New KTM 890 Adventure tested on an Epic 3000 km Road Trip

I took the new KTM 890 Adventure, while still under embargo, and rode in all secrecy from Austria to Portugal, to attend the bike launch.
I had only 7 days to ride 3000 km across Europe and make it through some harsh winter conditions.
I got the chance to try the motorcycle on all terrains and in all weather conditions.
Great bike as always, similar to the 2020 model, but with much-improved aerodynamics and electronics.
Definitely the most Off-road capable travel bike out there!

you deserve a compliment for that video. riding a motorcycle in the rain can be fun, but this was a challenge. I may do a testride on this machine. hope it is roomy for my 1.93. cheers

Yes. It is much better for its predecessor as it can be quite taxing if you are too tall. I didn’t struggle at all and wind protection was great. The new windshield is a must try. And so the new seat. Highly recommend the rally pegs if also you have size 13 foot like myself

I love my new 2022 890 Adventure. I imagine the improvements are welcome, especially for you taller riders. @ 5'8" with a 30.5 inseam the 22-890 S with the seat in the low setting fits me perfectly. I rode 500 miles yesterday from Morro Bay Ca to Eureka Ca on the US-101 and the bike was superb on the freeway and in the SF Bay Area traffic. I was a little curious as to how it would do but took the gamble and traded my 2018 1290 SA-R for the 890. No regrets. Two suggestions, heated electric gear, and Klim Badlands Pro gear, or another comparable laminated waterproof gear. You can ride comfortably in any weather a motorcyclist should be riding in. ;) I used Gerbings for years and just switched to Warm & Safe heated gear, 41 degrees F for parts of my ride yesterday and I was comfortable.

yeah, Electric gear solves the problems. Also Handguard muffs like the Hippohands saved my ride when I went across Canada and USA in winter.

@@PaoloCattaneo I just put some Hippo Hands on the 890 Adventure last night. They should keep the electric gloves a lot more dry in our coastal rains here in the Pacific Northwest. 👍

Thanks a lot mate! Yeah, suspensions are great now. Definitely more than enough for any non extreme offroad rider. Definitely an improvement from the previous model.

Beautiful. I was thinking of buying the ktm 890 Adv, and I-was impressed. Did you encounter any technical/electrical problems ? Could you add some words regarding comfortability of the bike?? Thank you

Not at all. I ve ridden the 890 for over 50000km between the old and the new model. Very reliable! Just a couple of glitches in the software but it was resolved with a firmware upgrade. Nothing major. The comfort in this last one has improved A LOT. Better seat, better aerodynamics. To me it seems also less vibrations. Definitely one of the best bikes out there, especially for the mixed adventure travelling.

Sure, if you stick to the highway and start at 7am and ride till 8pm you can cross it in one day. Under the rain and in 5 degree may be extra challenging but ok. It wasn’t my plan to ride france in one day anyway

Hi, if you were going on a 25,000km ride 50-50 to a remote part of the world and cannot have a broken part -- is this the bike? Has KTM addressed the know issues of the past? I am a BMW rider and have experience with virtually 100% trouble free experience with >100,000km riding in the most remote parts of the world. But BMW's are heavy (F850GSA for example) and saving 100 lbs is so enticing... But I cannot break down in a remote part of the world and blogs are full of KTM horror stories... Can you help comfort me that these past issues have been addressed?

Hello. Yes of course the KTM engineers work really hard in addressing all the issues. This model has improved a lot compared to the previous model, in both aerodynamics and electronics. Engine is the same but was already strongly built since the advent of the LC8C

I've owned dozens of bikes and had four big KTMs. My 1190adv hasn't missed a beat in 7 years and it's been thrashed across Europe in all weather. I think the 'known issues' reputation is blown out of proportion and I'm definitely going to buy an 890adv next.

No vibrations at all on the motorway...? What about fuel consumption...?

Nope. Little or no vibrations on the handlebar or pegs. Fuel consumptions are proportional to riding style. But on a highway at 105-110 kmh fuel consumptions are around 23-24km/l

You should take off the music. Doesn't make sense to be in a quite hotel room and listenning to that sound. Also it would be easier to listen to you.

Concordo Paolo, è più interessante ascoltare con calma quello che riporti senza interferenze… anzi ascoltare i suoni/rumori naturali oppure qualche secondo di silenzio è più interessante. Gran bel mezzo questa 890! Bella prova! 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼😊
