Great to see Denae make an appearance. Laowa puts out such interesting glass. I'm seriously considering their 65mm, 2x macro no tubes. Or there crazy 15mm shift macro.

For me the Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 is still the king when it comes to actual pictures. The Laowa seems to be sharper in the corners shooting a test chart, but the Mitakon has this amazing 3D rendering that no other lens I have can match. The focus ring on the Mitakon is perfect. I can nail focus manually like no other lens. Stop down the Mitakon to f/4-f/8 and it's my sharpest lens corner to corner. I have even done the unthinkable and stopped it down to f/16 where diffraction should be hitting it hard but the resolution is still blistering.

You should review this Lens again but at night i had a buddy pick up one of these lens and OMG the bokeh is absolutely insane at night, it remind me of the helios but smoother. He let me borrow it for a few weeks and there is a gorgeous lens flair you get if you shoot bettween 0.95 and 1.00f stop. its red and just looks amazing at the right angle.

I’ve had this lens since it came out and I love it. But I REALLY wish it had weather sealing. I’m considering switching to the Fuji 33mm just because this lens lacks weather sealing. Edit 2 month later: could not give up on this lens, it’s too good. Motivation to shoot in the rain is usually pretty low anyways. :P

Great vid, thanks for that breakdown. Seems like an abundance of f.95 lenses in recent years, more specifically in the 35mm (50mm equivalent) focal range. Not to mention Fuji's f1 in the 50mm (75mm equivalent) lens. Putting out there a video idea of breaking down the f95 market, with the addition of Fuji's 50mm f1. Kind of a Mitakon, SLR Magic, TT Artisan, 7 Artisan f95 battle? Also tossing out that Voightlander 35mm f1.2 V II as an addition? And any f95 lenses I may have missed. Might peek the interests of a lot of folks here.

Off Topic: I bought my first camera around Christmas. I ended up with an XT-10 and an xf18-55. I would like to extend my lens portfolio by purchasing a prime lens. But I can not decide what focal length to buy. I tend to shoot at 23 or 55mm. Should I get something outside that focal range? Viltrox 85mm? Or get a zoom like the 55-200mm to really extend my range? I have not figured out my use case yet, I do everything with the camera. I sometimes want more reach, but like the beginner I am, I also want the bokeh. I am lost. Please share your 2 cents. I have almost watched all the videos A&D has created soo far, they give me tons of knowledge but also make me more hesitant. Edit: As usual a very pleasant video, In the studio portion Andrew makes it feel like we're just having a quick conversation. Well, a very one-sided conversation. :)

I'm in a similar situation and I recently picked up the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 and have really been enjoying it. It is an all manual lens, but the performance is really impressive for ~$100 lens, A&D have a video on it if you haven't seen it already. Though it's hard to recommend a lens if you don't have a specific use case in mind as every lens will have trade offs in terms of technical specs. One thing I have felt though is the size of the lens is potentially just as important or even more important than the technical specs. If a smaller lens like the XF 27mm f/2.8 means you'd take the camera with you and shoot more maybe that's a good option too.
@arvidjohansson3120
@arvidjohansson3120 3 жыл бұрын
@@joguSD Thanks for sharing your 2c. The TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 has been on my radar but the manual focus is a turn-off for me. Maybe I just have to practice shooting MF and it will become second nature. Do you also have the 18-55 f/2.8-4? Well, the best use case I can define is travel photography. Were I shoot everything interesting I see. Buildings, landscapes, portraits, cars. Personally, I do not find size an issue. Well, the 100-400 is too big and too expensive for me
@joguSD
@joguSD 3 жыл бұрын
@@arvidjohansson3120 No, I got the 16-80mm with my camera which is quite a bit bigger, maybe that's why I was a little more picky about size for primes. You did mention you tend to like 55mm on your lens which has a maximum aperture of f/4 at that focal length. Perhaps getting a prime faster than f/4 around 55mm or longer makes sense? The Viltrox 85mm does seem to check those boxes, it'll give you more range and good bokeh from what I've seen.

Due to the apo, the Laowa is much more composed wide open. You'll get a lot more fuzziness and CA out of the other two. They feel like different league of lenses so I honestly forgot to even compare them.

The deal with a super "fast" lens is more about what it offered in ze olden days. Your ability to see better. A film camera lens would remain wide open even if you stopped down until the shot was taken. Those days are gone. Now you are your wide open viewfinder. So, wide open, I can't think of anything except dust on a window that I would shoot that way. Most narrow depth of field shots we still would like about 3/4 of an inch. I'm getting near the end of this, and I haven't seen a pic of the side of the lens yet. Go have fun shooting some Barry Lyndon video with it, though.
