A complete circuit hike through the 3,550 acre Nescopeck State Park, in Luzerne County Pennsylvania. Nescopeck features forests, wetlands, and the Nescopeck creek, and is noted for its impressive level of biodiversity and ever changing landscapes. Join me for a comprehensive look at the main attractions of the park, as well as discovering some of the lesser known nooks and crannies of this surprisingly scenic and somewhat lesser known state park in Northeastern Pennsylvania. #scenicpennsylvania #natureadventurediscovery

Thank you Hiker Dude Dad, nature and hiking is my outlet from this crazy world. Your comment put a big smile on my face, and yes it's true, being "out there" is truly my happy place. Out in nature is the time when I am truly the happiest and feel the most at peace with who I am...

After watching this great video I decided to head out to Nescopeck State Park on Sunday 8-21 and hike the same loop including the same trails as you did Walter and I totally agree with your observations of the area and its trails. It was so incredibly quiet once I cleared the lake trail and onto the Nescopeck trail. I didn't see another human the entire time after that. I did get lost after about a mile on the Creekside Trail after encountering two washed out wooden bridges that looked like they were victims of Spring creek flooding. I ended up deep in the woods and with 100% cloud cover the trails were very dark back there. I almost wished I had brought along a headlamp. It rained off and on and I tried different variations on the blue-blazed path once I realized that the part of the Creekside Trail I was on definitely wasn't the one you ended up on. The creek was very still and never transitioned into faster moving water and mini rapids. I decided I was four miles in and it was time to turn back so with the aid of my long ago Boy Scout skills and the All Trails app and downloaded Nescopeck trail map I was able to navigate back to where I initially got lost. The rain became more steady so I ended up heading back to the lake and eventually the car. I will definitely come back with a better plan and try it again very soon. Thanks again for sharing your adventures with all of us.

Thanks Greg for that detailed trip report! The trail that contained the really interesting rock formations and scenic stretch of the Nescopeck Creek was primarily on the Red Rock trail and I would encourage anyone to explore this trail on a trip to Nescopeck. The small PA State park trail map and guide provided at the visitor center - every state Park has its own brochure- is also an invaluable tool to have when on the trails. Pennsylvania does a smashing good job with these pamphlets that provide maps and detailed information about the trails and park history, geology, and ecology. Yes I observed the same washed out foot bridges myself but the water levels were so low I was still able to pass through those spots relatively easily. I'm really super flattered that the video encouraged you to head up there and see Nescopeck for yourself. I will be returning at some point as well as there are a few short isolated trails that are away from the park center that I am curious about. Thanks for the awesome comment!

We were just there on the motorcycle yesterday. Did you see the beaver dam in the lake? A fisherman said they're are a lot of beavers there although we didn't see them. Beautiful video.

No I missed out on the beaver dam unfortunately. By the time I got to Lake Frances I had been hiking and filming for hours and my focus at that point wasnt the sharpest that it could be. Very nice place Nescopeck is, really impressed me.

Another good one Walter! Questions: About how many minutes of video did you actually take to get down to this 18:48 video? How long did it take you to get from the hike to the finished video? What order would you put these activities in from most favorite to least favorite: Hiking in Nature, Filming, Editing, Construction. Finally, do you ever take pictures of places where you visit...or just video?
@WALTERZOLNA
@WALTERZOLNA Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions Ron! I filmed this on July 30th, so yea it took 3 weeks to get this one done, usually it takes me about 10 -14 days. I don't have an exact number for how many minutes of raw footage but I would estimate about 45 minutes to an hour. I am very conscious about video length and my goal is to aim for 15 minutes or less ideally. One of the conundrums I face all the time is that talking scenes use up alot of time. An into and outro for example may take up two minutes, but at an average of about 7 seconds a shot I could show like 15 - 20 clips in that same two minute span, so I am always wrestling with the idea of how many talking scenes to include in each video. I actually talk quite a bit during the hikes but tend to edit alot of that out= some people like a lot of commentary and information - as a creator, i like to use my filming, editing, and music to tell the story without actually speaking it, thats my personal preference. In terms of favorites- 1) Hiking - nothing can replicate actually being there, especially a new trail or location, I still have this child like excitement, every time Im heading down a new to me trail. 2) Editing - Editing process really allows me to tap into my creativity, I enjoy the mental stimulation 3) Filming - Filming allows/ forces me to slow down and look at the world around me in a more detailed and curious way, its given me a greater appreciation and perspective on the world around me. 4) Construction - I assume you mean my day job, this doesn't even belong on any list of things I enjoy. It's a cruel irony of life that I fell into a job that so ill suites my interests and passions in life. The best thing about it that I can say is that i get to be outside alot. Many things in my life have not turned out the way I had hoped or expected this chief among them... The thumbnail for the video is a photo I took on my phone, but in terms of really detailed photography, I have always found that to be a bit of an intimidating place for me. I think its all of the settings and terminologies that make it feel at times overwhelming. It is a discipline that I would like to dabble in at some point, in particular of course landscape photography and also astro photography.
