Enve has added the new Fray endurance road bike to its range and I’ve been riding it for a couple of weeks, including the 160m Tour of Flanders sportive in Belgium. Buckle in for my first ride impressions and all the main details on this new bike from the US company.

I ordered my Fray in Venom a few days ago; I can't wait to see it built up. Yeah, its more than I ever wanted to spend on a bike, but it's the closest match to the perfect bike than anything out there, period. If I can enjoy it for 10 years, it will be a great investment. I'm hoping the downtube storage, tire clearance and higher stack will help it age well against future bike offerings. I do think ENVE has correctly predicted the features most of us retired racers and long ride smashers want to ride as our "first choice bike" and it's sure to be copied and offered at more affordable prices by others in the next 5 years. I couldn't afford it now, but I hope to run two wheelsets to get two bikes for one, SES 4.5s/29mm for mostly tarmac rides and SES 3.4s/38mm for my dirtier rides.

Nice bike. But the price of the frameset alone is astronomical. …A more affordable yet equally capable alternative is the Cervelo Aspero gravel race bike with GRX groupset, the complete bike is only 4,400GBP. Aspero stack height is in between Enve Melee and Fray with a slightly longer wheelbase, same tyre clearance. The Cervelo Aspero is an amazing all-road bike effectively in the same category as Fray, for less than half the price of the Fray frameset.

Once you build this bike up you'll have spent enough to buy a road bike and gravel specific bike from Giant, Canyon, etc.

I like it, virtually everything about it. I'd much rather ride something like this than a race bike, any day. these new endurance bikes are genuine quiver killers which is one of the best things you can say about a bike.

Looks great. Size 58 would be perfect for me. I think at that price, I would feel the need to baby it. My view of bikes has changed. Now, I believe buying middle quality, price, etc. And ride the hell out of it.

I'd classify this as simply perfect if that cables were not hidden inside the stem. I'd love this bike a do-it-all, including gravel. But my position in the road and on gravel changes. I want a more relaxed position in gravel. For that I'd need to swap stems. With the cabbles inside the stem... no luck doing that. Thus... it is no longer a do-it-all. It is a single purpose bike again

@@davidarthur Would be very intrested in your take on the new BMC Roadmachine 01 vs the Enve Fray vs The Giant Defy SL - whats the weight of the Fray build you tested? (Ah found it below 7,8 with Ultegra) Should be possible to go very close to 7 kg with a SRAM axs 1x12 build.

The frame set only in Korea is 8,500,000KRW 😂 These companies are trying to outdo each other on how much they can charge! Specialized drive me crazy with their prices, but I could buy an SL8 Expert model (yes, I know it’s not an endurance bike, 7,900,000KRW) with an electronic group set and carbon wheels and still have money left over to buy a high end helmet and some clothing. Roubaix pro is 7,920,000KRW, again with money left over! I know I’m not their target audience, but they’re still dreaming! Some people have money to burn, I guess.

I know this is a personal opinion, but I occasionally have to ride on cobbles in D.C. around Georgetown and parts of Northern VA. I f***ing hate it. Hate isn't even strong enough a word. I personally could never ride an event that is predominantly cobbles. My head would explode in anger, lol

Would never buy Enve kit here in the UK as the prices are ridiculously over inflated compare to the US. I mean why would you pay £3,350 for SES 4.5 wheels when they are €2,850 in the US. Thats without taking the exchange rate into account.
