Here we are 2 years later, technology has advanced so much, and this project is very useful. thank you for the video.

I'd suggest getting some type-c 5v triggers instead of the micro USB one I use there I'll be making a mod for the airport extreme with type-C - so, stay tuned 🔥

@@Darieee any update on the usb-c version? If you could make this video a step by step how to it would be really really appreciated! Thank you!

@ni3433 Have done the Type C mode recently. I don't have a video only pictures but it is super simple. I also did the same thing with the AirPort Extreme but with some modifications.

Just got one with blown power supply and not possible to fix it because there are too many components blown until I found your vdo may be useful to convert to micro usb source. Thank you. I found way out the cave 😂

it's 2023, well 2022 when you posted this comment. STOP using micro USB already. Let it die. We have USB-C now.

Just wonder if I really need to put the capacitors in?

I heard the 3.3v has a range of 3.3 to 5v and will run directly from usb power without the step down. Haven’t personally tried it but I might in the near future.

Thoughts on the Adafruit TPS62827 3.3V Buck Converter Breakout - 3.3V Output 2 Amp Max PID: 4920?

Hi, my airport express 2nd gen did not turn on suddenly. I've checked the voltage just alone the power board, it stays at 3.3v, but it becomes zero when it connected to other boards. Wonder whether it's worth modifying the original power board based on your instruction. Any thoughts?

I wonder if a similar approach could be used on old AppleTV units that have the same type of power adapter? I assume they draw a lot more power...

hmm, yeah ... probably a bit more, though, I wouldn't expect the small black ones to use an insanely larger amount ... they are after all using ARM phone chips

Many years i used epoxy in electronics and it's ok especially for plugs, sockets and any other mechanical parts, but for pcb and all "electronic" parts capacitors, coils etc. better is silicone for pcb appliance. Better heat dissipate, vibrance damping etc.

What chip is on that buck converter board. Several different designs on your AliExpress link that look similar but using different chips.
@Darieee3 жыл бұрын
the ones with the tiny chips are all good - at least as far as my experience goes ✌️ sorry I don't know the name of the package but - it's the rice kernel sized one 😅

Bought some of those modules, was running low on tiny buck regulators. The killer feature is those pads on the back, always had problems with those crap trimmer pots they use, so hard to set with any precision and I'm always worried they will vibrate to a different setting.
@Darieee5 жыл бұрын
ow yeah ... I've also used the EN pin ... just a caveat - it has a pull-up resistor to Vin ... fried quite a few chips once not having realised this So, EN should be used with the pullup resistor popped off the board with an exacto knife or something similar

Hi again. I have supplied 3.3v to the unit and I can get turned on. The LED kept blinking with amber but no wifi signal could be detected on any device. What should I do?

Great video! I’m playing music of a mobile partybox ( www.soundboks.com/ ) unfortunately this thing does not have airplay . Does your airport express mod run of a powerbank? If so I would Velcro the AE and powerbank to the back of my SOUNDBOKS… thanks !

i'm quite sure type c wasn't yet even fully ratified at the time I made this video 😂, but yeah - type-c is indeed crushingly better, I agree and fully feel your sentiment

Great work but can we stop using micro USB already?? I know this video is 5 yrs old but still, lets move on. :)

dude I wish everyone figured out reversible plugs before apple implemented lightning but alas - standards bodies have gotten rather sluggish over the years
@charminbaer23235 ай бұрын
@@Darieee on that note, we also need to stop using USB A.
