He's a poet of sounds and words. He's the only artist that i feel the same pleasure of hearing the music along with the Beatles. I'll hear him until i die. I'd love to meet him.

@@johngoodridge3528 Neil was going to skip long may you run in his 1993 mtv unplugged set list because it didn't feel right with the audience. But Nils Lofgren who was playing with him convinced him to continue it as it too was his favorite. This was actually the second time doing the unplugged concert. My favorite from that one was the Old Laughing Lady, which is coincidentally another way of saying death via addiction or whatever you want to tie it to. This and Will to Love from stars 'n bars album are my favorite. Will to love was never performed live, said it was too personal and it had an actual fire crackling in the background.

Fan of Neil Young way back in the early 70's. In my high school yearbook 1971 I wrote "favorites are snow, sunshine and CSN+Y." Lost track of his music over the years, but ever since I heard him sing Harvest Moon on Dinner Party Music station on Alexa three months ago, a day doesn't pass without listening to him. Nobody can touch his lyricism. It's his music I go to sleep by. The music I play at work. The music I cook by. Musical genius.

War?
@blackcrow70494 жыл бұрын
Maybe . Neil Young never say anything about that . I read in a book that could refer to numbers who were engaged in hunting those who had refused to entlist for war (one member for family) and were relentlessly sought by '' hunters of reds'' . They climbed the rivers in a white -painted boats with a big red lantern . What isn't very clear is when after they make the first shot , the boy raises his rifle but maybe not to shoot them , but to commit suicide , apologizing for it (last part of Powderfinger). The song was written originally for Allmand Brothers , but Neil decided to record it for Rust Never Sleeps . Of course it's only my opinion .
@Therenegadeaussie4 жыл бұрын
This has been bugging me for days now since I saw your comment Nicolas! I agree that the posthumous last verse seems to imply that he pulled the trigger on his rifle and killed himself. But it's not clear. He is certainly regretful. The line "Cover me for the thought that pulled the trigger" is ambiguous. "Cover me" is not a turn of phrase that means "forgive me" to me - but maybe it does to others? The verse up to his death uses the phrase "raised my rifle to my eye" which is more of a shooter's term than a suicide term. Practically, it seems more likely that he was shot by a man at the rail on the boat. Would it even be possible with the length of an 1860s or earlier rifle to shoot yourself in the eye? (I don't know much about guns).
@Therenegadeaussie4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, it's actually "Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger." Then same comments apply though - if anything it's a little more ambiguous.
@blackcrow70494 жыл бұрын
You are welcome Therenegadeaussie . We can begin with the meaning of ''cover me ...'' ; for me it's a sense of protection ''protect me '' regardless it's a suicide or not . I suposse the decision of 'pull the trigger' it's not easy to make it (with the rifle turn to you or turn to other person) , 'forgive me' as you said is another good way to say it . I'm not a hunter (and any intention to be one) but a hunter always places the rifle leaning heavily against his shoulder to prevent recoil ; nobody directs the rifle towards his eye (only to commit suicide) but one-eyed to the crosshair of the rifle to aim . Anyway I don't know if the hunters have their own words to refer the fact of pointing to something . In 2017 , Young released 'Hitchhiker' álbum (a lost álbum that it was recorded in 1976 but never released) , one of the recordings it was Powderfinger , before Neil gave the song to Steve Van Zandt (Lynyrd Skynyrd not Allmand Brothers as I said wrongfully on mt first comment) , but Steve died on a crash and he never recorded the song , and Neil recorded for his 1979 álbum Rust Never Sleeps . In this 2017 Hitchhiker álbum , Powderfinger has its own video clip for first time but the video doesn't provide the outcome of our own interpretation . I tried to discover if Neil participated in any way in the making of the video but I think not , it was all done by Warner Music Video and audiovisual company Black Balloon , that is , nothing new .

Yeah he’s melancholic ….not always but my favorite performer was effing depressant! My Bob Dylan. Fueled my depression and I finally figured out if I was gonna heal I had to give him a break. I put every thing I had over the 35-40 years I. A box and tied it up with knots and thick rope. Not a symbolic act. A final act. Now I’m fine but it’s soooo nostolgic I limit myself a lot! Same on Neil. Fueled my depression. Well….a lot of things did really. So no news for me and I avoid dreary dark entertainment. It’s really hard to get around it all! At 71 I’m kinda bummed I am human. I struggle with human nature including some of my own and the I just say oh eff it I don’t have to be some perfect thing and life certainly isn’t a perfect thing ( why do I think it could be?). It’ll be here when I’m long gone the dreary trudging lacking real meaning except moments. Enough to torment you that they are few and far between and repeat all the same mistakes in new and more perverse ways. However since im making the best of it anyway Im content. Just have no denial. Oh and I love you Neil!

Whenever you feel down, remember the good times & great memories that only you have, unless you share them with family & friends, or even strangers. I just love a really good story. My grandmother was born and raised in Texas. She passed in 1999 at 92. She used to tell me stories about growing up right outside of Corsicana. There are only farming fields there now, but I know that there was once a small town ( & railroad) there named Pinkston. I betcha most people that live there today don't know that, but I do because she told me all about it. I was also born in Texas and raised everywhere (army brat) I now reside in Alabama. I imitate him extremely well,but I was influenced by the one & only DIVA OF DIVAS-ANNIE LENNOX WITH HER INCOMPARABLE PERFECT VOICE. ARETHA did not sing with just anyone.
