I wouldn’t consider him and underdog though he’s filthy rich and tried to run Johnny out of business in season 1, Johnny is barely able to afford to pay the bills while Danny boy has two houses and a collection of expensive vintage cars. But compared to Silver he would be an underdog.

And he used his enemy's weakness to perfection. It should have been easy-peasy for Silver to counter the crane kick. But having created so many enemies at a point where he needed as many allies as possible, he was neatly done in by his underestimation of Daniel's true superpower: relationships with smaller characters. Always look eye, indeed.

This is so poetic. Johnny and Daniel took on Kreese together because he had wronged and abuse them both. But taking down Terry silver was Daniel's fight. His moment to take down the guy who tormented him in the 3rd movie. Silver and Johnny didn't have the same history so I'm glad Daniel got the chance to take down silver. And he lost the first time against him cos silver was confident and had destroyed Daniel's will and hope and home life so Danny lashed out with rage. Here Terry is the one off balance cos he's nervous he just got exposed despite his bravado. Danny is composed and falls back into his Miyagi stance with a quote. That's why he won and Silver lost. It wasn't just a fight of skill- it was a fight of composure and balance.

@@rogergarrison4271 I think you're correct. While the series tends to ignore most issues of law in favor of moving the plot along (which is hardly unusual in any kind of action-oriented modern-day series, so that's not intended as criticism), Kreese assaulted a doctor and escaped from prison; even if you're innocent of the crime you're jailed for, you generally can't just break out -- that's a crime in itself. So I think Kreese will need to lay low, working behind the scenes with Kim. (It's also possible they'll handwave it with "Kreese got a really good lawyer who got the charges dropped in exchange for not suing the city over false imprisonment" as a blink-and-you-miss-it line of dialog in the first episode of S6. But I think Kreese in hiding has more dramatic potential, esp. if Tory finds out and keeps covering for him, adding conflict between her and Sam, Robbie, and Miguel. Gotta keep re-igniting old feuds! (Again, that's not a criticism; it's one of the premises you accept for the show.))

Love how fully focused Daniel is in this rematch, not allowing Silver's taunting to get to him. He combined what he learned from Chozen, Mr Miagyi and Johnny to battle Silver. Also using the Quicksilver techniques Silver taught him to embarass and defeat him just as Chozen advised him to do so. Silver was "teaching" Daniel the Quicksilver technique, but he was really physically injuring Daniel to make it easier to defeat him in the All Valley Karate Tournament. Silver didn't anticipate Daniel would use it in later years against him Daniel's wife Amanada, exposed Silver as he truly was, a low down snake who do anything to win and seize power, even resorting to cheating and dirty tactics. Silver didn't care if he ruined people's lives in his conquest for power and victory.

One of the reasons why Cobra Kai is such a great reboot/sequel and why so many franchises seem to be floundering right now is because the show honors its roots instead of trying to uproot and destroy what made the original works so special in the first place. In this moment, Daniel truly became the bonsai - a strong foundation (Mr. Miyagi's Miyagi-Do), but growing and branching out (the other side of Miyagi-Do, Eagle Fang, Quicksilver) to find his own way. I like to think Mr. Miyagi's spirit was watching all this and at the end said, "Daniel-san, you did it!" Then he turned around and walked/faded away, content that his favorite student/surrogate son had *finally* vanquished his demons, and that Miyagi-Do was equipped to survive into the future.

Thank goodness Daniel finally found balance again in offense and defense by blending what he learned and beaten Silver this time. Last time, Daniel got his butt kicked badly because of Amanda's major mistake in leaving Daniel, therefore, Daniel was emotionally lost and vulnerable which was so easy for Silver that all he had to do was manipulate the spouse and boom, an instant loss, meaning once Amanda refused to listen to Daniel about Silver and left him, Daniel lost to Silver before their first fight even started. This time with the support of Daniel's family and friends, he finds balance again and the tables turned; good thing Chozen came through as well as Mike Barnes being Daniel's ally. Further, Silver got exposed and was going insane like he's gonna murder anyone who dares to get in his way plus he's worn down by Chozen. To take down a villain like that, it had to take a lot. Good thing it's a turning point that Daniel finally put his painful past behind him and defeating Silver was the only way to finally put his demons away with the help of his family, friends, and students
@TheJFGB93
@TheJFGB93 Жыл бұрын
The only thing I disagree with from what you said is that Amanda made a "major mistake" leaving Daniel. They both needed the distance, because Daniel was blinded by his fear and hatred of Silver, while Amanda could not make sense of the situation because of a severe lack of context, which she got from her cousin Jessica, and she immediately changed her disposition towards the whole situation.
@devonhinckley2889
@devonhinckley2889 Жыл бұрын
@@TheJFGB93 perhaps but Amanda should have been more understanding to where Daniel is coming from. True that Daniel was blinded by his hatred for Silver, although it was due to that trauma coming back the moment Silver manipulated both him and Amanda, but he did have a good reason to hate Silver for it because he knew what that maniac was capable of and Amanda didn't. Kreese was one thing, but Silver was worse and he charmed Amanda, therefore, she refused to listen to Daniel and that made things worse for Daniel that without his wife by his side, he lost before the first fight started he almost got killed. This time with Amanda coming to her senses and being by his side, that's when Daniel wins against Silver. It's that simple and refusing to listen and understand the other spouse's side was the major mistake I meant

@@markelscott100 that might be true as well because he was afraid of what they both did to him as a kid earlier and it left a scar on him, plus he was ashamed of having been a cobra kai once for a short time because of Silver and Kreese. True that he could have at least told Amanda the whole truth about the damage they caused to him as a kid. Thank goodness Johnny, Chozen, and Mike Barnes are all on his side because they got past their whole rivalry with Daniel earlier, so they helped him get past it. Thankfully, it took Amanda's cousin who knew about the Terry Silver incident earlier to have Amanda see the truth and reality of the carnage Silver was capable of and thank goodness she came to Daniel's side after he almost got killed by Silver, that opened her eyes to the truth that Silver had to be stopped

@TatteredBiblePodcast

I don't think Silver was ever as benevolent as he appeared. If you watch Kreese's Flashbacks one thing stands out. Kreese started out as a normal, peaceful, loving man. He was then turned into a hardened warrior by his commanding officer who he killed because he "learned a lesson" which is that mercy is for the weak. Him and Silver become friends. At the time he's still a half way decent person as shown in Silver's season five flashbacks. He really cares about his students, especially Johnny, and he's good with children, think his relationship with Kim. However over the years his moral character erodes. Part of that is the style he was taught and its philosophy concerning life. However part of that is Silver. Silver is a manipulator and a sociopath. We see throughout Cobra Kai glimpses of the old Kreese coming out. Like when he tells Tory that she should win the fight her way. It's Kreese that told her that not Silver. Silver told her to fight dirty. Not Kreese. I think that Silver took on the persona of a benevolent business man for three reasons: 1. Cobra Kai was defeated in Karate Kid 3. His Karate Career was over. He had no students to manipulate because nobody would put on a Cobra Kai uniform. 2. Kreese disappeared. Silver was never able to fully pursue his Karate due to his father pressuring him to go into the family business. Silver instead lived vicariously through Kreese. He funded Kreese. He gave him a place for the dojo. He did everything he could to assist Kreese so that he could eventually live out his Karate fantasies. When Kreese disappeared that was gone. 3. After Karate Kid 3 people learned who he really was. Also he probably finally got caught for his shady business dealings. In order to get out of going to prison he probably had to make a deal signing over control of Dynatox to someone else and pay restitution. In order to fend off bad publicity he found another persona. He started a new company with his remaining money and he started charity work in order to clean up his public image. Doing so opened the door for him to twist and manipulate a whole new group of people. The only reason he came back was because Kreese came back. Had Kreese stayed gone Silver would've remained basically harmless. To help you understand better what I'm saying I'm going to link a video about a similar character in another franchise. It'll be in my next comment.
