Nerd isn’t kidding when he says moving in a single file line is a bad idea. It just makes the slowest person an easy target for predators. During the Great War, men were getting picked off regularly by packs of wolves on the Eastern Front. It got so bad that the Germans and Russians called a truce at one point just so they could exclusively hunt the wolves on their respective sides of the line. Wolves absolutely will drag you away and rip you apart if they perceive you as slow or weak.

De-icing is only for the cockpit windows, engine inlets, spoilers and control surfaces. The passenger window do not effect the pilot's ability to fly the plane. So they don't have electrical resistance (which would take a heavy toll on the plane's generators or have the heavy plumbing if bleed air is used instead. The outer windows being in contact with the -40°C outside will make this very inefficient too which is why plane windows have a big gap in the first place between outside and inside. The same applies for outside fuselage and the inside of the cabin, the gap is insulation because air doesn't transfer heat as good as metal and will not add weight.

No, no, see, it's like this: If any part of a gun is the slightest bit damaged in any way, the entire thing is utterly useless. Neeson throwing the gun away is completely realistic. As for leaving the plane, these are actually metal grey wolves, whose power grows in proximity to metal structures like plane wreckage. Making for the treeline makes perfect sense in this context, as trees are the ultimate weakness of metal grey wolves. As for having all the tools they could possibly need and not using them properly, well, that's obviously irrelevant because the wolf attacked them while they were still in the planning stage, thus rendering all resources completely pointless for the rest of time. Going through the woods in the dead of night while surrounded by potentially hundreds of wolves you can't see is just sheer badassery, and anyone who questions it is clearly not a real man. Burke was just too weak to survive, so they told him to "sleep", knowing he'd pass peacefully in the night. The "rope on a tree" plan is just stupid by any means, especially considering they could easily have simply jumped off the cliff, falling hundreds of feet into the water below, and been absolutely fine. The movie significantly suffers from this point on.

I mean wolves would also never attack humans unless they felt cornered, were protecting their young or were starving. Predators go after easy meals. If a predator gets hurt hunting, it might be unable to hunt again and starve so ideally they hunt prey which cannot hurt it back. Humans can easily seriously injure a wolf in a fight even if the wolf wins the fight. This is why many predators do not go after humans unless desperate or threatened.
@andylaw3222

Liam's character here has developed a spiritual philosophy around death as it is implied he is one who takes lives, it is also his duty to comfort them as they cross to the other side, hence the petting of the wolf and his comforting of the dying man. It's something you develop after being responsible for many deaths, you look at things dying differently, somber and melancholic but something that eventually has to be done.

Okay my dad works for a group that does satellite programming for the faa. If the plane as a transmitter and an altimeter (which it does cause it’s larger than a bush plane) the second that plane drops below about 2000 ft (give or take depending on the region)an alarm sounds in the control room of the tower that is tracking that plane. Everyone know the second a plane goes below the base altitude and efforts immediately start to contact the plane and get emergency crews gathered. So they need to STAY BY THE PLANE

and to think, in a alternate ending that didn't sit well with test viewers, Neison won the fight, got up and walked away. it actually could have been so much stupider.

I was pretty young when i first watched this movie so i just tought the protagonist was cool and misterious being the best leader he could on a hopeless situation, but honestly the superior interpretation really is that he's unstable and makes choices based on how close to seeing, causing and finally experiencing death he can get. Poor workers 😂😂

I remember this movie because the trailer was misleading and when I saw it in the theater I was very displeased. The trailer made it seem like a cool survival type scenario (emphasis on survival) instead of a super depressing, plodding character drama. I wish we got that movie. I also wish they came up with a real reason why the survivors couldn't remain at the best spot of discovery, the plane.

I have a maddening Theory just simply put Liam Neeson in sacrificing these men to none other than the Irish goddess of death herself Morgan who is one of her favorite animals just so happens to be wolfs

I'm thinking the movie is Ottway's predeath dream. People talk of visualizing a variety of scenes before death. Ottway's perspective is him being cursed in purgatory for hubris. Also, it was a well made movie as all of the cast dies.

One reason I can think of for leaving the plane is the Dyatlov Pass incident but then you should only leave when the food runs out and you only have bodies left.

I was so mad when Henrick died for no reason, knowing he saw Ottway with the gun outside. Everyone who survived the crash probably could have made it if they hadn't followed Ottway but of course then the movie wouldn't have happened. But I didnt remember how ridiculous all of the bad decisions were when i first saw this movie. It really was one bad decision after the other. I knew Nerd was going to metion a #femur 😅🐺

My first thought after Liam said that everyone should leave the safety of the plane wreckage was “He’s a cannibal, isn’t he?”

Liam Neeson cannot die. I genuinely believe that he was rescued and used the Alpha Wolf's corpse as insulation, like a Tauntaun. In fact, his character has a strange similarity to the hero of Cold Pursuit.

Considering they're all surrounded by snow, whoever wrote in the "get away from the plane" business should get left in the tundra and told to wait for rescue without any landmarks or defining features from the air. The plane is the best hope of getting rescued because it's a fresh landmark that doesn't belong in a vast sea of white snow, so long as it isn't set to explode. If it is, try to find shelter as close to the site without being in the blast range, or at least with a good set of cover. That's how I was looking at this from the problem presented. That's how I'd approach the scenario, if I had a clear head.
