We used CLE for most things until midway this past year (third grade). We are sticking with CLE math most likely. I am also eyeing up Easy grammar to transition to and already use Word Roots. Berean Builders has been our go to science for awhile. We just purchased Poetry Memorization and Teaching the Classics bundle through IEW, but do not use their other products. My son likes to write and I am comfortable handling that for the most part with just a couple well chosen resources instead of a formal curriculum. History has been our nemesis, as he doesn’t like it and I love it. Looks like we may be using Mystery of History this year. I had been trying literature based history, but he just didn’t like the books. It is serendipitous I ran across your video for the first time as we are fixing to transition to RV life as well 😊

Love that we have so much in common. I have even considered the poetry program through iew but am not ready to get into it since it seems like it could be teacher intensive so it may not be the season for our family. Curious which resources you use for writing. So awesome that your son enjoys writing. Good luck with the transition to an RV. It’s one of the best choices we have made.

So far the Poetry Memorization is just fun and designed to go slow. Most of the poems are funny so kids learn to enjoy the memorizing part. Right now I’m mostly implementing the Charlotte Mason or Robinson Curriculum methods of writing which consist of first reading quality literature then doing a lot of copy work, dictation, and free writing that I then correct. By reading the quality literature they are imitating it in their writing. A number of curriculum methods don’t introduce intensive grammar until they are older. The thinking being that like learning talking, being immersed in it and practicing it first lays a better foundation. I have found that my 9 year old has caught onto more of the grammar rules and sentence/paragraph structure by seeing them, better than being taught them. He just intuitively knows from having been immersed with copy work. I do believe though if I had a reluctant writer or one struggling I would use IEW or similar. I do suggest reading some of Ruth Beechick’s books and “Any Child Can Write” by Harvey Weiner.

Great choices! Sounds like academics come pretty easily for your daughter. Love that with homeschooling you can speed up where they excel, (like in her mathematics) and slow down or leave something out when needed. Always look forward to your choices as my kids are similar ages to yours! ❤😊

I never taught a logic class to my older children but find that fascinating considering my oldest son struggles with life logic at times haha. Thanks for sharing your curriculum for 4th grade. My choices way back were a bit different than this so it was cool to see what you do.

It’s hard to teach when it’s not your favorite to do yourself and then when you have struggling writers, it adds an another source of difficulty for sure.

Nothing wrong with being braking up lessons!!! We outsourced writing!!! We love compass classroom vocabulary curriculum!!! We are deciding on how we want to do logic!!! We love Singapore math!!!
