The audio quality on this is not as good as I'd like so if you want to hear a more accurate recording of my actually sound check out my Give it One recording posted after this video. I recorded this a while back, but I am much better than I was during that last recording, so I wanted to record it again. I can still play it much better but it is nice to see progress

Just wanted to say, if you look at Louis Dowdeswell’s videos from when he started his KZfaq journey, he literally has a lot of recordings like this where he covers charts from the greats. They were not all perfect and Louis knew that, BUT he knew that would be a way for him to get practice, experience, and confidence. Look at where Louis is today. Sure there was a lot of formal teaching along the way and gigs, but making these kinds of videos was one of the keys that transformed him from just a kid to someone who could potentially be one of those trumpet players recording movie soundtracks for the next 20-30 years. If I had any advice, it would be don’t give up on it. Part of the nature of trumpet playing is when you play one note, you’ve got 100+ people coming up saying they could do it better, but you’re the one putting in the work. Stay true to you and continue to work and I think you could achieve whatever goal you set for yourself.

Thank you! I definitely have a long way to go but I have gotten a lot better since this recording. Louis has helped me a ton with my playing and even recorded one of his arrangements with me. I don't plan on giving up anytime soon haha

Hey Luke! You have a solid sound but here are a couple of things I believe could help you sound more like a lead player. Focus on your pitch in the upper register. When you were playing with Eric and Wayne, you weren't quite matching intonation. Practice with a drone and really lock in the pitches. As a lead player, you have to be perfect on pitch every time, all the time. Going sharp just makes your life harder. Second thing is to listen how you start and end every note. Most often, you're playing too conservatively in these areas, especially releases. The lead player attitude is that you are always right, even if you're wrong...but never be wrong. Listen to Wayne, Eric, and Louis Dowdeswell along with the old Basie and Sinatra recordings.

@@lukeplayslead5349 Awesome! I play on a 3C right now, my range gets capped around high Es and Fs, do you know how this would correlate to this mouthpiece? I’ve tried a schickle 14a4a and a marcinkiewicz mouthpiece as well. Both of these have allowed me to get into the double register with ease but then it’s almost like I’m capped after a few minutes of playing and I can’t put any more air through this mouthpiece, it’s like I can’t even play anymore. Does this lead mouthpiece do this at all or no?
@officialmcrock
@officialmcrock Жыл бұрын
@@TrumpetJosh231 It's all about the control of your airflow, sure a different model of mouthpiece that is categorized as a lead would definitely make it a little easier, but you lose some of the versatility with something like a Schilke

@@lukeplayslead5349 I also play on a 3C. And so does Arturo Sandoval. I like to compare myself to Sandoval. I play on a 3C and my trumpets, like his, are all made of metal. But that's where the comparison ends.

It varies from person to person how well a mouthpiece works they aren’t one size fits all. For example I play on a Warburton 10 D as my main mouthpiece and a Warburton 10 SV for lead work. Those mouthpiece are extremely small and I’ve never been able to play on a 3C or even a 7C they feel huge to me. Meanwhile my buddy plays on a 3C and he would say a 7C is too small. Everyone’s different
