The Russian DD attacking their own TB seems on brand for the Russian Navy back then.

As The Russian Empire, you have to watch out for British Trawlers disguised as Japanese Torpedo Boats!!!

Just hearing the terms "pacific" and "Russia" in the same context. Makes me think of a wise man quoting a ship, "Do you see torpedo boats?"

My recommendation for the Russian navy organization: one big battle fleet in each theater, optimized for short cruises and brawling (min range, max durability) with 3 BB, 4 CA, 6CL (escort focused) and 12 DD (escort/scout focused). One expeditionary fleet in Baltic and Far East (not in Black Sea, too small) with longer range, optimized for raiding, with 2 BC, 4 CL (escort) and 6 DD (escort/scout). All ports not housing one of the aforementioned 5 big fleets is to be built around harbor defense and torpedo strikes, with a minelaying CL and 2 DD (minelayer focused) and 6 TB/SS that raid out of them. That will give a respectable fleet size of 9 BB, 4 BC, 12 CA, 26 escort CL, 48 escort/scout DD, and lots of minelayers and torpedocraft to ruin enemy forces.

-46% accuracy bonus from cruising speed means instead of, say, 20% accuracy bonus at cruising speeds you get a 10.8% bonus from cruising speeds. Not great, but still more accurate than at max speed.

Tou might also try to equip the Russian ships with high velocity binocular throwers

I'd say its tradition for early 1900s Russian ships to have an immense dislike to TBs! Hopefully your admirals can stamp that out before something serious happens.

I've tried DDs with secondaries, but the game treats them all as mains, and it was definitely buggy in 1.3.9.9. If those DDs function properly, that's good info.

I love the armored tri masts, i'm still using them in 1920, each fleet is 10x CAs 4500 tonnes 4x 8.9" BB smallest displacement 1x9" -20% barrel length the battleship just serves as scout and communication 4-6 task groups 1x baltic group 2-3x Mediterranean groups 1-2x far east battle groups I replace the 1x battleships with 4x dreadnaught v1 w 2x 13" 6x 8.9" when they come available

Bit late to watching this, but for context, the destroyer he designs at the end costs the same as about 3 of the HMS Dreadnought, which was the most advanced battleship when she was introduced, and was only built 6 years later.

Existing Finn DDs could be salvaged with a massive refit. I don't have a gaming PC atm, so these are just off-the-cuff suggestions. First, firmly decide that it will NEVER be a gunboat. This will affect all other design choices. Plan A [torpedo/scout/decoy]: A. Reduce Beam & Draught to minimums. This should actually free up tonnage for a high-speed vessel on a not so high-speed hull (for a DD). It will also reduce detectability (and cost). B. Forced Boilers, M-Exp 3 engines, Unbalanced Rudder (Drastic course changes are much more important than maintaining top speed, especially with better engine efficiency). C. Max bulkheads, cramped quarters. You won't ever give it good survivability, but it certainly could be better. Still don't want too many crew for potential suicide missions. D. Reduce Ammo & Torps. Switch from increased AP to Maximum HE. Finn will never excel at toe-to-toe fighting with armored ships ... It can make one high-speed torp/scouting/diversion run and then evacuate the OA. Secondary missions could include herding running enemies back towards your big slow gunboats, chasing unarmed transports, or being held in reserve to sink crippled enemies when the gunboats either switch targets or bypass cripples to go after armed transports. 2" guns already carry extra ammo, they rarely run out even at reduced setting. E. Increase torp size and technology ASAP. F. Get rid of the 5.1" guns and the forward barbette. Side-mount long-barrel 2.x" guns at the back corners of the quarterdeck. G. Move the inboard torpedo launcher to the bow. Make it a double or triple tube ASAP. This will become the primary weapon. It will have a reduced firing arc due to the guns behind it. This is intentional. H. Moved the Control Tower as far FORWARD on the main deck as possible. Put the Secondary Tower immediately behind it. Place two funnels behind that. They should be slightly aft of center for balance. I. Remove all the aft side guns, use a single 2" gun aft to extend the citadel for balance. If it has to go behind the remaining aft torpedo launcher, so be it. If there is not enough room for an aft launcher, so be it. J. Change to Harvey or Krupp armor ASAP. K. Now increase speed, then armor, then armament. (Speed is life. 31.7kn is NOT fast, even in 1900). Start with torps off. Immediately on detecting an enemy capital ship, plot an intercept course. Increase speed to maximum. Vape immediately when detected. Turn torps on around 2-3 km. Launch, turn hard, and then get out if you can. These are best used in pairs or triples. The first one gets the enemy to fire its own torps and turn away, the follow-ups kill it before it can get out of the turn. As gun accuracy increases considerably after 1905, this tactic becomes less viable, so re-refit to plan B. Plan B [cheap mine-layer/colonial frigate]: A. Same. B. Leave boilers, engines, funnel, and rudder alone. Current choices are the cheapest options. Go with them. C. Same. D. Same. E. Irrelevant for this mission. Choose the cheapest option. F & G. Move that barbette mounted 5" to replace the inboard torp launcher. Increase barrel length. This leaves only a single AA gun on the forecastle for balance. Primary & torps both fire aft. H. Same but possibly put the control tower on the quarterdeck. I. Increase mine-laying capability ASAP. Move components around for balance as needed. Add ASW options when subs become an issue. J. Somewhat irrelevant for this mission. Choose either a cheap or an effective option. K. Reduce speed (reduces cost) and range to minimum. Reduced range means less likelihood of getting pulled into encounters. Increase armor (which is cheap), then maybe armament. Because of the 1900 start, 1890s Torpedo Cruisers effectively never existed. This is the next best option for a cheap purpose-built minelayer. It also doesn't take up much harbor tonnage. Park in harbor to lay mines. If engaged, run (or crawl) away.

It seems displacement reduction is based on % of the hull "base" displacement. So if hull was 900 tons and you can reduce it by about 23⅔%, you would get 691 tons. Why 23⅔%, I have no idea :D maybe it depends on hull stats like form? No idea. This game sometimes can be black magic when it comes to calculations

You are missing one important ship(type) fr your RP though: The Kamchatka. Technically a repair ship, but in practice probably also a cruiser of some description. Just light on armament and weird as all hell.

Hi Stealth. Maybe you can track the cost for the transport ships replacement over the campain. Im my last 1900th campain I was ruined comletely because at one war I lost many transport ships and the penalty seems to strack and then I had to pay half my naval funds only to the lost transport ships and I could not keep up my fleet even in war time anymore. Think thats a bug....

Russians never had their own school of shipbuilding, at least until the 60s: first it was "built with the money that Romanovs didn't spend on prostitutes in Paris" (real historical fact, by the way), and after the revolution "Ordered from Italians, because no one else wanted to help with technology".

Your incessant maneuvering with that DD was causing it to have to re-aquire the range all the time. Stay away from the rudder unless you really have to turn.

It was a really challenging campaign. Can survive in it? It is a pity that you abandoned it. This is much more interesting than companies for France or the USA, where there was no challenge at all. PS oh my bad... There are 38 series in this story :) Cool

Arguably second worst situation after Qing China in 1900. Then Ottomans and then Austro-Hungary. Sick men of the world, who doomed themselves to failure and whose inability and opposition to reforms and modernizing led to WWI. Would be cool to see how it affects campaign if at all. No budget, small backwards industry, no ability to domestically produce most components, traditional inability to focus on training and maintenance beyond parade duties, shackled research potential due to marginalized intelegentsia. And add on top 4 separate fronts(Pacific Ocean, Black Sea, Baltic Sea and Arctic), insane amount of travel needed to transfer between them, navy locked down by ice in many regions for majority of the year and historical political climate. Good luck.

@Stealth17Gaming hey stealth ive got a challenge for you: 1940's tech, all CLs, 50 (you) vs 1 (ai), no armor, all speed, HE spam, 5 klick or less engagement distance, no torpedos. Wanna see what happens in a super close in engagement and how many ships you lose.

Im supprised my designs made it. A small explaination to the BB and its design: I could not put the funnel or the tower further back because..game.. I dont know. And the Barbette was there becasue there was a bug were I could place other barbettes once I have at least one of these small barbettes. Another thing, all these errors are due to the last update that gave all my ships errors AGAIN for the third time. AND the game allows towers in the shared designer which you cant use in the campaign, this results in the Error "available" massage. Of cause Ireported all those bugs weeks ago, but they havent been fixed yet. The number behind my name is the design year, just as a information^^ Other than that, is the submission link to the campaign still the same, so I can send in other designs/fixed ones in?

A bit stern-heavy on the Zvonkiy... It feels like the cost of everything this patch is absolutely astronomic. What stood out most to me is how much I have to pay now to actually have armor on my battleships - And seeing the price of a 1900 destroyer jump up by 20% for mounting half an inch of armor just doesn't feel quite right to me... That's a million dollars for 33 tons of armor! I know it's not the most expensive steel can go for, but...
