That first initial photo i'm almost certain was made in Snapmap. Which, I really wish, came back. The community has available modded assets that are accessible to all consoles. (5000+ assets, commands, limit increases for more crazy maps, etc. etc.)

interesting… there’s some wild stuff made in snapmap. custom bosses too! i remember jimmybacon made his version of cultist base before eternal too

@Allstin There's a ton of awesome new stuff, a good few levels I made myself, which SnapMap led to me having over 5000+ hours into the game, haha. I feel like the loss of it to begin with was a major blow for Eternal, as the idea of SnapMap was such a great idea but was met with both an incomplete editor (that after 5 updates was left unfinished) And poor reception to the idea of it as a whole. But I still play it, SnapMap has gotten me into game design, and has introduced me to so many aspects of game design that I still use. A lot of what I learned from SnapMap I use on a project i'm working on in Unreal Engine currently.

@-Jooztin It was made with some models but mostly BSP level geometry made in their internal Idtech editor. They wouldn't have made an internal snapmap [which was a simplified consumer-facing level editor] and would have stuck to developer tools like most development pipelines. Unfortunately we, the public, will never see access to either... RIP Doom Eternal custom maps as a concept. Hopefully Id will return to being more supportive of mapping and other forms of modding in their next game[s].

"Missions skin/style" Dang, I never knew I needed that until now. The classic texture on the gore nest looks amazing.

It's really fun seeing the blockout of big games. I myself usually start with a 2D image (on paper or paint) to get the general design of the level and then I pass it onto the engine to check how it feels and from there I make the adjusments needed as I playtest it until I feel satisfied with the result.

Oh man it would've been cool to play in a retro mode where it changes everything back to the OG textures from the original doom. They had the secret original levels in doom 2016 so it would've been cool to see those back in this type of form

I've always been thinking Doom Eternal's devs made an incredible game. The quality and raw fun + technical optimization feels indicative of devs who seemed to care. This is classic doom testing phase was probably not required for their job description but something done out of actual care for the end product. Feels like a hobbiest-level of dedication. You love to see it man...

That's so awesome. It looks like something straight out of a custom Quake/ Q3A map. I just love how they use classic DOOM and Quake placeholder assets. I'm sure they had their fun during development.

shows the love for the franchise, doesn't it? wanting gameplay first before looks, using classic doom placeholders for certain - this coming from the previous lead level designer! I've spoken with Jason online before, he helped with the 5 marauder easter egg discovery one night (he made the egg), and he's been a stand up guy. everyone at Id that i've spoken with online has been

The recent Blockout vs Final Render trend from the Twitter indie game community has given us some true gems. I was really surprised when I saw this one, really love the OG doom textures being used as placeholders, shows true love and passion for the franchise. Edit: Lol, you can actually see my comment when you're scrolling near the end of the video.

@@Allstin Yup! Doom and Quake were my childhood as well ♥ I always wanted to work at ID when I was a kid, that didn't happen lol, so instead I'm making an indie game using Quake 2's engine :P

and he said it with confidence! i’ve spoken to jason and some other devs before (jason actually dropped hints about finding the 5 marauder easter egg! we talked it through). all positive experiences with any of the guys i talked to that worked at Id during eternal. and mick too
