Mike, forgive me if this sounds patronizing, but having followed y’all now for some time, it’s abundantly clear to me that Gilbert could not have left his legacy in better hands. You are possessed with every attribute he could have possibly hoped for with the addition of innovation and it’s the latter which will see your ranch endure. My sincere compliments.

Talk about bringing back memories. Our wall mounted phone was black and it was a party line. Two short rings was for our house... there were 3 other houses on the party line and they all had different rings. Yes that makes me older than dirt and smarter than sin.

Glad to find a man of integrity in today's society. I believe that your previous corral was due for replacement. I remember that cow whose calf had a broken leg who cleared the barriers of the corral in last week video like an Olympic steeplechaser.

This will be quite the project but if anyone can do it you can! I love the old phone, brings back memories of my childhood. Our phone was on the kitchen wall with a long cord of course. In order for me to have any kind of privacy when talking to my friends I stretched it all the way to the basement! Mom would get so mad but hey I was a teenager lol!

My father had a red phone just like the one found in the opening. He ordered it when Northwestern Bell (years ago) began to offer color phones for no additional charges. Remember, in the 60s, you rented phones from the "phone company". It was in a prominent location in his business and when someone would comment about the red phone, he would state that it was a direct line to the White House.

Oh my gosh, it even has the double ring, very old, very Unique. Here I go with an old story of my grandparent's home. When their phone rang, and when they answered it, it had 3 short rings. They had a shared line with other farmers down the road. I do not know how many that was, but there where diffrent rings that would happen now and then. I remember one time as a little girl I was playing and picked up the phone, and there where people talking on it. So I joined the conversation. Those two ladies enjoyed the fact that I had joined in. I don't know how long I was chatting with them before Grandma walked in and asked who I was talking to. She looked at me to see I was on the phone. Well she was a little embarrassed, but the two ladies where good friends. They where laughing in no time. So after letting them go, she asked me not to talk on the phone. My next visit with my Grandparents , there was a little toy phone I could talk on all I wanted.

I have always wanted a tub and alley set up but have been limited by space. Plus I vaccinate in Feb in western N.Y. (With that much snow I have to have entire system indoors.) Recently I started looking into a 'bud box' system. I think I can make that work with what I have. Us cattlemen always thinking. If it's easier for us it's probably easier on them.

I agree with the many comments who are thrilled by the conversation and choices both Mike and Erin made - and that Arrowquip also made. I am looking forward to seeing this new system in place and being used, though it will take at least a year to see it being used in all normal applications. We won't see the flexibility of the system until a problem occurs - and there is no predicting when that will happen, though we all know it can happen at any time or not at all for a long time. I also believe the intended use of the reclaimed wood will give benefits that will make a difference for many years to come. I remember that lead herd bull that could have benefited from a short walk to a corral - and treatment there or transport back to the home ranch. This is an exciting advancement!

I'm impressed Mike. Cattle stress makes for people stress. Corners are to be avoided. Honeycomb is best. And cattle will move easiest from dark to light. And if they cannot see through a wall they tend not to crowd it. I've seen black plastic used to herd Bison. May I suggest some reading for you. Read some books written by a guy named Monty Robert's. You will learn a lot I'm sure. He trained horses. But he had success training cattle and wild deer as well.

During the 1950's with a multiple Party Line Service Plan in rural locations, one would have to listen for the neighbor hood "Busybody" gossiping on the line and before dialing the number that you wanted. Of course, if the subject of the conversation was of interest you could "listen-in" at will provided you were quiet and didn't cough, sneeze or laugh !!

Love your channel. You truly care about your big babies. As my grandpa did too. Don't get me wrong sometimes he got upset when Mama was on one side of the creek and baby on the other side. Mama would be screaming for her baby to be with her we put a rope around Mama's neck got the truck and slowly got her back with her baby or sometime we had to get the boat and put a rope around the baby and push it along down the river to Mama as long as the water wasn't too deep it was something we could do. They were always getting separated from each other. Grandpa got frustrated sometimes but always took the time to make sure they were ok before going in for the night.😁❤

Hey Mike! Nice red phone on your wall there. Where is the box that hung on the wall with the talks into horn and the individual earpiece on wire? You know the kind you used years ago with the windem up crank on the side? With the woman's voice on the other end? Something like ring 2 down 7 maybe? Going to be an enjoyable Arrowquip series to follow along with as you start up and maybe restart your design in place. And for Erin, Happy Gardening! -Bob...
