I bought this set and used it for the first time on my truck without issue. Im no professional mechanic but ive done all the work on all 3 of my honda. Each over 200k miles and ive worked on cars for 20 years. I see no issue, metal and casting looked sharp and clean. The engravings are clear and easy to read and the case is very well put together. They were easy to clean and it seems to have all the sizes i needed to work on my truck. Lifetime warranty. Ive used the same Husky set for the last 10 years. I think people just get caught up in branding. Im pretty satisfied with this set and i will buy the 1/4 and 1\2 to complete the set. I feel like it was a good invest and i can see these holding up another 10 years. I also own the 3/8 flex head from icon and its done a fine the dozen or so times ive used it on my cars and trucks. Icon seems to make good professional tools in my opinion.

Glad to hear your set is holding up. Yes, the castings are typically nice a clean for most Icons. I liked most of what i saw except for the binding of the anvil in the head. Unfortunately they are starting to cut corners and I'm willing to bet your set is also missing the washer that keeps the appropriate tension on the anvil/ head.

I think the non chamfer corners might be better for the extentions male/female fitment. (No unusable space). Whereas chamfer in the actual socket where meets the bolt head is better for, and easier for access.

I would love to get ICON sockets but they are just a little out of my price range right now, maybe if they ever go on sale. Thanks for sharing. Like most guys I would love to buy the better tools but for what I need them for I am better off with the cheaper brands. I just bought a ratchet set from TEKTON and they are really good and TBH they are the FIRST non-cheap hand tools I ever bought and I have very happy with them. As time goes on I am sure I will end up buying either ICON or TEKTON sockets and wrenches. Gear wrench is not too bad either, as far as Snap-On or MAC, I highly doubt I will ever own any of those brands unless I buy used.

I don't know this this is standard for the professional grade tools or not but I love how they did the blow molded case with the foam inserts so you could put it in your toolbox if you got to run do something take it out of your toolbox and put it into your blownload case and take it with you and have it not bouncing around like most that was why I was considering the Tang tools for a little while but I think the price is a bit too high when you can compare it to Sonic tools for very close

this and the 1/4 set, would be good for tools to take to the junkyard for pulling parts. tho, on both sets i feel like they could add a long handle ratchet, perhaps flexhead ratchets,and a complete extension set, for a little more money, it would a really great set. be interested to see if they come out with a 1/2 set and what that would have in it

What are the dimensions of the foam? And I wonder if they’ll have a metric only kit. I’ll take the less chamfer. Stress risers on that portion of the socket are unlikely under most use. Those wondering wtf the foam thing is about, you can thank the aerospace industry and /or 5S. ANYTHING that isn’t supposed to be on a plane is considered Foreign Object Debris (FOD). So we have tool accountability. One of the ways we accomplish this is with foamed shadow boards, with contrast typically, so we can see at a glance that something is missing. It doesn’t prevent it 100% but it does help tremendously.

@@dylanplagmann5236 no chamfer on a socket is purely a cost cutting measure. There is no benefit to not doing it. It will not make a socket fit tighter on a ratchet. The fitment is determined by tolerances within the square drive cut out itself and how it meets with the tolerances of the anvil of the ratchet. Chamfer is preferred because it allows more slip or angle when applying the socket to the ratchet. It makes it easier to put the socket on the ratchet because it doesn't have to line up so perfectly . Also don't tell people what they can and cannot think.

It is a good carry around set but the foam trays do feel more like it’s meant for a tool box. There are also more compact cases out there. I like the labeling and construction of the box but it could have been more compact and better laid out.

It would have been nice if they laser cut that top layer with all the numbers of the sockets so it would shine through red so you could see clearly what you were grabbing or what was missing instead of it being black on black and blending in but yet have nice red accent and everywhere else stupid
@thingsmen
@thingsmen 2 ай бұрын
Agreed. That would have been an improvement. Instead they were just pressed in by a heated die.

@@thingsmenother 3/8 offerings from gearwrench, Milwaukee, capri tools, Tekton. 150 seems way too high for what should be a set for 99. ETA, if you are around the 150 price, why not get the 3/8 and 1/4 full set of gearwrench from Home Depot. That would be the best comparison around that price point

Foam trays looks nice, but just like the foam trays of ALL manufacturers there is so much wasted space......

They could have done a little better but coming from HF this is a big step in. The right direction. I’m more putting off by the decline in quality. 😔

Never seen one that bare. They might keep a lot in the back area and not on the shelves. You can check your local inventory on the HF phone app.

Not a bad idea if it’s been working out well so far. I do like the return policy of HF and haven’t had to go that route with my fewer Tekton tools.

The gearwrench 3/8 set from Amazon is much cheaper, the 56pc 3/8 Milwaukee set that often goes for 99 at Home Depot is also better than the icon. That junk icon set isn’t worth the price even if you consider a 20-30% rare coupon off
