait as the number 1 mechanic wasn't around. She asked if she could then sit in the other one (Heidfelds MP4/13 that he was demo'ing again), at which point he went "You've got beautiful hips", and then excused himself. It was the only time in her life that shes been speechless, as Neil had managed that impossible thing; To say to a woman that she had a slightly big bum (she doesn't, though compared to the tiny Quick Nick, who knows...), and turn it into a compliment at the same time.
