Normally, I don't consider it any of my business if people get married or not. But during this whole season, I was actually yelling at the TV "YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET FAR AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. GET OUT OF EACH OTHER'S LIVES AND MOVE ON." I became the kind of judgmental person I never thought I was capable of being, but the thing is, I know I was right. So I'm fine with it.

I feel like no one’s talking about Lisa literally assaulting him, like literal physical abuse was shown on screen

Brian is a battered man. I highly doubt that was the first time Lisa’s put her hands on him. It was NATURAL for her to do it. And on national tv. And he was barely phased. He’s used to it. No apology was given. He didn’t even request one. It was like “hey I’m pregnant” and we just forget the physical abuse that transpired??? I wouldn’t be surprised if she trapped that man

These people will air out their dirty laundry for the world to see, and yet still refuse to go to therapy.

Guys like Alex do like a challenge, it's just not the challenge of seeing themselves differently, it's the challenge of forcing a woman into submission. They like the idea of "taming" or reeling in someone independent and putting them in a more traditional role. Granted, I'm willing to let this be my shitty experience with men talking. Edit: not just my experience. Shoutouts to the girlies out there making men insecure just because they choose to exercise their autonomy.

When Roxanne said her bf is "so fucking annoying" it was so upsetting, why would you ever say something like that about your significant other?? I wish people thought more about what their words do to others, I'd be devastated

Netflix is really disappointing me with how they’re dealing with the very toxic/abusive altercations throughout the seasons of this show and on Love is Blind. Like I know they don’t care about their contestants but Jesus Christ, they could at least do the bare minimum to protect them from domestic violence/abuse.

Roxanne would be miserable to work for. You can tell she wouldn't understand simple concepts like needing off for a death in the family, court summons, jury duty, being in the ICU. She'd be in the ICU room to yell "the grind never stops" at you while you're in a coma. Not recognizing that it's her grind, not yours.

Larry was the REALEST ONE in this whole season!! That is a man who loves his wife and wants to hold his kids/their partners to the same standard. "Would you marry yourself" is honestly such a great question and my partner and I were cheering for him that whole interaction 👏

Roxanne really had me thinking Antonio was a straight bum and turns out he’s starting a business and was waiting for a deal to close

For people like Alex, the challenge is getting someone like Roxanne to become like Kat for him. It's not the banter and sharing of opposing views, it's controlling somebody who seemed to strong and sure of themselves.

When I say my jaw was on the floor throughout Lisa's tantrum. She really put her hands on that man then went on a vile, degrading tirade towards Riah so by the time she announced that she's "pregnant" I couldn't help but feel like she was just lying to get out of the show and keep Brian tied down. Her and Roxanne were awful representations of boss women.

this was the most obvious “no one here is ready for marriage” season. maybe except for trey and ryann but everyone else 🫠.

Lisa disappointed me so badly with the "hooter's bitch" and other denigrating comments towards Riah. It was to the point that when Lisa "needed" to leave later on in the show, I thought it was a hoax and her supreme insecurity was just trying to keep Brian from Riah.

I feel like im getting a headache from everyones names being too similar. So Riah is into James who was dating Ryann but shes also into Bryan?! Help 😂

I don’t know about cheating but my theory about Lisa is that she brought Brian in there hoping he either wouldn’t find anyone/or get jealous of guys talking to her and wanna leave. And when that clearly wasn’t gonna happen she got mad. 😂

Between Antonio and Roxanne I think he was probably more confident before meeting her. I think she plays a MAJOR role in him being the insecure crying man we see on TV who feels like he isn’t enough because in his relationship with her she’s constantly reminded him that he isn’t. She’s toxic in the way that she brings him down instead of building him up and if she feels he’s so beneath her then she needs to stop making him hate himself and just find someone else more on her “level”

Comment on high school couples eventually getting married: I've seen it work out a few times, and in every case it's because they each had a lot of space to develop on their own as adults. They went to different colleges (sometimes considerably long-distance), usually didn't live together until their early twenties/after undergrad. They also weren't so focused on staying together at all costs (one couple I know took a break for two years and got back together), it just kept working out so they kept a good thing going.

To the question “would you marry yourself?” My answer is immediately “no” and that’s not a bad thing. I’m disorganized, forgetful, sometimes lazy, and occasionally impulsive. I need someone who is not those things. If I married a copy of me we’d end up divorced because we’d drive each other nuts.

The fact that someone issued an ultimatum to Roxane makes me believe that I too can get married 🙏

Pregnancy in an unhealthy relationship can be common for so many reasons. Like sometimes a guy purposefully tries to get his partner pregnant so she can't leave, sometimes someone will try to get pregnant to who they are with won't leave, sometimes there is an extreme lack of boundaries or conversations surrounding pregnancy that makes them simply less careful about getting pregnant. I just hope in this situation the pregnancy isn't a pawn in a game for one of them, I hope they are somewhat prepared to deal with the situation.

Lisa and Brian were shockingly toxic, it was so fast. I got vibes that he’d cheated on her before which was why she was trying to force him into marriage and hoped that she would be able to make him jealous enough to propose. When that didn’t work out, she got violent with him and was absolutely nasty to someone else who was just in the same experience as she was. Her pregnancy seemed sus and their dynamic makes me concerned for their child.

This season had me truly conflicted. I was disturbed and bored at the same time watching these couples.

Everyone is toxic. Everyone is desperate. Everyone is annoying. Bring me the drama 🎭

Pet theory is they found Lisa & Bryan early in the casting stage and went “oh THERE is our crazy, let’s build some basic people around them and watch it burn” and didn’t realize that she was the kind of crazy that hits her guy on camera and has a convenient positive pregnancy test and he’s willing to duck out of this and just keep coasting. So then we got decent but unexciting in the editing sense rest of the season because their teaser/headline generators dipped

Regarding the bed/air mattress thing Let's not forget that it's also very valid for couples to want to have their own rooms and space. Thid works for a lot of people who prefer to have the option to share beds or not. It does not take away from the validity of the relationship (obviously for this show it is a little counter-productive unless he was planning on doing this arrangement).

every season, I notice the same patterns with quite a few of them: they don't want to get married because they love that person and want to spend the rest of their life with them. they're just trying to check off the marriage box in these timelines they think they have to follow bc society says they have to

I used to be married to a guy like Alex. Couldn't quite my finger on why, after 7 years of marriage, I felt completely lost and numb. I've experienced scarier situations in my life with scarier people, but that marriage just broke my spirit down almost completely. Very happy I escaped. Even now I have a hard time explaining and even parsing exactly what and how everything happened. It was insidious.

i dated a guy that was vaguely condescending and it was always so difficult to put into words the exact transgressions against me. It was just like every conversation felt *off* and left me feeling slightly uncomfortable after, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly what.

Yeah the way everyone keeps saying Riah doesn’t like TREY specifically as the reason she doesn’t want to marry is upsetting like no one has listened to what she says. She went through something tragic when pregnant 2 years ago with Trey, who even knows this but continues to press the kids thing, she is only 24 and wants to explore and wants to have and do things for herself that she was never able to have or experience growing up. Trey is 28 and ready he has his life together already. It’s not her not liking him at all, she’s YOUNG she’s had a hard time and she she’s scared that doing everything now will stop her from ever doing anything she wanted since settling down will make you busy. It’s frustrating everyone keeps talking down on her when almost everyone else here is 30ish and acting immature…

I found you because of the Ultimatum S1 bc my husband watched to calm his nerves the week he proposed 😂 so this feels like a full circle moment bc we just celebrated 8 months of marriage! And he knew I'd say yes because within the first 5 weeks of dating (we were friends first) we talked about life goals, kids and marriage and decided together to get married through✨️communication✨️

I think it’s such an interesting reflection about Antonio replacing things he used to abuse to numb himself with the relationship with Roxanne! I felt like Roxanne has become Antonio’s identity which is maybe why he struggled so much to accept any of what Alex was saying, because it threatened his identity not just his relationship?

Am I only one that thinks that the people who would want to take their partners on this show are like kinda icky?? Like it just all seems so manipulative to me and if you need to do all this maybe y’all shouldn’t be together 🤷‍♀️

I feel like bc Trey is ready to get married, it could have been anyone. It seems like Riah maybe a trophy, so her feelings, thoughts, etc don't matter to him. This was the first season I actually watched. And while I love, love, this show made me appreciate being single.

This season was sooooo boring and was paced way too fast! They barely gave us any time with each of the trial marriages and I don’t think a single couple should have stayed together ! It’s like they needed a season where the ultimatum actually ‘worked’ so they can keep getting couples to sign up.

Alex comes off as having a superiority to himself. He feels or views himself superior so when he says he likes how she "challenges" him it's more in sense of like the challenge of breaking a horse, or a badly behaved puppy.

I thought this season was sooo boring... I feel like when the preggo couple left they realised the messiest messiness was gone so they were grasping for straws and tried to milk out drama that wasn't there. The producers definitely prompted Alex to talk to Antonio about Roxxane to have sth kinda messy.

I highly recommend watching the French ultimatum if you want to watch it just for yourself, they really have such a different approach culturally for the whole experiment. Their trial partners are not really romantic rather platonic friendships that help figure things out, in the best cases.

they don't have any therapists on these shows but Bad Girls Club did? That just shows how horrible they are

When Kennie allows herself fun, she fertilizes her imagination and later, when she gives herself the right amount of pressure; (in that space between anxiety and stress) comes comedy, creativity and the fruits of her labors. Wicked.

I feel like this season was messy... but not so much in a fun or even entertaining way. Just a bunch of people I felt like really shouldn't get married. Especially as some didn't even seem to like the other all that much. Also, all the talk about working/the grind reminded me of how annoying it can be to interact with anyone who makes one thing their entire personality. I've met some people who only ever wanted to talk about one (or a couple) thing and they'd get annoyed if the conversation strayed from their interests. Then they'd try to steer it back to something they wanted to talk about. I'm not always interested in everything someone is talking about, but, I at least try to continue the conversation. Maybe I'll learn something or be introduced to something new that might become a new interest. I've never understood being so closed off to even the idea of new hobbies or topics, lol.

Roxanne doesn’t look bad there’s just something very late 00s, early 10s about her makeup that keeps throwing me when she comes on screen.

When the couples switch back they should have them meet with a couple’s therapist together and a one on on therapist once a week. I feel like it’d add some real value to the show. 😅

its funny that James cried at the idea of Ryann being with someone who appreciates her, yet the very next day he's flirting with the idea of sleeping with Riah (?)

Would I marry myself? My first answer was "Heck no! Both of us being handicapped by autism would be a damned disaster!" but then I thought it through for a few seconds and came to the conclusion that actually; we would either be the worst couple, where nothing would get done and the house would be a mess OR we would be the best couple! Because we would both know of our handicap and would both be overly helpful because we know we have the same handicap! We would ask each other for help and we would do the helping because we know what it is like to need the help! Perfect!

As far as I've noticed, people who have been in a relationship since high school and stay together for years mostly do so because that's all they know, not because their love is so strong and deep (in some cases it could be, in most it absolutely is not).

So Lisa's clearly super insecure and wanting to push Brian into marriage and she had a total blowup at him for doing the show she brought them on and physically shoved him in the face?? I'm french canadian. In my culture, for most people, marriage is something you do for fun in your 30s or 40s after the house and the kids and years of a commited relationship. Lots don't even get married, like my parents and myself, because it's a crazy waste of money. Nobody's religious anymore, so what even is the point beside an excuse to throw a huge party? I'll never understand why marriage is still such a big and serious deal in american culture....

Gonna put in here as a person who married my first boyfriend; it works well if you are two people that are willing to actually grow together and respect each others needs. I think we are both different people than we were when we first met, but I think our core values were the same and we gave each other space to learn and make mistakes. Our communication was always the biggest pillar we built up, and that prevented a lot of issues I've seen others have in their relationships. We've been together for 13 years now and still strong :-) We also made a point to continue to see our premarital therapist long after we got married (non religious therapist even though we are both Christian because.....sometimes the church be churchin). Going even through the "good" times allows us to work on tools to use in the "bad times" while both being in a more open headspace. That is not to say that this is a path meant for everyone; I think I always was very sure about what I wanted and thus was incredibly choosy when it came to the character of the person I wanted to fully be in a relationship with. Being demisexual helped that a lot too probably......and I was just very blessed and lucky to find someone so early because a lot of these menfolk suck out here lol. I just wanted to give a case that yes, you can grow as a person and have personal development while being with your first love. After all, there are plenty of people who date a lot of different people and have plenty of experiences and still don't quite know who they are or what they want. If you can communicate well and have a partner that LISTENS, respects, understands what you're saying and can communicate at the same level as you, I think that's the key to it working out whether it's the 1st or 50th boyfriend.

My grandparents were together from high school to the day my grandpa died, over 60 years, and the two of them were always very open about how unusual that was, and how lucky they got.
