This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit the parish of Hyde in the North West of the Forest (about 2 miles to the East of Fordingbridge & 7 or 8 miles to the North of Ringwood) and explore the surrounding area.
My 5.5 mile (approx) starts at the Church of Holy Ascension in Hyde after which I head North East across the Hyde cricket pitch (where I had parked my car) over some wonderful heathland to Frogham where I check out the Foresters Arms (known as the “Donkey pub”) and Blissford Hill - venue of the annual Frogham Fair Wheelbarrow race!
I then head South to Gorley Common & Gorley Hill - which was once the site of an Iron Age Hill Fort - and drop down to cross Huckles Brook. My walk then takes me past Heywood Sumner House (full of history & now a care home) and up Cuckoo Hill from where I get to enjoy some superb views over Chibden Bottom. I follow the ridge to Robin Hood's Clump for some of the most beautiful scenic views in the New Forest.
After a short rest, I head back down off the ridge and past both Furze Hill & Dorridge Hill before heading back to Gorley Common & the Hyde cricket pitch. At the end of the walk, Logan & I pop in to the Potting Shed Cafe for a “mini breakfast”!

Hi Dave We followed in your footsteps on this walk yesterday but started and ended in Godshill. We had blue skies and amazing views from Robin Hoods Clump where we had a packed lunch. Without your video we would never have thought of the walk so thanks for your insight!

Love this video. My Dad lived with his grandmother in N Gorley during the 2nd ww and went to school in Hyde. I know he used to play in Huckels Brook and at Robin Hood's clump so it was great to see them in this video.

Thanks Dave. A well earned breakfast. I'm thoroughly enjoying working my wat through the "New Forrest Walk" playlist series. My parents live in Hythe so I know the area fairly well, it certainly is unusual to see parts of the Forrest so quiet in July.

I love it when one Ford meets another at 19.56. Lovely video Dave as always. You look so content being with your best friend. I thought I heard you say HYTHE not HYDE at the beginning but of course that's next to Folkestone an area I knew very well. I haven't been there for 50 years. A bientôt mon ami!.

Nice one Dave. I’m always impressed by your continuity with Logan. When you are walking towards the camera, obviously you have to pause and turn the camera around, before continuing. However you both approach, you always maintain the same order as you walk way. And, you’ve never got it wrong. That food in the cafe looked rather nice. I seen cotton grass before, but not in the New Forest. You were in n area I’m not familiar with, so I learned a few more things.

Thanks Lionel. It helps that Logan does competitive obedience and we have done so many films together now, he knows where he needs to be. Indeed he often gets it right & I get it wrong! The Potting Shed Cafe is well worth a visit if you are in the area and I can certainly recommend their "mini brekky"!

It’s always a complete seamless walk through. I hadn’t realized Logan was controlling you. Ha, ha.
