On December 1, 2023, the new Austrian passport generation has launched with a redesigned look and modern security features.
The cover has been completely revamped and includes the word "Österreich" (Austria) in tactile Braille for persons with limited vision. The data page of the passport is made of polycarbonate, which provides the highest protection against tampering and counterfeiting. In addition to many other security features, modern high-tech security elements such as a laser-image perforation feature and a multiple laser image (MLI) are integrated into the passport.
The QR code, already in use on the Austrian ID card, now supports checking the new Austrian passport as well. With the free CHECK-AT app, citizens can easily and securely verify selected security features of the new Austrian passport - in just a few seconds and without any special expertise.
