The Q&A part is incredible, the synchronization of the team shows how much they are organized. Elon truly respect his employees, letting them have their due recognition in their fields, this is far from being the case for other companies. I haven't walked in 15 years. Just to be able to stand up and put on my pant would be amazing. Feeling if I'm ripping a toe off would obviously be beneficial as well! Once the brain begins interacting with a new pathway to the spinal cord, will the cord will actually regrow nerves? If so, can the implant in the spinal area be extracted?

one issue that was not covered was security. do we know or is there any information on how that is being managed? physical (impacts etc) electromagnetic (eg external forced heating/overload ) low level "hacking", higher level accuses control is assumed to be relatively simple.

I could imagine, for typing quickly, you could have the neura link prompt the user to go through a step where you teach it to read the alphabet from your thoughts. Similar to how we teach speech to text to recognize our voices easier, the software could take you through a process of thinking of different letters or words and take the data from Neuralink to teach itself how to interpret your typing by thought.

I had brain surgery in the 1990s. 🤯❗ My caretakers had to sign a liability form, so the hospital could use their state of the art, but not fully finished with testing neurological surgical tools, in order to give me a chance of living through it. It was some kind of LASER device, used in place of a scalpel, or for stopping the bleeding, or something. They scanned me with more super high-tech machines, that at the time, seemed like magic, they were so amazingly sophisticated. After coming out of a two-week coma, and a few months of rehab, I came to be grateful, and amazed at the technology at hand. Listening to this, and thinking back, it seems like a hacksaw amputation, in comparison. The possibilities, and the hope for the future, are inspiring, to say the least. Just wow.

It feels like Neuralink team is ushering in the next stage of human evolution.. this is really world-changing stuff! 🤯

Nobody has mentioned the potential for virtual person-to-person telepathy. If both people have an implant you should be able to send a message directly to the other implant and potentially hear the other person speaking in your mind.

For me the motor control, or the controlling of the pig's limb was the most impressive bit. The possibilities and applications of this are countless. It sort of makes me optimistic about future gaming (Which is my main stake in this) as well as assisting people who have disabilities. Thank you for sharing this information, I had thought that some of the promises//ideas/aspirations made in earlier day would take decades to come to fruition, but this update just proved that all the sci-fi type ideas we've been imagining are not that far off.

huh , you know how amazing it is to see this created ? As a child I always wondered if our body is controlled by electric signals from brain, if it would be possible to restore body capabilities for disabled people through usage of wires that would redirect electric signals to the intact nerves. I am glad that it always made sense and that we see it being brought to life. Not surprised that it was possible but still amazed that it was funded !

That some people will be able to see or walk again fills me with so much joy. I thankfully dont suffer from any ilnesses but knowing that people could regain these functions again is making me very happy. I wish there was no illnesses or disablities in this world.

I'm impressed with how far they've come with correcting for spinal cord injuries. I know of a girl who got into a sledding accident and partially severed her spine paralyzing her from the waste down (there was at least one other kid who actually died on that hill so I'm sure there's been some serious investigations into it). In her case (and many others) the actual connection for controlling the muscles is intact but the sensing connection is not (during the presentation they actually showed these two paths, the sensing path is on the outside where it's more likely to get damaged). Thanks to some good doctors, parents, and therapist she's actually learning to walk again even without being able to feel but there are obvious limitations and risk involved. Last I heard she could stand unassisted for an hour and she's actually in better shape than ever since she has to have very strong muscles to hold her steady (our brains usually use sensor feedback to keep us stable even if our muscles are tired and/or weak). I'm cautiously optimistic about this company as Elon has proven himself capable to starting very successful companies but he also has a tendency of over promising. I'm also going to need a lot of 3rd party research before trusting such a device, being able to move and feel in VR without a bunch of external cameras would be great, having my ability to speak switched off because of a billing error or because I spoke out against corrupt politicians (which as far as I can tell is all of them) not so great. When it comes to VR I think the most realistic approach in the (relative) short term would be to have the device handle movement and possibly sensor feedback (feeling) while having a lightweight headset provide audio and visual data). Reading and stimulating the visual cortex seems to be a far more complex task than reading data from the motor cortex and presumably sending basic feeling (touch, warmth).

Making stuff open source would rapidly increase how quickly this technology evolves. A huge reason as to why a lot of really useful technology doesn't move forward is because companies keep all files and data under lock and key so it becomes impossible for anyone to improve the technology and make it useable outside of a lab

another issue is that the original "idea" was a simple device with the heavy hitting being done off board. given the increase in on board processing for power and bandwidth issues have you considered splitting the device. a "thin client" IO module and a processing/power module. perhaps even as a light and full version. some possible advantages would be. shrinking the size of the hole in the skull having multiple IO implants per processing module. allowing different sized IO implants (it was implied that some uses cases only need ~1/10 of the electrodes than others) scaling of processing modules, larger flatter shapes in more ideal locations. move heat generation further away from the brain hardwired interface to the heaver processioning module. allow for dedicated(standardized) module types, eg sight, legs, etc

Good presentation as someone mentioned, the did a great job in distilling it down so anyone could understand it. I was disappointed that nobody asked a question about security of the devices and preventing attacks i.e. preventing people controlling other people. Also I'm sure this has applications in which they can control/train a Tesla bot for a multitude of tasks.

The neuralink seems like the perfect device for AR and VR. I wonder if they'll pursue those applications

Sight to the blind will hopefully be given gradually. That is a huge amount of processing for a person who's never experienced it before.

2 major problems I have with this device are: (1) Neuroplasticity: the brain is not a computer. It is a biological machine that is adaptive and eliminates and grows new synaptic connections. How are they going to be able to monitor synaptic changes in an aging brain? Especially in childhood to adulthood, your microglia prune about 20-30% of unnecessary connections. (2)Neuro-immunological consequences: your brain isn’t just neurons, they actually are the minority cell population in your brain. Most of your brain contains immune cells such as astrocytes and microglia. I’m not too sure how immune cells, which are incredibly sensitive, will react to a foreign invader such as a battery implant device like this. It’s going to be interesting how they can overcome immune cell reactivity, since this may have detrimental consequences if not addressed such as causing Neuro degradation. I’m very skeptical of this commercial neuroscience, I believe neuroscience should be kept on the clinical side for now.

Neuralink will make us all one, we could communicate with everybody and we won’t just text oder talk to each other wireless, we could also send our emotions how we felt in a special situation and we can also show situations like we have filmed it, we would EXACTLY understand each other because we can experience their life exactly like they does. Humanity would be on a whole new level.

The whole team of Elon is doing an amazing job, and we bow to them for the opportunity to return, and even get, vision, or regain control over the body ... it simply deserves all and praise. But about surpassing AI, you connect to the neural network and that, the speed of your thinking will not change, since it is limited by the speed of awareness and perception. And this is a biological limitation. In order to surpass or at least equal, you will need to completely transfer your consciousness to the processors. And even so, AI in any case will surpass us millions of times, since it does not need awareness, it will be initially prescribed by the algorithm.

I have neuropathy in both of my hands and both of my feet after a car accident. The pain is severe. It would be fantastic if you could correct it! Could this be used to cure neuropathy?

My mom went blind, she got an infection and it killed her optic nerve, her eyes are fine, the nerve is still there, just dead, it brings tears to my eyes how close she is to being able to see again if this thing works, I dont care what I'd have to do for her to be able to have one if that would give her sight back

There is an amazing amount of people there who are basically asking: "Can you give us your research and work for free, we don't intend to offer anything in return."
