Hey bro. The tip about the ball being off the front foot is slightly misleading. Once you couple that with the last tip, which is to open your body to the target, it basically moves the ball to be more in the back of the stance relative to your new body position. (The ball technically is still off your front foot since your front foot is still in a similar location at 90° from the pin to ball to foot, but once you open your body to target the impact position in your stance is further back, near your back foot) Especially once you open body which means you need to open the club face some, the risk to blading a shot across the green is much higher since the leading edge is raised if you haven’t adjusted the ball to be closer to off your back foot at impact. I’m not saying it can’t be done off the front foot, but the probability for your average golfer to hit a nice high shot cleanly has gone down and the risk of blading it has gone up. Maybe it’s just me, but I have a feeling most higher handicaps will struggle if they try to keep the ball near their front foot (relative to impact position)

ball forward, slightly open body and clubface, weight on front foot, swing down and left aggressively half back half through. Easy peasy. If you catch it perfect it'll come out low take one hop and stop dead.

Since I’m such a poor approach shot player, I have decades of experience from this distance. I have no issues. Unless there is a bunker in front of me, I can pitch anything on the green from 100 yds in. I almost never use anything more than a 50* wedge. Out to 100 I use gap, pw, 9, 8, depending on distance. If I couldn’t do that I’d shoot in the 90s. Excellent lessons here though. I remember 1 round where I only hit four greens in regulation and shot a 76. My entire game revolves around chipping and putting.

I think it really depends on the situation, if you want to hit a higher shot like a pitch or a flop maybe opening it up can give you more loft to land the ball at a steeper decent angle or move over an obstacle like an bunker. It all comes down to the type of shot your hitting, and the situation you are in, not opening the club face should be fine for a pitch if you have enough loft

Obviously there are a lot of variables to answer this question, but what degree is best for most situations at that 40-50 mark? I used to have a 58 degree, got rid of it and have a 56 and 60, and can’t find that sweet spot yet with either
@OnlyPars76

@pewithjc
@pewithjc Жыл бұрын
Like you said, lots of variables! First you have read the lie of the ball, how is it sitting? Next it depends on what the shot calls for. Where is the pin, how much green do you have to work with, how firm is the green, what is the situation ( are you in a tournament/playing for score or a good time with friends?) If you have plenty of green play the lower shot (higher %) and allow the ball to run more, even using pw 9 8 7. If you have to play the ball higher or have less green then use the more lofted club or play the shot with the 56 but open it up to make it 58 59 60. Also some fun ways to improve short game and pitching, choke down on the club and get tighter to the ball on shots you need a little more spin on. Being tighter to the ball keeps tighter rotation but keeps the speed up for more spin. Also learn how to hit multiple clubs from that forward ball position he was demonstrating. That will allow you to play more shots from that 40-50 yd distance with all those variables and even depending on the wind too! Hope this helps!!

@@pewithjc I think half of golf is what you’re used to or comfortable doing. I easily shaved 5-6 strokes by not using traditional chipping and just doing bump and runs with my p wedge lol. If I need loft I just place the ball more towards the back of my stance. I play in a league at work with around 400 golfers and I can’t tell you how many times guys have asked how the hell I chip like I do with a p wedge lol. I still use my 60 if I have bunker shots or I NEED a nice flop.

Get your right hand on top and open the face. If you do that , the face has to stay open. The right hand is already on top. Address with the club vertical and just return it. Short sided chip/pitch shots will float up and stop . Good stuff

The guys I play with get this shot 8-10x per round. When they are out 240 the don't hit an easy 7 about 140-150 and leave a flat lie in short grass. Nope! The slice a 3w 210, hit cart path and land in 3" grass out 30y on a sidehill lie shooting over a bunker.

I like everything you said but would like to see you demonstrate on real grass, not a mat. Yes, a bad shot can be hit from a mat but it’s much easier to hit decent shots than on grass. The club will not dig in on a mat. No, I’m not interested in seeing you hit a fatty or scull a shot, but the viewer appreciates you hitting shots in similar conditions that we hit from. When we see you hit off real grass it will give us confidence that we can too.
