Nice! If you look at the specs of the Wen vs the HF, the Wen has a considerably larger impeller, and you’d have paid that extra $100 to upgrade the HF dust collector with the Rikon impeller- I have just set up my Wen 3403 and am stoked with it.

That is great to know. If I were to get the HF collector, I would have looked into upgrading the impeller. So that is great the WEN already has a bigger impeller!

Not only do you get the upgraded impeller with the Wen 2403, but I think the motor is a bit more powerful as well. I've long heard the Amp/Voltage rating on the HF means it is far under the 2 HP rating it has, whereas the Wen 3403 even requires a NEMA 5-20R 20-amp outlet with a 25A circuit breaker to fully power the 16 Amp motor. Bill Pentz actually did some CFM testing on the HF DC and found it to be closer to 500 CFM, while someone else measured the running amperage at 13 amps and another measured between 9 and 10 amps (meaning it's way less than 2 HP as well).

Have you noticed much of difference for how clean the shop is while doing a project? Is the typical coating of dust still all over the shop since installing a dust collector?

I dislike dust very, very much. Installing the dust collector makes a huge, huge difference. when doing a project on the router or table saw, there really is hardly any dust anywhere. Miter saw, still makes dust. And now that I upgraded the dust collector (another video), it's even better.

This is the only video I have found on the WEN 3403. Thanks for posting it! Have you had issues with it tripping the breaker on start-up? Do you have it connected 20A outlet? How many seconds does it take to spin up to full speed once you apply power?

I have had no issues with breakers on start up! 20 Amp circuit. Takes about 2.5 seconds to get up to full speed. I do fire up the dust collector first. When that is running I fire up the table saw. They are on different circuits.

Just purchased one before finding this video. I put mine on a 30A breaker just to mitigate the annoyance of possibly tripping at startup. It doesn't draw 30A at speed so it's not a safety issue. I used 10AWG anyway. Unclear if my piping will impact the startup spike but pumps like to be loaded so if anything it should go down.

What is the diameter of the collector the bag attaches to? I’m thinking of getting this one but I want to put a pleated filter on top

I believe on the inside the measurement was just shy of 20". I upgraded the entire dust collection system (Future video) and used this filter from Wynn: wynnenv.com/products-page/woodworking-filters/35a274blol-cartridge-kit/

@@jacobdean1454 Yeah, It fit perfectly. They offer the Merv 10 and the Merv 15.
