I confirmed it with Apple Support. With the set up in this video you need to make this AP express a base by running an ethernet cable from your Internet providers router to the AP express and create a new network. You can then get another AP express to extend that network. Though more than likely the AP express as a base will put out a stronger signal than the Internet providers router. What you did in this video was NOT extending the signal. I did the exact same thing as you. All it

Thanks. For some reason it wouldn't set up as an extender with my computer, so I used my iPad instead. Worked instantly.

I'm a little confused. The only time you can "extend" your network (range extender as you called it) with the express is if you already have another Apple device as the base. Such as another AP express, AP extreme or Time Capsule. If your base is your Internet providers router, the AP express will NOT extend it. This is why when you opened setup on your iPad the first option it gave you was Create a New Network (recommended). This means you can extend your current base. Believe me I tried it.

I depends on what you would use it for. I used mine to extend my WiFi signal and it works great.

Thanks greatly. Very frustrated trying to follow Apples instructions. Wasn't until I viewed this video that it was revealed what I was doing wrongly. I was trying to connect Airport express to my home hi fi wirelessly. The default option was to create a new network. I inadvertently selected that option repeatedly and guess what - repeatedly it didn't work. The video revealed my solution which was to select join existing network. So simple. Worked. Many thanks. Loved seeing the green light come on the device.

i think the new update is, you can add to existing network but for only airplay and print but not extend the network unless you have another apple airport that connect from moderm ..

Thank you for a well executed video. No verbal crutches, giving the appropriate amount of time to each subject and not saying the same thing over and over again about what this video is about for the first third of it. 3:32 Technology is constantly advancing, so I don't know if it's still important but I noticed that you connected the live cord to the device. I've always heard that it's advisable to connect the cord to the device first and then to the power. Does it still matter?

No problem at all. I was VERY frustrated with it until I realized what the issue was. I now have mine set up as a base, but what I'm going to do is buy a longer ethernet cord and set up the AP express at the other end of the house. My AP Express as a base is putting out a stronger signal, but still not strong enough from that part of the house.

Very well done video, one of the best explainations on setup of an Express that I have seen. Have you considered making one on how to connect an airport express to a Hotel wifi network? It seems to be something that is needed since a lot of people are trying to use these devices as mobile connections while on vacation

Interesting to know you can set up the device using the iPad WiFi Networks tab. I would have normally gone straight to AirPort Utility.

All you will need to do is make sure your Netgear is providing a WiFi connection and then take your AirPort Express in the area where you need a boost and plug it into a wall outlet. Then you will need to go to the AirPort Utility on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Windows machine to setup the AirPort Express. If you have a Windows machine you will need to visit Apple website to download the AirPort Utility application. Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate the support.

No you don't have to be plugged into an ethernet but it does have to be connected to a wifi network and to do that you'll need the airport express app on your iPhone, iPad or you can even download the extension on your computer.

Oh my god, okay so I did everything you said to in your video. But when I was on my phone, making the network, it says my ethernet cord wasn't connected/plugged in to the AP express. And it was, i resetted it, i made sure it was plugged in all the way, the cord is in great condition. Any help here? This is frustrating -_- It keeps flashing amber.

Yes. Connect the PS3 with an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the Airport Express.

I have mine set up as an extension because my home is a two story home and my wifi was terrible. My Speed is really different from standing near the AP Extreme to what it is standing next to my AP Express. AP Extreme speed is 48mbps and AP Express speed is 14mbps. My question is this, Can I Hardwire my ap express from my ap extreme? Will that help the ap express so that the wifi signal it puts out is just as strong as the ap extreme? If so, what do I do to change the current settings?

I recommended calling AppleCare if you keep getting an unexpected error but in the mean time I would try pressing the reset button on the back and keep trying.

I STILL NEED SOME HELP. I can't get the extended wifi setup. I am using a Netgear N600 as my base station and trying to use the Airport Express as my extender. I have plugged it into my ethernet as your video shows, but the Airport will not connect with my base station. Could you post the steps. I could be missing something simple. Thanks

Great video, but I would like to know what is your main router (brand, type...). Because when I set my AirPort sometimes the Pc have problems with IP. I don ´t know why. Thank you :)

These instructions on KZfaq are confusing to me. I don't already have a network. That's where the instructions usually start. I have a Qwest router. The ethernet connection goes from it to my computer. What do I do then? Plug the ethernet cord into the AirPort and then use the utility to set it up?

I used bits of his dialogue in places where I was not too knowledgeable. I didn't want to misinform my viewers trying to explain it in my own words in places where I myself needed help with. Back then I was still fairly new to having a KZfaq following so at the time I felt that I could get some guidance from one of the best.
