For Hashimoto's, KETO + Intermittent Fasting is the Way

@@leahdarley2565 I have Hashimotos also, and I eliminated a lot of foods I very much enjoyed -- especially in the carb area, like Italian foods, etc. I simply look at the sacrifice this way . . . which would I rather have: a temporary pleasure with lots of irritation, inflammation, and pain following . . . or be relatively pain-free. The question pretty much answers itself, with the pain seenmg to dictate the answer.
@leahdarley25653 жыл бұрын
@@russmaleartist I have already eliminated a lot of foods. I really don't eat carbs and I haven't since about 2011. My gut doesn't like dairy or eggs. The egg part is really hard to do without. I don't have pain associated with my Hashi. I really struggle with the weight coming off. I would like to lose about 20-25lbs but at this point I would take 15. I just started taking meds early this year so the functional med dr I'm working with is still adjusting my dosage to get it optimal.

Thanks to both of you for sharing this, so happy for you Neisha! and it gives hope to us other Hashi patients. Hashimoto's is so misunderstood and despairing! I have been unable to find adequate help for decades now and have tried so manuy things and so many different kinds of doctors. I cannot find a functional doctor who knows anything about all of this in Italy. So now I am without a doctor and without meds, and mostly feeling exhausted, drained and depressed, overweight and all the rest we know of sypmtoms. I keep self educating myself with books and online. I am currently being extremely strict with the keto diet and if I can now do 17 hours daily. It's been over a month but nothing has happened yet. I am still trying and hoping...I am 49 and have insulin resistence on top of Hashimoto's, EBV, chronic fatigue, fybromialgia, adrenal fatigue, and other things I have been told without finding relief. the worst is the depression and the exhaustion, which just go hand in hand. I really hope if I stick to it something will happen...

My labs for pretty much everything were abnormal since I was 12 years old. PCOS, IBS, insulin resistant, high cholesterol, couldn't control my weight. I was so inflamed. Went through this and following a "health" diet with lots of whole grains and fruits and veg and was never full and kept getting sicker and fatter. 3 years into keto my labs are perfect and I am 28. First time in my life.

I stumbled upon an early type of functional medicine MD in Austin (Dr. Ron Manzanero) more than 20 years ago after I was so sick with hypothyroidism that I could not get out of bed and he met with me for over an hour. He wrote on his prescription pad and handed me the note: "never allow a doctor to determine how you feel." I sat there and cried like a baby. I began my healing journey that day and am now a spit fire who gets shit done every day. I am 55 with no arthritis, etc. I would add to what my good MD wrote on his prescription pad: "never let your lab results drive how you feel or how you heal!"

@@lindasunderlin6936 we consulted with some top Texas lawyers and MDs. they said we would have no valid case because while he had me under and he hacked out half my thyroid he found a "nodule" (non cancerous) so I was advised to be grateful he found it ... meanwhile I later learned that MANY women have harmless thyroid nodules. This is great news Neisha! Congratulations! I’ve been on levothyroxin for about 7 years. On a ketogenic diet for a year with IF and 24-36 hour fasts at least twice a month. My goal is to get off the medication and at times want to just stop taking it to see if I’ll feel ok. My recent labs came out good ( not as good as yours though) but I had taken the levothyroxin that morning of the blood draw (2:00 pm) in a fasted state . My doctor still says I need to be on this medication for the rest of my life! You’ve inspired me to try out carnivore despite the fact that I’ll miss my nuts and salads. Thank you for sharing. I don’t want to be at the mercy of prescription drugs.

That’s great that you are able to go off of thyroid meds! Our whole family, husband, 6 kids, and I have Hashimoto’s. I went for years without a diagnosis. Even after I suffered a miscarriage and the doctor ran thyroid labs with a resulting TSH over 6, at the time the lab showed a TSH of 10 or under as normal, I was told my thyroid was fine! I’m glad that most doctors know better now and more labs have lowered the normal range for the TSH but you still have to have your own knowledge because still too many doctors have little education when it comes to thyroid health.

Thank you for posting about Hashimoto's and how your diet has improved your health. I started keto 12/4/2019 and need to lose 50 lbs. I'm halfway there. I wish I could show you the difference it has made already in my body. My face especially around my eyes was always swollen. Now it isn't. Im pretty sure I suffer from insulin resistance because the belly fat is not budging much. I'm currently trying IF, can make it 12 hours without snacking but when I try to do 20 hours I find I need a snack before then. I'm not giving up though. I also found that stress caused me to eat and crave the bad carbs. Being on keto is the only time I've ever been able to lose any weight at all. Wish I had tried it a long time ago. I'm also post menopause. I became menopausal at age 39. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's at age 35. I now 58.

Had a TSH of 3.5 but symptoms as if it was at least 25 (sleeping 12-16hrs per day, immense swelling - ankles ballooned to the same size as my thighs, grape sized tumor in my thyroid and tones of others issues). Done gluten free, Whole30, AIP but it's keto that started improving my symptoms. I'm just at the beginning of the journey so videos like this are really informational and can help with motivation. Still long way to go but at least I'm moving the right direction.

Emily can you please tell me how your diet looks like exactly....Do you use supplements for micronutrients? What kind of fat do you use for cooking... olive oil, butter? And what about spices? I'm sorry for peppering you with all these questions, but my mother is suffering very much from this condition.

Good for you. I am anxious to see my A1C later on this month as I have been very good on Keto for 6 weeks so far and fasting 16 hours. So far I am down about 13 lbs. too. Yay for me!

I’ve also been keto for a little over a month and I was previously controlling it with metformin with a A1C of 6.9 since keto I stopped taking it on my own and my blood sugars have yet to be over the 90’s even after eating. I’ve also lost weight but I don’t step on the scale because it’s more important to me the way I feel! Congratulations to you!

Remember your A1c is a record of your blood glucose for the past 3 months and will take time to reduce.

Because of you and Dr. Berry, I have started Keto. I also have Hashimotos. I have been doing it for a couple of weeks now, have lost weight and feel great! Thank you so much for sharing your story!!!

Fantastic! Just started carnivore a week ago and am looking forward to improvement in Hashi's soon. Tried AIP and made some progress *mostly weight loss* so I am hoping zero carb works better. This video was super helpful.
