Just surpassed the 2.5 year mark with my S5. Perfect phone until-one morning, after leaving my phone on the window sill all night (cold during winter months in Canada), I attempted to turn on the phone. Same flickering as you saw here at the lowest brightness, even with auto-brightness unchecked. What I do notice, is that the phone is now quite sensitive in cold temperatures. If I put my hand to the screen and it is cold, you can bet the screen won't turn on without flickering a yellow/red hue. Message lights still turn on. The developer fix does not work for me. No software "fixes" have worked as mentioned in the video. The phone works normal in a higher brightness once it gets up and running. Only solution to the yellow/red hue fix that prevents me from using the phone after exposed to the slightest cold temperature, I've found, is warming the screen with my hands/placing it on my body to warm up. I cannot use my phone outside at all, or if I leave it to cool after not using it for a couple hours (aka leaving it off overnight). So I talked with Samsung and they act as though they do not know about this issue. Why else with so many complaints have they not addressed this yet? They suggested I replace the screen for $200, which then the warranty for that fix only covers it for 3 months AND to quote "everyone drops their phone, that's probably it, even I drop my phone sometimes". There should be more available information about this, especially since it's so wide spread. Anyone know of any recalls on this? ..My friend switched his phone due to this exact problem... I had not dropped my phone, but perhaps the coldness disturbed the operating parts, if software. Reading over some reviews, the issue persists. Needless to say, I didn't replace the screen. And my phone is out of warranty. I'm not a tech savvy person, just telling you all what I know. Please let me know of any phones you recommend for colder climates. The issue with my phone (and yours will too) is that it gets progressively worse, currently on the lowest brightness it's not just flickering, but also yellow lines now form horizontally across the screen. I will more than likely go back to my S2, if not temporarily, as it was at least sturdy & reliable in the Canadian climate.

I have no idea why some Samsung phones do this because mine does this and even worse when the screen is too low and I click the power button to lock it, sometimes when I try to turn it back on and all the happens is the screen flashes very brightly and the only way I can turn my phone on is by taking the battery in and out of my phone.

This helped so much... my Samsung Galaxy S5 does the same thing but when the brightness is low.. all I did was turn my brightness up and it stopped

You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer" Come back to Home Screen, and then go back to Settings >> system >> Now you will see the "Developer Options" Now go to Developer options >> Drawing Section or Rendering Section >> Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays" >> This will force the phone to always use GPU for screen adjustments. no more flickering.

Mine does the same thing, but has now started to flicker even when the screen isn't green. I found that turning the phone off, taking the battery out and putting it in again seems to solve the problem. Not permanently though.

This has just started happening to mine last week. It happens mostly when the phone's locked (at any brightness). I have tried rebooting my phone - doesn't make any difference. If you find a fix, please let me know. A screen filter does help too for at night time.

Kinda weird. Over the past week or so, I've heard a lot people are having the same problem, myself included. It's not nearly as bad as this phone though. It was ever since I installed marshmallow about two weeks ago.

It is a software issue. You will have to keep the phones brightness to the max until Samsung sends another firmware update.

This happened to me when I washed it in the rain. Screen totally damaged afterwards, but indeed playing with auto-lights changed the situation.

Use phone at full brightness for a month if you have this issue on a original s5 screen it works if it doesn't disable hardware overlay LOW BRIGHTNESS DEGRADES THE SCREEN so change it to high more often I hope this works😊

Common problem with the S5. Had the same. Also a major problem in cold temperatures. Impossible to switch on the screen or take calls when cold. Phone is unusable in winter. My local repairer said it was uneconomic to replace the screen. Solution - launch the piece of crap that is the S5 into the trash or keep as a spare for the Summer.

Mine is 100% the exact same problem. Took it to Samsung for repairs. Still under the 24month warranty, & 7 months for warranty to expire

hi i have a j5 Samsung and i had same problem how i fix it? Well you wont believe 😄 i go to settings and display option then screen mode i put basic ,brightness on middle then to device info and then to device name i click on that and clear all what was written there and i write just Z i restart phone and now it works well but still some low flickering oh to not forget put also basic a wallpaper on lock and home screen. Hey , I just fixed mine! I opened it up wiggled arround the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard and boom it looks amazing now ! God how I miss those lovely amoled colors! I even got the chance to clean my front camera . :)

I think i know what is the problem. But i do not have ideea how to fix it. Try to press the display down around the speaker and the flicker will stop. It's about display contact i think is coroded or is not fixed well.. If someone try this please leave here an answer to know if that is problem. Another solution is to put your phone with display faced on heating source this problem will be done for a short time, because the display contacts will be dilated and the contact is much strong.
