The baggy is always intentional for a costume so that the person wearing it can move easily. VFX is always there to remove it in the movie

They really messed up with that first look, seeing these BTS photos it’s a great suit. Still some issues like the suit not form fitted to the actor, but while it’s not perfect it looks really good.

The suit is getting a reaction similar to that of Routh's Superman returns suit. There are things people like but things they would change. Hardly the home run the film needs as buzz so far is not great. The suit is baggy - Corenswet wasted all that time in the gym. Gunn is going for a "thick" look a la All Star. The collar/cape are a step backwards and all the lines pointless. Funny - Mr. Terrific's suit is getting a far more positive response. Wild if Superman ends up with the lease liked suit in the film.SS.

I personally like the bagginess. I’m someone that’s a big fan of early mcu, Alex Ross and Jack ass. Where the suits are rather real and imperfect, they have a loose quality about them and I think that suits the world a lot better to me. Cavill’s suit to me looks great, but it doesn’t look like something someone would actually wear. I understand it’s alien but I can always tell when they decide to use a muscle suit with him, Batman and Aquaman. It’s stylised, but I have a feeling that’s not what Gunn is going for. We are judging this suit based off past iterations. Movies are an art form and needs to be judged in full to really appreciate the some of its parts.

The suit is like a modern version of Kirk Alyn's suit from the 40's his suit wasn't skintight. TheTruth31 said it looking like cosplay is a complement and it looks like a suit than most Superman suits.

Long time Superman fan but never liked the red trunks ( in most cases they’ve looked ridiculous in both the comics and live action films except for Christopher Reeves version which was awesome) however in these set photos the trunks look like adult diapers- The rest of the Suit looks great; the Kingdom Come “S” Insignia and the all yellow “S” on the back of his cape👍 Mister Terrific really looks comic book accurate which is…….TERRIFIC👍

I look at David and I see Superman. Is the suit for everyone, no but for me it is. The colors are vibrant and the cape doesn't drag on the ground. Many touches will be made to this film in post. Remember Sasha Calle and her set photos.

Everything with the suit is perfect for me the colours, design etc except how high the neck part is personally for me they should have stuck with the low neck part like the Henry Cavil suit and the bagginess but that might not be a huge issue as it could be fixed via vfx but in general I live it and I'm so happy they are bringing back the logo on the cape it's been too long.

He doesn't need an over-exaggerated muscle suit, but that doesn't make it OK to give him what looks like a motorcyclist suit or GOTG uniform. Superman is supposed to have a skin-tight suit that he can wear under his normal clothes, under his shirt. Can you see Gunn's Superman wearing this under his shirt? Christopher Reeve was well-built but not overly muscular and the suit looked very good on him. Even Dean Cain looked good in his suit without being a gym freak nor wearing padding, although that suit did have a cheaper shiny material look to it.

As an artist and a character designer, I don't like this Superman outfit at all. It's too baggy for someone like Superman (because the leader-type characters or characters that symbolize some certain big ideals usually wear shiny tight suits or something that could clarify their body contours more - to show strength and reliability) and overdesigned like MCU's. Yes, I know the 52's suit has a collar and lines, but it is still good like the classic one because there are no trunks and baggy materials to balance the design. This suit tries to mix too many materials into one. A mess to be exact.

@@beans4126 have you ever heard about "First look does matter"? And by the way, the only time that Gunn's outfits are form-fitting is The Suicide Squad - with the old DCEU’s designer teams. GotG never have those form-fitting outfits in Gunn's direction.

I absolutely agree that they will tighten the suit via CG in post. Great examples given on how Spider Man and Black Panther did the same. David worked way too hard to bulk up for the part only to cover him up. I believe in post, they'll modify it to better highlight his physic. Aside from that common observation, I like this look much better than the first reveal. Love the vibrant colors, the shorts, and I like much better (though not totally satisfied) that his neck isn't as covered up as I originally thought. I still prefer an open neck for Superman.

This James Gunn version of Supes made me so sad. 1. The S 2. The Trunks 3. Now the complete look? It feels like he's going to Toy Convention. Mr Terrific's outfit even looks better than Superman's. At first I thought it was a Spinoff of Guardians of the Galaxy if I'm being honest here.

I kept saying in various comment threads that I was very worried that James Gunn would bring his style from GOTG and The Suicide Squad over to the Superman movie, something I think doesn't fit Superman at all, and other folks kept insisting that I'm quick to jump to conclusions, that directors work in different styles all the time and that Gunn would know better and wouldn't do anything similar to those when it comes to Superman, and now what do we see? Exactly those types of concerns coming to fruition, with Gunn showing us that he is indeed porting over that same MCU style.

The first suit was clearly scorched and battle damaged, so yeah, different suit but same design. And this reminds me nothing of the multi-textured jacket/pants outfits of the Guardians. It's almost like people don't realize this Oscar winning costume designer has worked on numerous films across multiple genres and has designed many, many superhero costumes other than Guardians.

I think the costume looks solid. Right off the page. As you’ve pointed out, a larger movement friendly suit seems to be the norm these days for filming with touches in post.

Thank you for bringing up the post on the suit. First off, they'll film it at more flattering angles. Secondly, they absolutely designed it like this for David to have more range. I think you're exactly right about that. It's so easy to get rid of the slight bagginess in post. Even still, I think tye suot is gorgeous. They look like they lept from a comic panel.

In certain photos the suit definitely looks cosplay-ish and others actually don’t look bad at all like 3:03

I see people don’t like the trunks on the suit, I even hear them say they look like adult diapers. But to me i just don’t see it. Personally I like the classic Superman suit. I sorta wished they took more inspiration from the rebirth era of DC comics especially with the suit instead of the New 52 like how Cavill’s suit was inspired by the New 52. Yeah suit looks okay for the most part, but I’m mostly looking for if Superman will be more of the aspirational hero that he’s supposed to be instead of the one from the DCEU. Time will tell.
