Cool bike but I think I'll stick with my z650 for now

What if you didn't already have that Z650?
@planetwally
@planetwally 3 жыл бұрын
@@genericallyaccepted I like the Trident's look better and it's Showa upside down forks are definitely better than the z650 setup -- interestingly the brakes look to be identical to those on the z650 and reviewers of both the z650 and Trident seem to have very positive comments about both brakes despite the 'standard' setup. What I really like about the z650 is the strong torque at around 3000-6000 rpms where you spend most of your time riding on local roads and Japanese reliability-- curious about how the Trident will feel in the mid-range on the street. I was torn between the z650 and mt07 when buying the z650, given the looks of the Trident and the triple engine, I would probably be pulled towards the Trident. The 650cc class of bikes is becoming a saturated market, which is a great thing since it pushes each company to innovate instead of becoming stagnant.

yeah, you have the z650, keep it ! but this will outperform the z650 all day long, probably much better handling we will see, but the z650 is great, I've ridden it, enjoy !

I don't think you could pick a bad welterweight bike. Whether it's a Z, MT, SV, CB or Trident it all just depends on what you like for an engine.
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 3 жыл бұрын
@@njminer agreed personal taste. I’ve ridden all apart from the trident. I’d go SV. I love that engine, the lack of technology etc. Had a CBR650F before my current bike. The Honda engine is great but rather buzzy. I like the engine breaking of the twins.

Review confirms this is a great all round middle weight package, which is a relief as I ordered one two weeks ago and have had my fingers crossed ever since! It's all subjective of course but I think the styling is spot on, the LCD dash is the first one I've seen I actually like and I need a lightweight bike. Never owned a Triumph and never bought a new bike before. Can't wait to take delivery in March.

The engine is aperently derived from the old 675 and not the newer 660 on the street triple s. For exemple this engine uses cylinder liners and a water jacket, like the old 675, instead of having the coolant passeges cast into the block, like the 660 street triple.

Was in the market for CB650R and I literally put everything on hold when I first saw Trident 660 came out about a month ago. I like CB650R so much but to be honest I do suddenly feel like it 'looks old' compared to Trident 660. Anyway, I'm still weighing my options at least until I am able to experience the Triumph myself. Meanwhile, Visor Down, please do an exclusive one to one comparison videos between CB650R and Trident 660. Keep up the good work guys. 👍👍

Try them both. A triple engine and an inline four cylinder have a different character. On a test ride, you will soon notice which engine you prefer. From the looks I like both bikes. As a former Tiger 800 owner expect maintenence costs which are quite above average for the Triumph. My Tiger was reliable, I am talking about regular maintenece.

I love motorcycles, of all kinds. If I had the means I’d have all of them in my garage. Now realistically I’ve never been able to afford more than one, or my dream bike for that matter. I’m retired now at 57 and I’m in the market for something new that embodies all my desires in a motorcycle into one, given a lifelong realization that I’ll never be a dominant dirt bike or super sport rider. I feel this bike and engine are perfect for what I will use it for with just the right amount of overkill. Thank you triumph for: 1. Considering us shorter riders. I have always been a fan of the big bmw boxer motored GS’s but I’m not a giant Nordic person. It seems the biggest bikes get all the best quality parts and trim. 2. The torque ratio for mid band torque in this bike is best for ALL riders. The powerband of bikes like say the CB 650R, are dictated by the sport bike industry are for the track and best left there. This bike gives you that same power at lower RPM’s where it is accessible on every ride. 3. Making this bike available, and at a good price, to me in South America where most models are very difficult to import. Saving my money as we speak for the next model year. PS. More shiney paint options with that killer large logo and please, no more flat black bikes (done to death) or red bits that don’t match anything.

Always ugly when they stick the plate over the back wheel. Noticed the MT09 done this then switched back for the new model. Hopefully there's an option for a normal tail tidy. Agree with the tank comment. The plastic and logo make it look cheap. Red bits look random also.

Love touring on it and as much as brain said get Tiger, heart never loved it, but got smitten by this. Hate the looks and styling of Street Triple. But as everyone keeps calling this as good first bike and beginners bike, it makes me worried, is it not a good fun bike for experienced rider? I mean 81BHP for a new rider is anyways crazy irrespective of how one rationalises it. What are your thoughts on it being a weekend fun bike for experienced riders??? And this vs. Street Triple R?

Fantastic review Toad, I looked at the Z900 given how highly you recommend it, in the end I went with the ST3RS due to handling and weight savings. I fully expect this to be as good as you say it is, if the Striple has a fault, it's the low torque output on typical tight twisty road RPMs. If this was available a few months ago, I might have this and the Interceptor 650 for less than the ST3RS, I can't see the real-world performance being inferior to its big brother.

You have to test ride them really. I owned a Street Triple 660 A2 (derestricted to 94 BHP), and I've test ridden the CBR650R. They're both good. ( I did really want to test ride the naked CB650R, and not the sports CBR650R) The dash is really hard to see in bright sunlight on the CBR650R I rode. Honda might have fixed that on the latest ones. The low down torque on the Street Triple 660 was better than the Honda CBR650R. You do have to thrash the CBR650R more to make it go. Some people like doing that ! I did also have a test ride on the upright naked CB1000R, so not quite the same, I found the Honda handling and steering to be a bit more vague than the Triumph triples I've ridden. (Street Triple S, Street Triple RS and Speed Triple RS ) . The steering on the CBR650R was less vague, but that's sports bike position, which I can't handle for more than 20 mins at a time. But yes, you really have to test ride !

Why don't reviewers ever talk about engine vibration? I feel like it's one of the most important aspects of a motorcycle. To me a motorcycle is no fun if my feet hands and butt are constantly being vibrated to numbness. The only thing I've been able to figure out is if someone says a bike has a lot of character that means it vibrates a lot.

I bought a second hand 2018 Street Triple A2 660 (and had it derestricted to 94 BHP) just over a year ago. I did swap that in for a Speed Triple mid this year. Yes, I was possibly a bit silly ! Now I wonder, if Triumph had this bike out back in 2019 , would I have got it instead of the Street Triple 660 ? Would I have then still been tempted to swap in for a Speed Triple ? I realise this bike isn't aimed at the Speed Triple market, the reason I swapped in a Street for a Speed was because of the massive amount of low down torque ( and not really the top end rush ). So I am really interested in how the Trident compares to the Street Triple 660 94BHP and not the Street Triple RS. I really do like the look of the headlight on the Trident over the Street and Speed Triples.

@@philclarke7712 I've met several bikers of different ages that have bought expensive bikes with adjustable suspension settings. Most of them dont touch them. The ones that do, prefer to pay to someone that knows how. The ones that do are usually very performance oriented people that rarely have business on beginners bikes. The people that do crap on their machines are usually people that shouldnt be near any machinery to be honest. I do get your point though. But it all adds and re affirm the idea that beginner machines shouldnt have overly complex settings, but good parts with limited adjustments, which is what Triumph is doing here. In my opinion this whole craze of overly complex gadgetry trend on the last decade is just to increase the price of motorcycles, which is starting to bounce back.

I don't mind the scallops in the tank as much as the gawdy paint. I mean, I know it's a tilted 'T' emblem but what I see are two slanted arrows that say to me,' This Side Up!' As far as 'toys'? New riders will play with them alright. And distract themselves and die. The middleweight class does not need traction control. I will give them kudos for being able to turn off ABS. I think that should be the norm and not the exception. But what do I know? I also think all motorcycles should have self-cancelling turn signals.

About the forks - can you change the oil weight when you get them serviced? Can you change the springs if they are wrong for you? I'm pretty sure 'non adjustable' is just convenience. I've had WP for a few months now, and I'm yet to give the dials a click. And Nissin brakes - used for a long time in competition. Expectations seem to be based on marketing and hype. Unfortunately, so are the positives here. The tank shape is what makes it a trident, and the three cylinders. Doesn't have the torque of a Husqvarna single, doesn't rev like a three cylinder Aprilia either.

Great bike, & I'd love to support British business, but the KTM Duke 790 is currently listed at £7.5k with most toys included(rumour has it either under £7k or loads of power parts thrown in at dealerships)so it's a pretty hard sell for me on that basis. I'm not singling the Trident out, I wouldn't buy a CB650R for the same reason coz the 790 is a steal at that price & so much bike for the money. It's almost like Triumph's PR team have told the press what to compare it too...

I like engines having big torque at low revs, they are the ones that gives you the biggest smile (I love the 1290 Super duke). They are never boring. The more torque at low revs the more pleasure/fun. CB650R isn't an exciting bike for me because it's a peaky engine. @@redash411 A lot of people will disagree. For me, 3 cylinders sound better than inline 4. Torque is way more fun than power. Power will get you a fine by the police. And really if you want power what are you doing looking at these beginner/entry level bikes ? You're limited by your budget ? CB650R is pretty good but the engine isn't what I like. Low torque at low revs, you have to wait it reaches high revs to get power and speed. Trident 660 gives a good kick from the lowest revs, it is tuned for that.
