I seem to have made a mistake in the damage formula. Sometimes working too long on that stuff makes you oversee simple things, thanks for the feedback.
The deflect/deflect sev and accuracy are of course swapped. It should be like this:

Simply put. 2% add 1% is a huge increase. That 1% is actually a 50% increase in your stat. However that same 1% increase at a larger number is less significant just because you already have more. It is still a 1% increase. It is not a diminishing return actually. It’s just that it isn’t as noticeable at say 80%, but is still a 1% increase. You still want as much as possible without going over. The graph is just to help show you what is better if you have to choose between stats, for example if you’re trying to pick a new ring and your choices that you can afford have the same numbers for stats but actually different stats which one would give you the biggest effect. It’s really making it look a lot more complicated than it is. But there really isn’t any other way to show it for someone trying to min max.

For perfect optimisation you need some math to know what to do exactly... luckily you cant mess up too much.. the system is kind of trying to make you somewhat a generalist build and then you start deviating slightly from that

Like key aspects that were either vastly over looked or just straight up broken in other game mechanic changes weve had

Pff there are positives and negatives to this new system... + You cannot just cap everything anymore - which was something that should have been so with m16 imo + Personal: but I like the fact that it's more complicated now - It's not, oh just cap this then that.. you actually have wiggle room in which certain stats are better but beyond that threshold other stats are better. If you don't have many stats to put into your build - it's actually best to not cap anything (well maybe power) + More gear, and especially older gear, has all of a sudden become interesting for some - which might bring old campaigns back to life. I think this should be true in an equal fashion for gear from all old campaigns. They all should have a place in certain builds. - Build specialization is somewhat out of the door. We get wayyyy too many stats now via combined rating, so everyone is base hovering around the same percentages... This is also an advantage because it's hard to really mess up, but imo the negative side is bigger on this one. I like specialized builds. - This stat change imo comes a bit too quick after the last one in m16. Shake ups like this should not happen too often in a game cause it always invalidates items and gear that people have worked for (which makes them understandibly upset) - The fact that some stats (accuracy/deflect) are really bad right now is a sad thing to see. Everything should have an approximately equal impact - just in a different scenario. I'm tending towards the positive side, because I appreciate a challenge on the optimization side - but I understand that this is not true for everyone.

Couldnt agree with ya more, i have since day 1 really enjoyed this game, it would be nice to see it have a system that isnt picked apart 12 hrs after launch, but i defs agree the inclusion of combined rating verdus item level foes leave a few sufficiently interesting hole in a build that could take the form of old gear like the old dps kiuno of the bear or even demigorgon set so i do like that alot

Great video! Very informative. 1 question: didn't you forget the incoming healer of the recipient in the heal formula ? Or is that part of buffs/debuffs

I could have added "OtherPlayerIncomingHealing" indeed, it's not your own incoming healing that does anything. That might have made it slightly confusing maybe? But it is a multiplicative source indeed for healing powers.

Debuffs that increase incoming damage will have a separate section in the damage formula (under debuffs etc.). There are other things that really state "reduces the defense of the target by x", those reduce defense

You doing great job for all of us. Thank you. English isn't my native language, but I understand that priority of stats for dps-class is: 1) power (which boosts everything including your artifacts damage and any additional damage even w/o critical chance) 2) critical chance/critical severity (they works well just combined) 3) combat advantage (when you have it - it works the same as power) + control (which gives you combat advantage even if you facing the enemy). 4) accuracy (the lowest efficiency stat). Right? (Sorry for my poor English)

Very informative video gonna have to favorite this to reference later goodness knows I'm gonna be using this a lot. On the other hand why do heal dc's get a forte boost to accuracy? What does that stat do for a healers? I really hope they change that.

Thanks! As for the forte stats - I made a mistake at that point and took the old chart... oops... the new chart is linked in the description! No more accuracy on healers (because that was kind of stupid indeed) :-) They all get crit or critsev now as a forte stat

I only know Halaster and Zariel for sure - because they are basically gods and have godly presence to give them combat advantage or something like that (I don't approve - I think it's a cheap escape for making more complicated mechanics btw). All other content I don't know

Rainer, great breakdown! Curious what you think of Flaming weapon enchantment. Seems like Bronzewood, Dread, and Frost are getting all the love due to Defense debuff or increase to damage taken. If Flaming tooltip can be trusted, I feel that it can be a nice budget option. Plus more likely to stack in well equipped groups. Feytouched may be a sleeper pick too. Thoughts?

So appreciated...Love your work and TY Rainer, my thoughts... gaming it should be pleasing...but lately its not... still lots of problems and new things put on top...old school here.. everyone is near the same...same weapons (just the shape different) same gear...no one takes u on runs cause u dont know the dungeon... what happened to dying...and learning more you play and die the better you get? have to have expert to run whatever dungeon...(Said in LFG yesterday) :( just sad it is becoming really mechanicical x

The whole exp thing imho can just die out - it doesn't mean anything because everyone has a different opinion what's "exp", It's just bogus.. But yea tell the others that :-/ Best thing to do is find a good guild that groups up for content!

edit: You mentioned the Forte Stat distribution chart in your comments so I deleted that reference.... I would also note that Deflect Severity of 60% is much harder to achieve than what your video suggests unless you play Rogue or Paladin (even then, as Drow or Renegade Drow) as currently there aren't any items or companions (that I am aware of) that grant deflect severity adie from Foehammer's Elixir. Overall, however, nice video that should really help folks who don't have access to preview server.

Yea I know 60% is stretching it a bit, but for crit I also took the top end of crit sev for that line. It's hard to show deflect efficiency because it's so hard linked to deflect severity...

Its basically a "skill" variable, a % of the time that you as a player have combat advantage (so you are positioned correctly). This will vary per person and per session depending on how well you are doing

This is so good ty, I was worrying about the wrong things in a few spots. I so wish you would talk about how to make a sun elf wizard (thatumargist -whichever one isn't arcane- more powerful or is the arcane path better in the end game. I am almost 70,000 but in damage dealt I am rarely first and it needs to improve. Forte is For-Tay smile.

I think atm the arcane paragon path has a lot more potential than thaumaturge. There is a big rebalance coming up soon for wizards though!

The graphs are actually at the end of the video But in general Off: power/combat advantage > crit/crit sev >>>>>>>>>>> accuracy Def: Before 45% defenseis better/After 45% awareness is better (in trials)

It is possible to get 90% accuracy, but is it worthed to sacrifice other important stats? Also Hunter paragon has deflect in forte, not awareness as in video :p (or i dont know about that they will change it but for now it gives deflect)

Yea I copied the old forte list pffft.... 90% accuracy is possible - but if you check the last bit of the video - it is not worth it.... accuracy sucks now

Okay, I'm reviewing notes from your descriptions on what each of the stats actually do... and it seems to me that high deflection stat on a paladin is actually bad, as it will reduce the number of times we are struck therefore reducing our divinity gain. Similarly, having low accuracy would also be bad, as we would then miss more swings if that was our chosen divinity return source. As I'm understanding it, if possible we want as high of health and defense as possible, while having as low of deflect as possible. Also, I'm noticing now dps that previously did not care about the accuracy stat, will now want to stack that more to land more hits.

Armor pen sources almost all have been changed to critical severity!

lets say i go into tomm as a healer with these changes, do i then need to cap power, crit, crit sev, defense and crit avoid? and what about tanks? all offensive stats plus defense, deflect, deflect severity and maybe awareness? how do you even begin to cap everything? (i was told awareness was still not that important) its all very confusing

For trials awareness is actually the first defensive stat for everyone now. Made a small mistake in my graphs, ill get back to it in another video cause this is important! As for stats, as a healer mainly focus on power and outgoing healing. Crit is nice to have as a bonus but don't put too much into it. Crit for healers is not good. Tanks should be able to survive (awareness+def) and then build offensive if they need it for threat. Crit avoid and deflect both are awful stats

Thank you very much for that awsome work. I notice ,what I think, an error in the damage formula. For accuracy multiplier it should be: (Accuracy%-EnnemyDeflectSeverity%). And I wonder if that had an effect on the Accuracy curve in the chart

No it's actually severity - accuracy. In the damage formula I did swap which are yours and which are from the enemy, see description! If it would be Accuracy%-Enemydeflectseverity%, then this part could go negative ;-) because deflectsev for npcs is always 90%

You're welcome! Accuracy was better before they changed the deflect part of the formula. it was very close with combat advantage before... Imo the deflect part could use a bit more tweaking on their side to get the effectiveness up

Hi, 6Blade9 here...I was thinking about coming back to neverwinter (fully). I noticed they are doing what i talked about change the stats and remove the one that make no sense. As i watch your video I hear stuff about caps...did they state the caps (offical ones) or is the coomunity's agreement on caps the norm? Cause my guild back in mod 16 came up with some random stuff so I am wonder if everyone still going with that, or if the dev actually stated the caps.

I'm late to the game with my question but I am confused about a specific portion of the damage formula. If the damage formula is from the perspective of the damage dealer, why is part of the formula / (1+ Deflect Chance x (Deflect Severity% - ENEMY Accuracy))? Why would the enemy's accuracy factor in the amount of damage that I'm doing to it? Am I misunderstanding? The combat advantage and critical stat formulas make sense because they are the attacker's stats being offset by the enemy's corresponding stats; e.g. (CombatAdv% - Enemy Awareness%) and (CriticalSev% - Enemy CritAvoid%). Why isn't the attacker's Accuracy being offset by the enemy's deflect severity?

If a boss have more crit avoidance than your crit severity, does that make your crit hits do less dammge than non crit ? And if they equal does that make your crit and non crit hit do same dammge ?

Stat rating is the value to the left (30000-50000 range). Percentage is the % on the right. The stat rating is capped at item level. If you have a rating equal or higher than item level, you get 50% in the %. For ever 1000 below item level you lose 1% Then you also have source that dont put stats in your rating, but directly in the percentage. With these sources you van reach percentages higher than 50%, until the max of 90%

I know that I'm a bit late on the comment, but I just started to respec my dps build (play heals mostly). You have probably checked the formula, but I can't stop thinking that deflect and defense "modifiers" could also be in the form "multiplied by (1 - def%)" instead of "divided by (1+def%)". From my professional experience, this type of formula that has variables in the divisor can give "interesting" results in certain cases, to say the least.

Love the vids and all the work you do. And I know you do all the math, so I'm trying to wrap my head around why accuracy is so bad now. Ran a few different build combos on Janne calc - 50k IL, maxed power and CA. Then I started at 60% in crit/critsev/accuracy. I added 30%, and adding more accuracy always was better. Not necessarily by much, but always better. 90 Acc, 60 crit/critsev, damage was 12265. All at 70, 12095. 60 Acc, 75 crit/critsev, 11978. This makes sense to me as the deflectsev-accuracy is sooo early in the formula, but am curious what I may be doing wrong.

@@RainerNW As always, it is just plain awesome that you respond. I did check again. While the actual numbers changed a bit, I ended up with the same result, adding 1% to accuracy above 60% was more valuable than adding .5% to crit and .%5 to crit severity. Oddly, as you get very close to the caps, crit does begin to ever so slightly outperform acc, ie 70 acc and 80 crit/sev is better than 90 acc and 70 crit/sev. Again, thanks for the quick response.

Accuracy indeed does beat crit+critsev for a while (you can see it also in the curve). At 56% they should be the same and >56% crit+critsev beats accuracy.

@@RainerNW oops, I assumed you were measuring 1 % Accuracy VS a .5% increase in crit/severity. See my examples above. Sure Crit+Crit Severity starts to get better, but you need 2% of stats to add 1% of crit/crit sev. Thus the accurate comparison is adding 2% accuracy VS. 1% Crit chance AND crit severity, no?

I am still not totally grasping something. Can you explain which SPECIFIC things give to the OTHER contribution category so I can focus on getting above 50% to 90%. I am guessing one is Companion bonuses. What other things give to the OTHER category?

I was able as a 54k Justicar to cap defense to 90, but cant get my awareness much higher than 60ish (Overcapped right now on the base awareness stat) I must need to get a few more companions (Frost mimic and wardog) to get it done.. I have almost everything else set to awareness. Way too hard to cap all three (Defense, Awareness, and Critical Avoidance). Before the changes, my Justicar used to have over 100k in almost every category (including offense). I worked for that though. Feels like such a huge football nerf right now. I get why they did it, I just think they should open up more categories for the OTHER so you don't overcap the primary base stat as much.

Hi Rainer! So, I'm trying to understand what is the importance of accuracy in total damage, and looking at the damage formula, I don't see it. And makes me wonder, is the formula correct? I mean: accuracy is the counter of the enemy deflect severity, so at the formula, it makes sense that it is written like: / ( 1 + (EnemyDeflect% x (EnemyDeflectSeverity% - Accuracy%) ) ) Therefore, if NPC deflect severity is 90%, and your accuracy is 90%, then you divide by 1, which means that damage is not reduced. Right? or am I missing something?

Hello rainer .. can i ask something? In this video u said pve npc have zero crit avoidance. TR has a bonus using stealth in Wicked Reminder encounter skill that debuffs target with -10 crit avoidance. So will that bonus even do anything for example, to halaster in tomm, if he already have 0 crit avoidance?

If nothing changes, deflect sucks.... maybe if deflect sev is really high on a rogue with forte ots slightly better, but it has to be close to 90% to be viable. It's power at the top and then combat advantage or crit, depending how much effort you have to do to get critsev to 90%. You can forget about accuracy...

Armor pen is most replaced by critical severity, and companion influence is replaced by forte or deflect severity in some cases.

Question: Tooltip says that for every 1k of stats missing from ilvl cap you loose 1% of bolster, so does that mean if you have 40% from stats and 50% from other sources, does that mean you loose 10% bolster dispite seeing 90% on your character sheet?

Rating cap at 50% if the ratings are equal or higher as your total item level. If your total item level is 31000, and your rating is 29000, you are 2000 below cap, meaning that your rating% is 50%-2%=48%

Ty, in future, i would like to se all within the stronghold area get a big update: treasure Mines is needed, rewards or a reason to build your own guild or to donate to a guild needs a heavy update, guild boons is very expensive compare how little influence they give,... Glory is impossible or so stupid to get that it should be remove or balance pvp and make it fun...there is buildings in stronghold you cant build only because you need glory which cant be earned easy or cant Even earn cause no queue pop, that is so stupid i believe some politician have had an influence on how glory function.

Basically by specializing your stats. If you take an item, do (Item level - combined rating) and then multiply that by 15. That's how many 'specialized' stats an item gives. Those stats will raise your % of that stat (simplified). Apart from that there are also direct % sources which do nothing with item level and just give you a flat % (e.g. companion equip powers).

Things got pretty complicated at the high end. But not to worry - if you just want to play the game... although the system is more complicated - it is much harder to really mess up your build. Most people will just not be at peak efficiency - but that's not a super big issue anymore.

ToMM and Zariel are just too expensive to equip for, and waaay too much training commitment. Grind up tonnes of resources just to train for a trial? No thanks! this game and how it works makes no sense to me anymore, returning playing from mod mod 16/19, i played on console and recently started on PC, i was extremely sad to see all the old leveling zones removed and replaced with fast progression to lvl 20 max, took a lot of the fun and exploration in the beginning of the game away, spending a while lvling helped me learn how to play any new characters i created and better feel them out to see if i liked their playstyle and mechanics, thats now gone and i think puts newer players at a strong disadvantage from before. They said we wanted to make it simpler for new players to understand, and deleted bondings from the game. i understand how these stats work but its definitely not easier than before, also why do i need to max out 10 mounts and 10 companions to reach maximum bolster when i only ever need 5 of each for bonuses, or 6 if i use a companion/mount as a main summoned one or for a specific power, also the item lvl has near on doubled in my absence and the required item lvl for trial Q is a mammoth of a farm away stopping newer players progress to get their RAD daily. not an issue for me as in less than a week i already had 3million rough ad, but for a new casual player its definitely harder. it sounds like making it easier was actually just making it more expensive, they dont seem to care about new players just making money as the games not making as much as it once was. Thats just my opinion. all these changes have just make me not want to play, shortly after my return. not to mention the zax backlog of 6 months on pc is a pure turn off for a player that loves to grind time away and doesnt have a lot of money. this was the main upside to playing the game for me as i could grind my time and still progress without whaling out all be it slower it was possible to keep up before. l Love this game but its sad to see what its become. sorry for rant, and an old ish video but thought i would chuck my 2 cents in here. Great video as always, helped me re understand all these changes, keep up the great content and all you do for the community.

the combined rating part makes no sense how can it ever have lower combined rating than it's own item level if each item gives x15 item level combined rating? e.g. if item level has 100, that's 1500 combined rating, when would that ever be lower than the item level? or what am i missing here?

Lets say you have an item with an item level of 1000. That means the item will give you 15000 stats. This item can have a combined rating of 900, which is 13500 stats. It then has room for e.g. +1500 combat advantage, totaling those 15000 stats

Sadly that is not something that can be answered easily. But the general gist is that damage bonus is more important than 90% in your stats. In the next charbuilder update you will be able to see which is best for your build.

With 90% ratings and the acc is 74% still using Neverwinter Knight Discipline 7.5% dmg bonus (changimg it to batiri if boss fights), 7.5% damage from LH, and 1 pc of swordsman's perks 3% dmg. On what Ive understand on your video, all these bonus damage % will be not so effective if I have 90% stats? Or am I wrong?

I don't have time to look at this in detail (just looked at the curves at the end, and I agree with most of them), but I have different results for Defense and Awareness (Awareness being much better, and giving better and better results as you put points in it, contrarily to Defense). And it's much better to have Deflect = Deflect Severity until both are at 50%, then capping Deflect to 90% before putting more points into Deflect Severity is better. I did the doublecheck and it seems that I did make a mistake indeed regarding Awareness.. Awareness is the complete opposite function of defense. In total the effectiveness of defense and awareness is the same, but the last percent of awareness gives the same impact of the first percentage of defense and vice versa. For tanks AND for all other roles too....
