My brother earned his CDL through trucking company that paid for his training and upon completion he was required under contract to work for them for (if I remember right) about 2 years. If he left on his own accord before then he was on the hook for the full amount of training costs. He honored his end of the bargain and then moved on.

They are receiving free training, there should be a clause in their contract that they have to work that back in time and if they resign early they have to pay back the cost of the training in full or part.

Officers who have served at least 9 years get paid about $110,000 annually. Meanwhile, they barely risk their lives at all, because the county has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. I think the NYPD and LAPD are the ones who deserve this salary.

In these cases law enforcement and firefighting/rescue. For them to work to address loses like this to surrounding communities, communities that shoulder none of the cost in training and pay for these candidates is a good thing. No it’s not illegal for these folks to quit, but there is something wrong with it and a remedy sought. If you spent 100,000 to train an employee only to see that person and others simply quit your business and walk across the street to your competitor to work I’m 100% that would bother you as well.

3000 hardly pays for their first issue of equipment. Recruiting, testing and training is a huge expense for smaller departments. By hiring officers from larger departments, they can pay more in salary and avoid all the overhead costs. This has been a problem for years.
