Audi's are also super safe, obviously. However I am not convinced about that tilt function for the side impact... If the car deforms less, that means more energy is spread inside for the passengers to absorb. And it looks like it can tip the car over in a stronger impact.

Just subscribed. I like how honest and unbiased your review was. You didn't cut out the parts that failed, like the voice command, and when the rear touch screen took a while to boot up. I hate that they replaced the knobs with touch screens. Normally, after getting used to the car, you know exactly where everything is, and sometimes don't have take your eyes off the road once. Also don't like that you cant toggle Active Dynamic Steering.

it's a 6 liter w12 firstly. secondly it's for design purpose. if you want a 12 cylinder luxury sedan from germany buy a s65 or a m760li which they have real exhaust pipes. maybe the bmw are more ream than mercedes's.

Mat, thank you for being one of the very few to test the suspension over bumps. Most reviewers simply repeat the manufacturer's claims. This car looks lovely inside and the technology is awesome. The rear is definitively it's best side. From the front quarter, it looks like a long wheelbase Passat.

Like the way screens are integrated, BUT - nothing can beat a normal, simple button! You feel it so you do not have to look at it, and it needs no cloth for wiping the fingerprints! Perfect interior looks like in Pagani cars.

To be honest a lot of the tech covered in this video has been used by BMW and Mercedes for quite some time. The ABC active suspension was on the S-Class way back in 2000 and was regarded as one of the best. In 2014 Mercedes introduced Magic Body Control which scans the road for bumps and adjusts using the ABC system. BMW also had integral active steering for well over a decade.

I really love that side collision protection feature. Both window and driver's headrest roll upward for maximum protection. Those small details are amazing. Thumbs up for Audi

So in regards to the touch screens they have moved to a solution, which is more dangerous, harder to use, creates lots of smudges, and is hard to see due to the glossy screens. Yeah, that is the future and it sucks.

The current S class launched back in 2013, but has 99 percent of the tech In this new A8.. can't wait to see what the next S class will bring to the table! Don't get me wrong, this car is crazy good, but the S class is king.

I agree. the D4 A8 had one of the best user interface of ANY car. it had a sensible layout and the crucial tactility which allowed the eyes to be on the road. the new one is just a touchscreen from some korean OEM much like any other car these days. this is a cunning cost cutting measure manufacturers are taking these days because they know the general public is too stupid to recognize actual quality and usability when they see it. instead they gravitate towards anything that is considered 'cool, and trendy' even if it's more expensive and less reliable.

Touch screen is nothing new. I think it’s cost cutting if you think about it. But if you don’t feel like using the voice stuff and change settings manually, you’ll find yourself taking your eyes off the road longer.

Samsung Galaxy S7 completely agree with you. The whole retractable screen thing is starting to go away. That’s why I’m getting the RS3. Well... one of the many reasons. I hate the iPad sized screen you get in the B9 A4 S4, A5 S5 RS5. Just pray to god this A8’s interior design doesn’t stem down the range

The 2017 E-Class has auto-parking similar to this system. Completely autonomous after it finds a spot, and it can find it on either side of the vehicle, not just one side.

The side on collision reduction system is seriously impressive but in comparison to the S-Class on rear seat luxury, I think the Merc has it in that case, for instance, the reclining function, in the S-Class the footrest pops up from behind your legs, unlike the A8 that requires you to lift your legs onto the footrest. Both awesome cars though.
