Hi Abbey, I was wondering if you could do a video on the new Garnier Fructis Hair Filler Inner Fiber Bond repair pre treatment that comes with the shampoo and conditioner in a set that just came out. It looks like they are trying to dupe the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate and the L’Oréal Everpure Bonding Treatment. I was just curious what you thought of it. Thank you.

Hi Abbey! Thank you so much for this in-depth guide to hair oiling! I began following your hair care advice when I started PRP for androgenic alopecia in early 2022. Then I incorporated the OGX Miracle Oil last autumn when I started getting my hair lightened! OMG, between the OGX Oil and K18, my crispy ends felt so much better! Earlier this year, I began seeing a new stylist, and she used the K18 Molecular Repair Mist before my lightening services. And it is so impressive because my hair feels healthier post-treatment! Many years ago, in cosmetology school, I attended Olaplex training, and I remember how my hair and clients' hair felt less damaged after chemical services. Still, compared to how K18 makes my hair feel, there is no comparison! Thank you for all of the hard work you put into your content! Cheers! ❤

The coconut oil hack is amazing. Guys, it WORKS. After 6 months of doing the pre shower treatment I can say I have seen way less breakage (which is didn’t know I have until my hair started feeling thicker lol), I used to trim my hair every 1-2 weeks (crazy I know) because the split ends drove me crazy because of my OCD LOL. Now I don’t have the need to trim my hair that often because the splits ends don’t come back until 2-3 months later (bleach and heat damage, can’t help it). I never invested in hair care because I always knew that hair is dead and can’t be repaired (fact) so that’s why I trimmed my hair soooo often FYI I have been using the Elvive coconut oil, which is cheap AF where I live compared to the OGX ones. I just ordered the Palmer’s one because it’s comes in the spray presentation so I am excited. Whenever I run out of any I just use plain coconut oil but I don’t like it as much. Also please note that my hair grows really fast, and it took me only 4 months to see the benefits of coconut oil, if your hair grows slower you may need even more time to see results. Patience is key

I feel like when people say coconut oil will “build up” they’re talking about the solid 100% version in a jar that’s really hard to wash out of your hair. I love the OGX oil as well as a Palmer’s hair oil I found at Target that contains coconut oil, plus several other great oils.

Thanks for teaching me more about keeping my hair healthy. I took your advice on that specific brand of coconut oil and it made a huge difference in my hair after washing it out. Usually my hair is dry and rough and hard to brush after washing no matter what I use. but using the coconut oil prewash worked and my hair was softer and tangle free. I started loosing hair like crazy a few months ago after hitting menopause so I’m being more careful and gentle with my hair and following your advice.

I just made a comment on one of your very recent shorts the other day about how pre wash oiling changed my hair 100% from massive breakage that was filling the drain to silky awesomenss that looks like I never had a bit of damage. Glad you are doing a video on this simple step that frankly is nothing short of a miracle. I used to oil my hair with coconut oil ages ago and my hair was amazing then. I got really sick at some point and stopped. Now I realized thanks to your videos that it really was the likely key to why my hair was amazing. And back then I colored it. but there was zero damage. Prewash oiling is really the key I think. That and solid conditioning.
@salapec3880
@salapec3880 6 ай бұрын
Thanks! What is solid conditioning?
@adrienneg4231
@adrienneg4231 6 ай бұрын
@@salapec3880 Just my way of saying that conditioner needs to be a priority. So the oiling is one part of that. The other would be using masks or really good conditioners. I found that masks are key for me. The other thing I did was use tresseme moisture rich conditioner or loreal ever pure conditioner after oiling it but just before I was going into the shower. It's a copious amount of conditioning, but it changed my hair in less than two months from crazy dry with vast amounts of breakage (seeing a lot of it in the drain every time I washed my hair) to next to nothing in the drain. My routine is wash twice a week. Pre wash oil both times. I use a blend of oils like avocado, grapeseed, fractionated coconut oil ect (had them on hand so used them instead of OGX, but OGX sounds like it works well). Then I use a hair dryer cap that I got off amazon to warm the oils which helps them absorb into my hair very well. It attaches to the dryer and I keep the dryer on the warm NOT hot setting and low air NOT high blowing air. This seems to helf the oil absorb as it's less oily when i take the cap off. Then I put in tresseme or loreal conditioner. Rinse it out, then shampoo. Then condition with a mask (though once every two or three weeks I do use loreal bond repair trie set). Then I squeeze the water out of my hair carefully in the shower and then with a towel very gently until it doesn't feel wet. Wet brush it, then gently squeeze out more water from it. Apply leave in conditoner. Finally, I use an ionic dryer on high to dry it. Takes maybe ten minutes. The dryer doesn't give off hot air. It's warm, similar to the heating cap but actually cooler. I really am astonished at how quickly this changed my hair to a nice healthy silky feel with next to no breakage. It even seems to have given some elasticity back to it. Since the only real change I made was to add in copious amounts of conditioning, I'm sure that is why it changed and probably so fast. So yeah, that's a solid amount of conditioning. :D

I love using coconut oil by itself between washes on my ends, and it seems to work better for me in the summer (maybe because it actually melts on my hands then lol). I mixed myself up a little vial of oil that's 1/3 olive, 1/3 sweet almond, and 1/3 sunflower, since those are oils I had on hand from making herbal salve and sink into the skin really nicely. I added rosemary and tea tree EO too. I have a really oily scalp prone to sebhorreic dermatitis, so I was reluctant to try oiling my scalp, but I heard that neem oil is really good for that, so I try to put it on as a treatment before washing for about 2 hours max and that has radically changed the quality of my hair and scalp! It's not nearly as itchy and irritated. Neem does smell pretty godawful on its own, so I dilute it with olive oil and add tea tree and rosemary too. I have the ogx extra penetrating argan oil which I like for my ends, haven't been able to find the ogx coconut miracle oil in person (maybe because you've made it so popular!)

My nose can’t handle the scent of the oil you use. Do you know if fractionated coconut oil would work similarly? My scalp is very dry and sensitive. I apply jojoba oil to it before washing, and it helps immensely. I use jojoba because it’s supposed to be sebum-like, which matches with my experience of it. My hair is so fine (like cobweb filament due to aging) that coconut oil weighs it down too much after washing. I use argan oil after washing and throughout the week. It’s light enough that it doesn’t weigh my hair down but rich enough to promote healthy hair.

Dear Abbey - Great video! Super helpful deep dive into hair oiling. I would love a deep dive in how you use your bond repair products. Due to your recommendations I have purchased K-18, Redken acidic bonding concentrate, Living Proof triple bond complex and dp Hue Gloss +. The directions for some of these K-18 and Redken are different than how you use them (or my understand of how you use them.) I would love a deep dive into your bonding treatment routine. Thanks for all your great content! -Daniela

Thank you for the detailed video, such educational info. It’s probably just me, but I got a little confused and need further clarification. I know Eric said it was okay and beneficial to use Epres with K18. I heard you say it’s not recommended to oil on the days you use K18, because they don’t want us to use a pre wash treatment. So are you using only Epres on the days you use K18 and skipping the oil that day? Or the days you use K18 you skip Epres and oiling altogether, since both are prewash treatments? And you just meant that it’s okay to be using other products while you’re doing the K18 treatment in general, not necessarily on the same day? Sorry if I missed this, or I’m making it more complicated. Just want to do it correctly. 🤗

Thank you so much! You are helping me save my hair, and prewash oiling is the key i believe. Last year, i made the HUGE mistake of bleaching my gorgeous long curls and having layers cut ...i did it slowly thinking it would be more healthy, but no one warned me that bleach kills curls regardless. WELL fast forward to now, i dyed my hair back brunette because my hair has so much breakage and is coarse and dry. Nothing has helped. I have so much damage that i am past K18 working. But i have started oiling 24hrs before i wash. I not only use the oil you recommend but i also apply OGX Coconut Split end mender, then throughout the day i apply the OGX hydrating Coconut oil mist. My hair is so dry that it just sucks it up. This process makes my hair, after washing, silky and look healthy...which at this point i know its not...yet. You ma'am, have helped me so much. My confidence has been shattered bc my hair has been suffering, and your advice has been a saving grace for me. Thank you so much❤

Hey Abbey! I think I know why people were asking about hair shed with oiling their hair. I have the same problem when I oil my entire scalp. I used to oil my scalp and I would find that I had massive shedding when brushing after putting oil on my scalp. Now that I don't put oil on my scalp, I don't have this problem anymore.

I did an apple cider vinegar rinse to my scalp two washes ago! It was incredible! I’ve never felt like I’ve had such a clean scalp and the way my hair shone and bounced at the roots when blow drying was amazing! Even now, my shampoo suds so much better. I’m gonna build this into my wash routine every 3/4 weeks as I have a very oily scalp and hard water. My hair is also damaged from colour and heat so I’ve just bought the Ogx miracle oil... it’s lovely on my dry ends. Can’t wait to see how the health of my hair improves.

@d26s10
@d26s10 6 ай бұрын
@@03Marisab in between. I did one shampoo to get the majority of the oil out and rinsed. Then I applied the apple cider vinegar. Make sure you dilute it, I did two teaspoons with 300ml of water. Poured it on in sections to get my whole scalp. Be careful around your face as you don’t want vinegar in your eyes, even diluted vinegar will sting. Let it sit for a couple of minutes then massages it for another couple of minutes. Rinsed it out. Did another shampoo and rinse.. wait til you see how much your shampoo suds this time around on a truly clarified scalp.. it’s insane! Rinse well, you don’t want any ACV left on your hair as it’ll dry it out. Then conditioned the ends and rinsed and that’s it!

Thank you for the helpful video. You mentioned that you sprayed Epres on your hair til damp, applied oil, waited 30+ minutes, and shampooed. You said that you didn’t oil if you were going to do a k-18 treatment, because the k-18 would not be able to properly penetrate oil-treated hair. You also said that you were told that the Epres treatment would compliment the K-18 treatment. Does this mean that you can use the Epres pre-shampoo, shampoo, and then apply the k-18, or or does the Epres block the K-18 as the oiling would if used the same day? Do you just use the Epres on days that you oil your hair pre-shampoo (and therefore skipping the K-18)? Thank you!

I can't afford to buy k18 products, but at home I have Olaplex 0 and 3 and use those from time to time. But the real difference I found was using Dove intensive repair shampoo and conditioner (are the mask or the 1minute conditioner good?) and rosemary oil mix in roots and ogx coconut oil on the length of the hair before washing. In two months my hair has really, really transformed. I use a leave in a damp hair and Moroccan oil light version on dry hair. I get compliments from everyone and another product I really like is the new anti-frizz spray by Moroccan oil. Dream routine, all thank to you, girl. ❤ Kisses from Italy

But, then I use Pureology moisture conditioner then Pureology color fanatic leave in, then L’Oreal series expert 10 in 1 before blow drying and flat ironing. I finish it up with Virtue healing oil. Am I defeating the purpose by using cheap shampoo? I seem like it cleans my hair well.

Hi Abbey, thank you for the great videos and your informed advice. I have a question that I hope you could answer for your followers please? If you follow the hair oiling routine using products like the OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Penetrating Oil, can your conditioner (Amika The Kure or similar) still penetrate the hair after all the silicones have been distributed? Even after washing the OGX out properly, it seems like the whole idea of using silicones and oils is to coat the hair shaft. I'm also a bit confused about how the oils in OGX, for example, can penetrate the hair in the presence of the silicones listed first on the ingredient list. I understand why you wouldn't use the hair oiling routine before using the K-18 bond repair because you need it to penetrate the hair so what might be the difference between that and a conditioner filled with great ingredients? I apologize if you have addressed this in another video (I've watched so many now but certainly not all of them). Appreciate your thoughts on this! Dana

Hey Abbey! I hope you see this follow-up question. What about using protein treatments? Given what you said about coconut oil penetrating the hair, preventing protein loss, and reducing porosity, I’m thinking it would be like K18 - don’t use coconut oil pretreatment on days when I do a protein treatment. Do you have any advice for this? (Also, in particular using the OGX product because it also has silicones…which are great but I’m confused about how to manage silicones in conjunction with protein treatments).
