Thanks to Jovana for bringing your reaction to my attention, since she is aware of what a huge Neil Young fan I am, along with also enjoying your reactions. I am very touched that this song had such an impact on you Dominika. When you said that "he took me to that place" it confirmed my belief that Neil's music has the unique ability to do just that. It has done that for me for many years now. I was 17 at the time this concert was recorded in 1977, which was also the year I first heard it on his studio album "American Stars N' Bars". Neil is one of the most expressive guitar players around, packing his solos full of emotion, so I was thrilled that you listened to it again. Both his guitar and lyrics can take you to another place in time and space that is hard to express in words. I am glad you reacted to this live version, although you will want to add the studio version to your playlist for its superior audio and vocal quality.

If you can find Neil’s 2018 FarmAid performance in Hartford Connecticut, you won’t be disappointed. His band was Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real that night. Lukas is Willie Nelson’s son. The full set is on the FarmAid you tube channel I believe. Willie’s other son Micah has been performing with Neil and Crazy Horse over the last few months. They’ve been playing venues like the Roxie.

Hi guys, as a huge, lifelong Neil fan, it was absolutely terrific sharing this first listen with you - your reactions are always genuine and thoughtful, and this one is no exception. As others have said, Neil may not be the most technically proficient guitarist, but he is definitely one of the most expressive. He once explained his sound with Crazy Horse this way - he thinks of the songs as a picture, the drums make up the top and bottom of the frame, the bass is the sides, the second guitar is the canvas, and Neil and his guitar (named 'Old Black') paint a picture in the middle. Domenika, I can see that this particular painting really moved you - thank-you for sharing that with us all. I can't wait to see you try more Neil - I would recommend 'Down By The River' for more electric Neil, and 'Harvest Moon' for a glimpse of his soft, acoustic side. Peace and love from Canada!

I just found your channel and I love it. Great job. This guitar solo is so evocative and psychedelic it can take you to deep hidden places unexpectedly and for someone not used to this kind of improvisation it must have felt even more powerful. I do recommend the song “Ripple” by Grateful Dead, it’s very mellow and folky with beautiful and meaningful lyrics. A lyric video is best. I know you two will love it. Thanks for the warm and honest reactions and commentary.

It's something about that guitar playing over that relentlessly haunting synthesizer in the background that gives the song a certain magical kind of whimsey that kinda hits you in the feels. So I totally get your reaction. This is one of my all-time favorite Neil Young songs. On your own try the studio version and or the live "rust never sleeps" version. Both superior versions imo.

Love this reaction. I've seen hundreds of acts live through the 70's up to now and I'll take the good old days of Neil Young and Crazy Horse over them all. Not really for comparison sake (no reason to compare the great bands) but just for personal preference of getting washed over with the total package. As a guitar player, there was nothing like jamming this and other Neil songs with the guys in the band for an hour at a time. Not for any listeners (probably would have drove them out of their minds 🤣) or practice, but just for the jam with the band.

@@LeeKennisonYou're very welcome. I just knew you had to see this and I was lucky enough to know where to find you, even though I know you would have eventually found it by yourself. Anyway, I was just listening to this song for the second time and Dominika is completely right. It takes you somewhere and you feel nostalgic, even sad. It almost made me cry too this time. And I'm talking about the guitar. Also, that feeling that the guitar gave me, really badly reminded me of some other music/band/song I've heard but I cannot remember what it was, I just know it wasn't Neil and that it made me feel quite uncomfortable because of that melancholic sound. Btw, feel free to write your comment under the reaction and educate Andrei and Dominika about Neil. They are reading comments and they like to be educated, especially if they liked what they had heard. I'm telling you this because I'm not sure if they read comments inside the comments. I suppose they do, but I'm just not sure and also if there is someone who can talk about Neil, it's you. 😊 I'm glad you liked this and it touched you. I knew it would. And I'm really happy if this brought some enjoyment to you. 😊

So it's like 1977. I've been a Neil fan for a year or two. A big fan!! Even started wearing my hair long and red flannel shirts :). Me and my girl making out in her basement. Her name is Jerri. A very cute blonde. Anyhow, it's Saturday night, late. The music show Midnight Special is on TV. I hear the host say Neil Young. My ears perk up. I rise up from a passionate kiss. What!!?? Neil Young??!! Holy smokes! Neil NEVER does shows like this. Uh, excuse me honey but it's Neil and I really have to see this. Lo and behold it's this very song and this very video!! Never heard it before. Imagine my reaction. Sat there absolutely mesmerized, hypnotized and paralyzed. I took that trip with him on that hurricane. I was Lost in the Sauce!! Perhaps your reaction was due to nostalgia and the yearning to go back just one time and experience those good memories. I get nostalgic a lot and if the song hits me just right, cry a little also. Your husband is a sweet, empathetic man. He felt your sadness deep in his soul. Neil has a huge catalogue. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame sometime in the 90s. Jerri broke up with me the next day ... jk.
