Have you ever seen a 1200 HP 260 ci LS engine full throttle and full load run for 5 minutes? I think not! Would you repeat again for a total of 12 Runs? Well that's what Tom's customer required of his new design of boat engines! This is a totally new engine design for NRE. A future video will describe this engine's unique build. Stay tuned to the NRE channel.

This should be the engine builder challenge. Can your 1000 hp engine run wide open for 5 minutes.

The gauge towards the end of the run said 764hp when he was holding 7k rpm. So this was most likely on the lowest setting

@Steven Ross-watt Agreed. A 5-min wide open test is kind of useless for most racing (except apparently boat racing, which makes sense). I would not be surprised if IMSA racecar engines would fail this test, and they are some of the more reliable race engines (because of the duration of IMSA races I reckon).
@ray_collins
@ray_collins 5 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of endurance engine builders that dyno at those levels for hours. If you're doing stuff like Baja, NASCAR, or Offshore Endurance, you really will be running WOT for minutes (or hours) at a time, for a whole day, and then again the next week. Then again, those engines are way bigger than 260ci.

Seeing all the other engines combinations you have built I was confident this one would pass the five minute test. Boat engines take a beating especially in rough water where the prop loads and unloads when the boat grabs air. I think the boat this engine will go in will be a force to recon with. Nice work!

Not only that, boat V8’s typically spend most of their life above 3500rpm. Where as your truck cruises along at 1500rpm for most of its life.

Turbos in those jet-boats don't really work that well, it might be that all-or-nothing peaky power delivery...something...the jets typically work better with the positive displacement superchargers.

What do you mean water cooled headers?
@ericb065
@ericb065 5 жыл бұрын
@@waynebollentin989 Literally the headers have water jackets in them. Make up for the lack of air flow inside the hull where the engines are usually stuffed.
@waynebollentin989
@waynebollentin989 5 жыл бұрын
@@ericb065 what part of the video do you see water jackets in those headers. The reason water cooled headers are used on some boats is for noise mostly and where heat is a problem like on a normal inboard motor setup. The header coming of the motor needs to be hot to spin the turbine within the turbo. I do not see anything on the heaters coming from the head on the motor to the turbo. Please time mark where you see these water jackets. Thanks
