Did you have it on eco mode? I have a 2 car driveway and made it 3/4 of the way and the batteries died. I had about 18” of snow in fairness. It had plentyyyyy of power but the batteries didn’t seem to last at all.

@@victorraye57 that’s weird. Yeah I fully charged the batteries and had it on full speed auger and full speed on the wheels and died pretty quickly. The 2nd time around I lowere the speed to eco on the auger and the wheels to low and it seemed to run longer but at that point I did a small walk way so not really sure. Seemed like 18” of snow and everything on full turbo drained the batteries quick.

I bought this after your review. This 70 year old guy has now used this snow blower in 5 storms, and I love this machine. The last storm turned to freezing rain, and it struggled with the heavy, wet 8" accumulation. But the next morning with temps around 15F, it chewed right through the remaining stuff. I do a 250' gravel driveway on a steep hill, and it performs wonderfully. I can do the entire driveway and a good-sized parking area at the top with one charge of the 7.5 ah batteries when it's powder. It took me 3 full charges for his latest storm with the heavy snow, but the charger gets the recharge done in under 2 hours, a good respite for these old bones so I don't overdo it. It does throw the snow really far. And it's quiet, too. No more oil changes. No more petrol. Easy to operate, If you don't mind the price, you will love this machine. Thanks for the recommendation.

Purchased this blower a month ago and the thing is a beast! I’ve only had to use it twice in about 6-8 inches of (CO) snow and it cleared my driveway on the ECO setting (lowest setting) with no problem. I got to play around with the Turbo setting and it definitely was helpful to get the snow over the snow banks piled up on either side of my 32’ driveway (2 car garage) and still had 4/5 lights on my battery remaining. I never post reviews but after debating researching for hours between the 2-stage and single stage ego blower I’m very pleased with my purchase. This KZfaq review was spot on!

I’m impressed again. I work with property maintenance and was using backpack blowers to maintain the property. After getting tired of lugging it around, cold starts, and noise level. I looked into battery powered blowers. After doing some research, it came down to Ego and Milwaukee. Both priced at 299. Went with Ego, 56 volts. Same battery as the snowblower above. But only comes with one and charger that is fan cooled. Was concerned with battery life and performance. 250 unite complex. Breezeways, mulch, etc, it handled it like a champ. Very light, easy to handle with one hand. Definitely would go with the 650 cfm vs the smaller version. Moving to that platform for cordless outdoor equipment looks promising.

I have it! It's awesome. The ability to turn down the blade speed is so awesome when you don't need to throw it anywhere other than the side. No clogging problems, other than slush... But that's gonna happen no matter what you've got. Sorry Vince, a couple things you forgot to mention in this otherwise nearly prefect video... You don't need to hold down the power button to start the blower, just press it before you engage the auger/blower. Once you've got that engaged, and you start to move it under power, you can let go of the auger lever and use your other hand to control where the snow goes and how fast you're going. When you release the drive lever, it releases the auger lever as well.

I brought this model earlier in the year and have been impressed with it. We have a winter storm come through. “Probably the same on this is filmed in.” It does great in large amounts of snow, but struggles when it comes to layers of sleet mixed in with the snow. I think it’s to be expected though. Overall it’s amazing. Charge it and the batteries hold a full charge for 30 days. Use it once enough snow falls. Charge it over night. Clear the remaining snow in the morning. 5 out of 5. IMO. Great review Vince.

I have the neighbors walks plowed and they are happy! The blower chute does not lock in place and will move while operating. EGO has a free piece that you can have sent to you. It’s easy to install. You can also adjust the very top of the blower chute to point down so it only shoots snow towards the ground about 1-2 feet.

EGO already came out with the fix for the drifting chute. Easy to install. I have used the snowblower just once in about 6 inches of heavy, wet snow with a layer of ice at the bottom and I was impressed with the way it moved the snow and the throwing distance. It even cleared away the 18 inches or so of snow and ice that the plows left in front of my driveway. I was a bit disappointed in the battery life, but I was probably running the auger speed higher than I needed to. Next time I will set it in the middle and hopefully that extends the battery life.

Very similar experience here ("Golden Snowball" usual winner area - lake effect). Notes: I don't know why, but I had the same gut feeling as Vince, until I used it. In my situtation battery life takes over becoming THE premium option. I almost don't believe this but I have had fine blowing with it set just into the first bar above low. I really wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it myself. This is absolutely huge when it comes to battery life - again MUCH more than I would have guessed.

I know. It is pathetic. I could go 1 month without grocery shopping at any given time. Except maybe for milk which I can do without if necessary. Why people think they can not manage for 3 days or a week without shopping. Most storms never kept people in for more than a few days anyway. I have a dozen loafs of bread in one freezer. eggs last for a couple of weeks. But then again most of those fools don't buy shovels until a storm, snowblowers or generators until the last minute rather than just having one already all year round and keep them on hand. Same goes with salt/calcium.

This. He goes from "I don't know why you would ever want to slow down the auger" immediately to discussing how the long throw distance makes the throw direction so important. 🤦‍♂️
@ariip
@ariip 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessary. I can use deflector to aim snow downward to the ground next to the machine or away from places if necessary avoid hitting things. Use an older gas snapper 1030. Slowing it down will increase risk of sticking and clogging in chute and in impeller housing since this ego like many have impeller gaps. Since I installed impeller kits in mind, I have no gaps and can throw water and slush. If you keep on top of your control and direction it is not necessary and is just another thing to have to deal with that you should not have to. That is why they did away with throttle controls on many gas lawn equipment devices such as push lawnmowers- not necessary.

We live in Western Michigan and yes, 'it snows here' :-) Last weekend (Nov 17-20,2022) we got 30". It was the first test of my 2 Stage Ego. Side note: I am a big EGO fan, and I own the E6 Zero turn, two leaf blowers, the weed whacker with chainsaw attachment, and even a chainsaw. I love them all. So to complete my transition to electric I acquired the Ego two stage blower this fall. The lights are great, the handle adjusts to a comfortable height for my 6'5" frame and the controls are easy to use and logical. The lack of heated handles as not an issue as I didn't need to grip tightly as I did with my previous gas powered unit. The EGO unit is light, about half the weight of that gas powered two stage unit, making it super easy to maneuver. So when the snow began to fall I was ready! ... or so I thought. The thing was an absolute fail in wet snow. No matter what I did, the unit would blow for a few feet and then the snow would just pile up in front of it, turning it into a plow. I tried going slow, and going fast, even up to full speed. I tried going even faster than that by simply pushing the unit. I ran the blower part it full turbo the entire time. I would have to back up then 'charge' into the pile hoping it would get pulled into the auger. When it did, it chewed it up and blew it out, that much was good. However, when it began acting like a plow again, the remaining snow in the spout would quickly freeze. After a couple of these cycles the spout was frozen solid. I have been blowing snow for approaching 50 years and have cleared a frozen spout perhaps a dozen times in those years, until this past weekend when I cleared this thing dozens of times. Having to provide a clearing shovel on top of the unit should have been 'a clue'. ;-) Our driveway is about 200 ft long about half 1 car wide and half two cars wide. In the first three clearings, of about 8" each, I went through the supplied 7.5AH batteries as well as nearly tapped out a set of 10 AH batteries from my Z6. The fourth and final clearing WAS better than the first three as the snow was a bit drier and didn't built up in front of the machine. It only plugged one time, and I managed to finish on one set of 7.5AH batteries. There was about 6" of snow to clear. For me, the EGO blower is on 'two strikes' so It's going to have to redeem itself. Admittedly this was an above average event, even for West Michigan, and a very early season storm. Compounding that, our driveway (asphalt) and the ground beneath it, was rather warm thus turning the bottom layer of the heavy wet snow nearly to slush. So we'll see how it gets on with upcoming snow that may not be grade a 'Snow Man Quality' snow. Edit: It is now Jan 6 of 2023 and I have used the EGO on two additional snowfall events. Neither was the super wet stuff on a base of slush of the first event. For both recent events it did not plug ag all, nor did it turn itself into a plow. I was still disappointed with battery life having to use both a set of 7.5s and a set of 10Ah batteries to complete my drive each time. I was moving significant snow, 8 to 10 inches and it actually handled that snow rather impressively. It handled the end of the drive where the county plow leaves the 'bonus snow' well also. It might work out after all. Note: All my batteries are charged and kept in the basement where it is approx 55 degrees. Excessive cold hurts battery life, and charging below freezing is a no-no.

Hi Larry. I had problems with that snowfall also. It was the first time I had plugging problems...this will be its third winter and so far I've been real happy with it. @@smexTTS It's as good as any gas snowblower I've ever had. I've only had problems once....and the bottom layer was rain/snow slush. Gas will always have the advantage over a battery snowblower. I am glad the lithium tech is getting better, but with the deep heavy snow, the weights of a gas powered machine is what the EGO does not have. Wet heavy snow is the real test. Gas engines are better for now. EGO might work great on flat surfaces and moderate snow depths.

Vince I love your videos on Milwaukee battery tools and they have helped me immensely. Now lets get real about the Honda Snowblower being a great deal of maintenance. I own 2 of them. 1 is a 15 year old single stage that I have changed the oil on 2 times in 15 years. The other is a 2 stage 13HP similar to yours and is a 2016 model which I have never had to change the oil yet. I live in Wisconsin so we get plenty of snow. They both start every year without issues and all you have to do is turn the gas valve off and run them till they stop then turn the screw to drain the carb. Run premium gas with no ethanol and you will never have an issue. Lets see how many batteries at 350 dollars a crack for 1 you go through in 15 years. I certainly doubt the gas and oil I use will cost near as much and the Honda will have way more power than the Ego. Yes I understand that a Honda costs a lot more up front but I believe even a cheaper Areins will cost more and run longer.

Ego sent a part to correct the chute moving on its own, we got it and the problem is now fixed. Just register yours on their website and they'll send it to you. Furthermore, you get about twice the battery capacity if you keep it in the lowest auger speeds instead of turbo and it doesnt throw as far when you're in tight spaces. Dont worry about it clogging up, we got about 8 inches of wet heavy snow today here in Canada and it did amazing and never had to go turbo.

I just picked up the ego 21in select cut mower at Home Depot yesterday on clearance for 314$ for the kit with 7.5 amp hour battery and rapid charger. Been wanting one for the past year and I couldn’t pass that deal up. Now I just need spring to come to PA

I have 2 older snapper snowblowers which are gas 10hp 30in (model 1030 from big frame series) and they like many newer machiness on the market have single handle control. This is something ego should have put in. Especially since those handles might be electronic anyway and not have to use cables since it is electric. On my snappers, this allows you, once you depress both drive and auger handles it then locks one to the other through a cable catch. Then you can release your hand from one and the other will keep both activated, freeing your right hand to be able to use it to turn the chute or adjust your deflector. Thereby keeping drive and auger going from the one handle at that point. When you let up just slightly on that one handle then it releases the other if you want it to disengage. Using the deflector to point the snow down besides your path or in a localized area is something you should have done to keep the snow from going somewhere you did not want it to. Drop the angle of the head down so the snow would land beside the machine along the edge of street without going in the street or wherever you could leave it. I can leave snow in little controlled areas if necessary between the sidewalk or street or on a lawn without reaching the front door etc. My machines can clear a lawn or telephone lines etc. If the 2nd stage or impeller has metal blades you should also consider adding an impeller kit as I have done on my machines. It will create extra friction reducing battery life until they wear in but will seal the gap which is how I can throw water with my machines and slushy water.

for me it's a snowdrift when it's caused by wind/natural. a snowbank is when it has been pushed into a pile. not saying your wrong or that I'm right, just what's common for me in southern ontario.

My question is maintenance related...do you have to clean the blades or change them yearly? And how well does the batter last if I turn it to turbo mode on 4 car driveway, and/or drive way entrance?

I spray the chute and auger area with cooking oil. It minimizes any clogging issues.

The shoot does have a repair kit, other than that to solve your other issue with the controls. If you turn on the auger 1st and then turn on the drive it will lock the auger on and at that point you can release the handle and use your right hand to control the shoot and throw height adjuster. It takes some getting used to. For the kit go to EGO and make sure you register your tool and let them know you have an issue.

Was able to unbox the snow blower without tearing up the box. Secured loose chute and padded it to prevent damage to it, then turned box on its end (where tires are) and with fingers on treads applied traction inside box to work its way out of the box (also had to tug some on box around blades).

Hey Vince make sure to call ego there is a plate that clips ontop of the gears under the box where the extra pins are. It takes 2 seconds to install and ego will ship it for free. The plate rests on the gears for the shoot so it doesn’t drift and it took like 3 days for them to deliver that plate. Also I live in MN and the machine worked flawless during our Xmas snow storm!

"You would do what everyone else does, wait for the snow warning" Nope, it's August and I'm shopping for a replacement right now. The wife? She'd wait until the day after the snow buried us and ask "what do we do". I on the other hand is already making my list for Christmas gifts and shopping for a snowblower.

i live in Long island and boy was this a good year to buy this item, seams like I'm using it every 3 days, love the power, just one thing i wish EGO should have done was to include the 10 amp batteries with this unit, seams like I'm always just running out of power in the end and I have to reach for my other batteries I have. although it sounds great that I can do that but i find that they don't last nearly enough as the 7.5 batteries this comes with. looking forward to the zero turn mower coming up this spring, than i can use those massive batteries on the snow blower in the winter.

Got to have money for this! I have weedeater and hedge trimmer and they are expensive as all get out. My wife likes both as do I. It is like buying a expensive car. You only do it if you can afford it. Not sure on life of batteries. My two stage snow thrower is 25-30 years old and still works great. I got it used and never had a problem starting it up. Got to have money for convience.
