So glad I opted for the mask over the oil during the Sephora sale! I’ve been such a huge Olaplex fan (using #3 weekly for a year) it really helps reinvigorate my curl pattern, but I wanted to see what all the K18 fuss was about and WOW! My curls are bouncy and so soft. I love that it only needs 4 minutes to work instead of leaving my Olaplex on for 10-20 minutes. I also took your advice in your K18 video and used my normal conditioner after the K18 mask and my hair felt so soft. Very excited to keep using this product.

Hi! I bought the oil when it came out of excitement for another K18 product - I of course love the mask, and the shampoos have given me fantastic results, too. I tried this oil on wet hair first, but I used too much I think, definitely left my dry hair looking oily, but easily fixed with some dry shampoo. Tried using on dry hair later in the week after styling, but only used 1 drop, and the results were great. Moral of the story for me: do NOT overuse this product, they really aren’t kidding in the directions!! 1 drop really is more than enough most of the time, even if it seems like there is no product on your hands, there is! But at least I now know the 1 ounce of product will last ages, so justifies the price more.

Thanks Abbey! I have been using the K 18 mask since January. I just started using the oil when I use the mask in the past few weeks. It makes a huge difference on frizz! My results have been great. For those who feel like the mask is too drying for your hair I learned the hard way it’s because I was putting too much of the mask on my hair. I also only use it every 3-4 washes. It is making a difference.

I agree. The K18 mask is best used sparingly. I have thick, really long hair so I used 4 pumps the first time and it was an awful experience. Learned my lesson and now use 3 pumps after every 2-3 washes and absolutely use a conditioner or conditioning mask after each use.

@@amalieha I’ve actually never used the olaplex oil, but from my knowledge they do different things. The olaplex oil is geared towards maintaining the disulfide bonds. I’ve heard it’s ok but if you’re not using the olaplex line, I don’t think it’s going to do a whole lot since it’s meant to be used as a supplemental product to the rest of the line. Now the shu oil. Is it expensive? Yes. But the large one lasted me an entire year when using it on every single one of my clients. A little goes a long way. They also sell a smaller one that’s more affordable that even that one you can make it last at least 6 months. I have naturally fine, frizzy curly hair. Just a pea size (sometimes less) helps balance the moisture levels, smoothes and nourishes my hair so much. It also works as a heat protectant on top of it allegedly having some UV protecting properties. I recommend it to all of my clients and every single one has been impressed with how silky, shiny and soft their hair feels after using it.

@@amalieha also the large shu uemura oil is 5oz for the same price of the k18 that only gives you about 1oz. Then the small shu uemura oil is $28 for 1oz while the olaplex oil is $29. From what I’ve heard, people go through the olaplex oil way faster than the shu. Shu products in general are way more concentrated so like I said earlier, a little goes a long way 😊

Hi Abbey! I love your content and how you’re dedicated to the science behind products, trying to balance giving us an objective and subjective perspective. But it just occurred to me that since you’ve already been through your hair health journey, and you’ve figured out how to get your hair looking strong n healthy, it’s kinda hard to isolate any variable in your informal… “experiments”. I mean to say, with hair care products, it’s difficult to accurately discern how effective a product is because you’ve already achieved good results. What about if you tried hair repair products on friends or family who are just starting out, so we can see a before n after on someone who desperately needs it? Just a thought!

I agree with you. I don’t think the before and after videos she does with testing a new shampoo, for example, when she shows her hair greasy before washing, and then shows what her hair looks like after washing with the new shampoo makes any sense. After one wash with a new product her hair is going to look healthy and exactly the same as it usually does because her hair is already healthy. Lol. So for me, some of her content is helpful and some of it doesn’t make as much sense. Unless something is incredibly damaging, we’re not going to see much of a change on her hair. 😬

I agree. I have to say that I enjoyed watching her journey to healthy hair over the years. I found this channel years ago when she was filming in a room with two doors behind her and I MARVELED that she was talking about how to get healthy hair - because her hair was the encyclopedic definition for damaged hair. It was multi-colored orange and grey, bleached white and with all of the shine completely stripped, it was stringy and lifeless. I actually thought she was going to have to shave her head and start over. I quit watching her channel because I was afraid that her advice would lead to hair that looked like hers. It was bad. The fact that her hair looks good now (even tho she still bleaches and colors it) is a testament to what is working.
@REP090

Completely agree. I find many tips, especially on certain products, no longer apply to those with damaged hair. It's hard to ascertain results on already very healthy hair. I recently started using the Living Proof triple bond complex after the rec and it did absolutely nothing for my hair. I also got the octocurl and it's very hard to get good results if your hair isn't already pretty silky and non-damaged. I usually take the info with a grain of salt. I personally would use this when the hair is damp only to get the benefits of the peptide (especially on non-K18 weeks after the initial 6 week application) and some moisturisation from the oils but use a silicone based product when my hair is dry to further encapsulate the hair and control frizz. I'm not sure the oil is worth it if you're already using the K18 treatment.

Bumble and bumble has a bond repair oil/serum for damaged cuticles and repair breakage and it is a good product . Was going to try the k18 oil but decided not to. Wasn't that impressed with the mask.

I loved the mask so I immediately bought the oil when it went live 😂 tbh I am trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my routine. I’m looking for a leave in cream to mix it with after washing.

I used K18 hair mask 4 times max, then my hair became brittle. Quit using it and still trying to get back original texture of my hair. Not impressed.

That's really interesting. I was visiting my mother recently and she had a bottle of the K18 mask so I tried it. I'm generally an olaplex gal but I thought the results were really nice. I had also just used purple shampoo and the combo was pretty drying but I just put some olaplex #6 on top after rinsing and my hair blew out beautifully. I'm trying to decide whether to purchase K18 mask Thanks for your input

I've used the k18 treatment 4 times now and I'm not feeling it. After Each use, I find that I see a lot more of flyway hairs. I do find my hair seems A little brighter. It also feels a little thicker as well.I don't see a reduction in theFrizz department.

Hi, thank you for this video. I actually went to sephora today and bought this along with briogeo moisture and damage leave-in treatment, briogeo farewell frizz cream and shampoo/conditioner. I'm having really frizzy hair, which i didnt have 6 months ago, and i dont know how to fix it. I dont really blowout my hair so not sure if the farewell cream will work for me b/c it states to use for blow dry, but do you know if this k18 oil or brogeo leave in treatment will work? or is there one you recommend that is better? would really appreciate your help!

Abbey, what are your thoughts on the k18 PRO MIST? It's supposed to protect hair from lightening treatments - ie bleach - and is only available as an in-salon professional service.
@empressah888

World of Craig talks about it in depth. It definitely really lifts the hair scales to work, so just for a lightening when you’re doing that anyway. Otherwise the mask is the best for hair health. He also talks about the two shampoos, daily and detox, and is generally a fab hairdresser and expert:)

I'm a little surprised that you don't mention the difference between the hair oils with silicones, which are more serums than oils, and hair oils without silicones. Maybe that's why your hair don't feel so soft with the K18 than with other oils.
